Why the hell are GMB gaslighting women with this stuff?

https://twitter.com/GMB/status/1749329378352275568

This is an enormous male-bodied person - even larger than the interviewing man!

Why?

Because the likes of @FerryTale - who BTW doesn’t represent the majority of thinkers they’re just lucky enough to still be up and catch a trans thread late at night - want to silence us women who do not tolerate this BS.

This man admits he has an advantage then doesn’t understand why people are posed off about that. Fucking disgraceful

Trans women in women's sport is something I disagree with. Trans women in women's refuges (unless in a seperate part, of course they should have refuge) also. I have a trans family member (F to M). I believe in live and let live, I'm a feminist and I'm not threatened by trans women. This thread is just gonna be uber Terfy no doubt like Gwen Stefani.

I’m pleased you’re not threatened by trans women.
Unfortunately lots of women have been the victim of abuse and violence by men and are threatened by men. Especially when ‘I’m trans’ is an excuse that gains access to women and women’s spaces.

KarenNotAKaren · 23/01/2024 01:27

@HermioneKipper I think you set off a TRA klaxon 😂

Let me break it down before I turn in for the night:

People cannot change sex.

Gender is a regressive and sexist social construct that damages women in particular - it’s a synonym for “personality based on sexist stereotypes” and is perpetuated by people who lack substance or character.

This man is a cheat, he’s taking away from actual women, and anybody OK with his actions or is happy to pander to his delusion, is a misogynist.

That is not what she says. I don’t know enough about the science to know whether I agree with her or not, but at least engage with what she’s actually saying (that pre-surgery and years of hormone treatment, she would have had an advantage):

”My whole philosophy behind all of this is I don’t believe trans people should be banned from sports, but I do believe there needs to be guidelines in effect," Davidson said. "Going back even four years ago or even before I had surgery, I definitely had an advantage. I would 100% agree with that.

"But the difference is now that years have gone on, three years after surgery, my physical capabilities now compared to back then are night and day. So again, honestly, I 100% agree that men do have advantages. Say you get a trans person on hormones for a year or no surgery nothing… of course, for the most part, yeah they’re gonna have an advantage."

There's just something about the OP's delivery - all jumping up and down, pointing and shouting "GASLIGHTING!" over and over - that tells me this thread isn't really going to be solving the issues it raises.

I don't personally feel gaslit by this. I see it clearly as the modern nonsense it is.

I have concerns around trans women in women’s sport but this thread is just dripping with hate. I hope it’s deleted.

This golfer will encourage other poor performers in the male circuit to come on over.

This golfer will win all round h**.

This golfer will set records that no woman will ever break.

The hate is not coming from women who object to this.

It is coming from those who are helping themselves to things that do not belong to them.

I said it once in the OP!

And clarified it later when some other poster said it wasn’t gaslighting. (When it is)

The upper body strength advantage of a man with a lifetime of testosterone will not magically disappear because he's taken testosterone. He will always have that advantage.

'Don't know the science'

Sick of absolute idiots pretending we suddenly don't know enough 'science' about the differences in male and female bodies because men now claim to be women, and sick of the idiots who allow these men's fantasy feelings to be put over fairness and safety of women.

The man is a fucking cheat just like every other man who takes women's spaces, medals, prize money etc.

So is the hate coming from the women golfers who voted to amend the LPGA constitution to allow transwomen to compete?

Quite possibly, now that they're reaping what they've (naively, kindly, and behaving in exactly the way females are socialised to behave) sown.
If, by "hateful", you mean "bloody pissed off that women aren't allowed nice things all to themselves, ever."

As if they had a choice?! Anyone who speaks up for women’s rights risks being called names at best and risks being in fear of their life at worse.

BobbyBiscuits · 23/01/2024 02:19

@Morwenscapacioussleeves Crikey does it? I thought that was a pretty mainstream opinion as it's obviously unfair in sport. I guess I am that then.
Haha. I like to think I'm tolerant (unless PMsing).
I've never actually ever met a trans woman. I wonder how many on here have?

BobbyBiscuits · 23/01/2024 02:22

@Chichimcgee As I said I am fully against trans women in female sport. I've never even met a trans woman before. I've also sadly been brutally abused by men, not while they were dressed as a woman though. I certainly don't mean any disrespect to you or any other posters.

TheSlantedOwl · 23/01/2024 02:23

This thread isn’t ’dripping with hate’ - it’s full of justifiable anger.

