Why the hell are GMB gaslighting women with this stuff?

https://twitter.com/GMB/status/1749329378352275568

This is an enormous male-bodied person - even larger than the interviewing man!

Again, I don’t disagree with you. It’s my opinion that you can fight for women without being deliberately disrespectful. I just don’t feel that one has to copy the behaviour of someone we disagree with in order to ‘win’ the fight.

Men who use female spaces are the ones being 'disrespectful'.

Because we all have a choice about our behaviour. In the words of Michelle Obama.

“When someone is cruel or acts like a bully, you don't stoop to their level. No, our motto is: 'When they go low, we go high'.”

You are deliberately turning this into something it isn't. This male born player should not have taken part in a woman's only golf tournament. It is unfair. Simple as that.

Everyone does know this is going on.

Actually no they don't.

Brefugee · 23/01/2024 08:38

sorry, i worded that wrong. I didn't mean that you personally might think that. But i think that it needs to be known more widely. Because a lot of people (despite all the legging and bodycon dress photos that appear in the papers and online) a lot of people simply assume that if someone says they are a trans woman, they have had surgery. (and have a GRC but that is a whole other kettle of fish)

I firmly believe we should all strive to live our best lives. I refuse to believe that anyone who is shitting on women's sport like this sincerely wishes that. They wish THEMSELF to be living their best live, and sod the rest. I would like a show of good faith from trans women (who i have defended vehemently in the past, and will continue to do so under a lot of circumstances) that they are women, understand our struggle to win our own rights and spaces, and to campaign for their own. Then i will believe they are sincere about being a woman.

This golfer is basically saying "yeah, i prob do have an advantage, lolz, but that's not stopping me look at all my luvly money"

Yes, last I saw only 20% had ‘bottom surgery’. 80% didn’t - and who can blame them, it’s very dangerous and requires lifelong care.

TheKeatingFive · 23/01/2024 08:56

without being deliberately disrespectful

Theres nothing respectful about lying. Thats where we disagree

It’s possible to strongly disagree with what a person is doing without hating and denigrating the person. You say he’s doing something cruel and wrong - I don’t necessarily disagree - but I think the issue is that we need clear, consistent and fair guidelines and proper categories to accommodate trans women in sport. Many people are weak when presented with an opportunity to succeed. It doesn’t mean he’s evil or cruel or criminal (which would change my feelings on the matter significantly), just taking advantage of an unfair situation.

but I think the issue is that we need clear, consistent and fair guidelines and proper categories to accommodate trans women in sport.

We already have a category for transwomen. It's the mens catergory.

I'm not sure why he's worried about his safety either...he's massive (and a big cheat).

mamboshirt · 23/01/2024 08:58

Ooops! Was that my comment "Yes he is huge", that is transphobic. It's not . It's the truth. Why on earth are women so feebly letting themselves be walked over by men that ( I promise you) do not give a shit about you? Do you really think William ( Lia) Thomas cares one bit about you, or this Hailey man or whoever. They really don't. So stop caring about them. They are big boys who can look after themselves. Gah!!! Drives me mad.

Zodfa · 23/01/2024 08:59

In this case one suspects "fears for safety" may have as much basis in material reality as "feelings of womanhood".

Of course they aren’t. I was talking about wider issues such as being forced to use men’s tollets and changing areas. Women shouldn’t be made to feel unsafe by allowing trans women in, but separate spaces should be created so that trans women can have the same security.

I have already said many times that I don’t believe that trans women should be in women’s sports as it’s unfair.

There is no reason why transwomen can't use the mens toilets and changing rooms. Women feel unsafe letting transwomen in because transwomen are men.

Saying "I am a woman" does not stop them being men.

We don't let men in those spaces, so why should we let a special group of men in those spaces?

I the absence of other evidence I tend to read it as 'I've received a lot of criticism and I don't like it'.

Panama2 · 23/01/2024 09:02

Have you noticed that when women stick up for themselves it is ok to call them names and offer threats. There seems a casual acceptance that women can be put down and silenced.

Once again calling a man a man is not hate. It's the truth. An important truth in this situation.

What I'm taking from your posts is a need to be seen as a good, kind person who always does the 'right' thing. A man like this would just see an opportunity to use that against you and treat you like a doormat. I can guarantee he would not give even the tiniest fuck about your feelings or the feelings of any other women trying very hard to be kind.

This is part of why we are in this mess.

I wholeheartedly disagree. I couldn’t really care less if you or anyone thinks that I’m doing the right thing. I, however do need to know that. I’m not treated like a doormat and as evidenced on this thread I do speak my mind. I’m far from perfect - I do have a temper at times and don’t always practice what I preach. But I choose to try and do right by people. And if someone wants me to call them she or they or whatever, that in itself doesn’t hurt me so I choose to do it. If you choose not to that’s your prerogative.

Yeah they're laughing all the way to the bank, their prizes, awards, scholarship money, fame, their erections. They're definitely not concerned about women. They'll capitalise on women's empathy though.

I didn’t say women should let trans women in. I specifically said that trans women should have their own spaces but you missed that bit of the quote. It is well documented that trans women are also not safe around men and I don’t want anyone to feel unsafe.

Lots of women started where you are - tiptoeing around accurately labelling all the male sex offenders claiming to be women, nervously smiling as children in schools were deluged by groups and adults telling them their pubertal bodies were wrong and can be "fixed" with drugs and surgery.
Now we have a society where teenagers in their thousands demand these drugs and surgery to fix their flawed bodies because all the adults (especially those in schools) were too kind and didn't tell these people to get lost.
Where women in sport were threatened and bullied into silence by governing bodies into accepting men performing as women in our sports and have lost medals, team places and funding to these men.
We have court case after court case where women have been suspended from their jobs for speaking out - all being won because those insisting on people lying and "being kind" are outed as incoherent bullies who lie in court.

Being kind means being subservient. No more.

See this I don’t understand. I completely get the not wanting trans women competing against women and it is unfair. They have a competitive advantage. I can’t for the life of me understand why you would be opposed to trans women having their own category. It doesn’t hurt you, and means they can still compete and have a fair crack.

No. It's like hiding replies.

Speaking of which, here are all the ones GMB hid when promoting their puff piece, erasing women and telling girls not to bother trying as mediocre men will say some magic words and steal their dreams.

So true, I honestly cannot understand how we have become a nation who allows a male born golfer to win this tournament..what are the organisers thinking?! What is the point of a woman's only category..it doesn't affect men, because a trans man entering their sport, however unlikely that is, would have no negative impact on them.

Until this issue affects men, we will continue to be treated appalling by the governing bodies.

ArabellaScott · 23/01/2024 09:09

I'm a bit confused by Hailey admitting Hailey has an advantage, but not understanding why women are angry that Hailey is playing in their tournaments.

lola8345 · 23/01/2024 09:09

Time and time again, it's the same argument. He is a man, dressed as a women, hormones and Breast surgery will never change his biological advantage.
Trans people need their own category. Stealing from women should be a crime, and they are stealing, fame, sponsorship, prize money.

Only as 'unsafe' as any other male.

In fact in terms of populations, they are the safest demographic in the UK.

TheKeatingFive · 23/01/2024 09:10

So we have men, feeling unsafe in men's spaces, because of the behaviour of other men.

Why are women being involved at all. We are not men's shields.