The stupidity and entitlement which led this man to cheat deserves anger.

I’ve met a couple of trans men and a couple of women.
The female to male people I’ve met have been nice, you wouldn’t know they were trans, they just act like decent people and live their life.
The male to female people I’ve met have been awful, very much a caricature of what a man thinks a woman is. Immediately aggressive ‘I’m trans if you have a problem with that we’re going to have an issue’ very intense and uncomfortable to be honest.
that’s just my experience and a total of about 5 people isn’t much to go off but it was definitely a stark difference in behaviours.

thinslicedham · 23/01/2024 02:50

This person acknowledges that someone born male will generally have a physical advantage over someone born female, yet still pretends (?) not to understand why there would be objections and backlash to a male competing against a female...

Maybe you can just live your life without formally competing against others, like most people do. These people know it's unfair; they just don't give a shit about fairness. It's more important for them to win or at least force everyone to pretend that they're special, stunning, and brave.

BobbyBiscuits · 23/01/2024 02:54

@Chichimcgee Thanks for sharing that. Yeah, I'm not surprised you feel a bit anti if the trans women you met were like that. I'd find that pretty (very) uncomfortable.. it sounds like attention seeking big time. I used to know some really camp men like that but just gay, not trans or even cross dressing.
My f to m trans family member is lovely (maybe I'm biased) but I do worry for them as 'choosing' to be a man is a whole massive can of worms. They take testosterone, I just hope they don't regret they had their boobs chopped off (parents paid for surgery). This person is over 21, and they do seem a lot happier since they transitioned. So I do have mixed feelings about the whole thing.

On first glance your point seems like a good one - the women themsleves agreed to it.

However, we know from the swimming and athletics debacle in the States that the agreement from the women was coersion, they were threatened with loss of scholarship and much more besides.

Furthermore, most decent men would not pull a stunt like this. This says an awfull lot about the ones who do.

mamboshirt · 23/01/2024 03:07

He is huge . Yes. What is the point of a female sports category? If you can answer that question then you know this is all kinds of wrong.

Gowlett · 23/01/2024 03:13

Trans notwithstanding… Work away, it’s your body.
But when it comes to sport (etc) we’re just talking about physical advantage. It’s not fair. It’s dangerous. It’s needless.

Back when I was footloose and fancy free I hung out in what I would have called alternative circles (I guess nowadays they'd be called queer?). I knew several trans women. I remember joking with a friend about how all the males in our group were waxed smooth as dolphins, and all the females (myself included) were hairy as yetis. It would never have occurred to me to think of trans women as female people who belonged in women's sports, or any women's groups, really.

yesmen · 23/01/2024 03:14

Overcooker · 23/01/2024 01:17

Mumsnet’s guidelines re misgendering:

“That said, it’s clear that most trans people find the use of pronouns or names that they or others have consciously rejected, to be hurtful and would therefore struggle to engage in a discussion with those who insist on using them. The same is true of the expression ‘Trans-Identified Male’ or ‘TIM’. Likewise, many feminists are affronted by the term ‘cis’ and ‘terf’, so using these terms will make civil debate less likely. As we’ve said, context is everything – but our moderation team will most likely delete these expressions if we feel they're being used in a deliberately inflammatory way.”

I assume this thread is only still up because fewer mods are around overnight.

#nodebate?

Funny how people can be sticklers for rules when the argument is hard to win.

But sticklers for breaking rules when it comes to redefining women as a class; redefining breast feeding, pregnancy, menstruation, and most accepted terms that describe parts and functions of the female body; redefine womens sports, single sex spaces and so much more.

Not much redefining of men going on though is there? No rules being broken there. Balls are still balls...

Flufferblub · 23/01/2024 03:24

It's just crap. I've heard of trans women winning bike tournaments, swimming, weight lifting and now golf. It's so discouraging for female athletes. Are there trans women in boxing now? Punching the living daylights out of women and then being handed a trophy?

If you're born male, it's baked through every cell. You can change a few things about your appearance on the outside, and you can change your clothes and name to look a bit more female. But you still have the muscle mass, lung capacity and hand strength of a male. It's just a fact. It's just the truth.

If someone digs up human remains in 100s of years, and they test the DNA to see if that person was male or female, it will show up in the DNA. It will never matter what that person might have identified as.

Trans women should just compete against other trans women really.

Do you get trans men competing in men's sports? I don't know really, I haven't heard about that one.
