Why the hell are GMB gaslighting women with this stuff?

https://twitter.com/GMB/status/1749329378352275568

This is an enormous male-bodied person - even larger than the interviewing man!

This thread is disgusting, and as @Overcooker said, dripping with hate. It’s clear, as usual, that many of you have never met a trans woman and don’t know what you’re talking about.

please point out the hate so we can report it. Thanks.

The upper body strength advantage of a man with a lifetime of testosterone will not magically disappear because he's taken testosterone. He will always have that advantage.

'Don't know the science'

Sick of absolute idiots pretending we suddenly don't know enough 'science' about the differences in male and female bodies because men now claim to be women, and sick of the idiots who allow these men's fantasy feelings to be put over fairness and safety of women.

The man is a fucking cheat just like every other man who takes women's spaces, medals, prize money etc.

Well said!

Valeriekat · 24/01/2024 08:33

Brefugee · 23/01/2024 08:42

(as an aside: I'm not terfy because i don't want trans women in women's sports. If they're not having testosterone, I'm happy for trans men to be in women's sports, and generally in women's spaces. I am therefore trans inclusive)

Trans men ARE in women's sport I think you'll find.

Universalsnail · 24/01/2024 09:20

Trans women arguably have some advantage in some sports and not others. It's quite complicated, is very sport dependent and also extent of transition treatment dependent for some sports.

I have no idea if golf is one of those sports.

But it doesn't matter because this person is legally considered a she and was legally allowed to play golf in the womens category. If people have an issue with this they need to take it up with the people who set the regulations about golf, not send this individual death threats for being trans and having the audacity for playing a sport they love in the category they are allowed to compete in. Petition to have the regulations of who is allowed to compete changed if you wish but attaching the individual isn't ok.

It's quite complicated

It really isn’t.

is very sport dependent

A tiny number of sports don’t have a sex difference. Tiny. Horse riding for example.

I have no idea if golf is one of those sports.

It 100% is. No question.

If people have an issue with this they need to take it up with the people who set the regulations about golf, not send this individual death threats for being trans

No one here has sent death threats. Many people have taken it up with the regulators. They’ve been ignored. Everyone doubts if this person has been sent death threats or just doesn’t like being told “no”.

having the audacity for playing a sport they love in the category they are allowed to compete in

There is nothing to stop this person competing in the appropriate sex category. Only someone who wants to take advantage would not do so. Or someone seeking validation.

to be fair, equestrian events aren't categorised (in general, afaik) by sex of the rider.

Interestingly, i think horse races are sometimes categorised by age and sex of the horse?

It has repeatedly been explained that they do, and why. Haven’t you bothered reading the thread before you waded in?

The golf authorities being stupid over this issue doesn't absolve this male of blame and it doesn't make it wrong to criticise the ethics of males cheating women. As pp said, I highly doubt women on MN are sending death threats. There is no proof of them that I've seen, unlike the very visible ones prominent GC people get.

Yes. Of course golf is one of those sports. Longer arms, height and so many other advantages exist.

Isn't it infantilising the male golfer to say that they are not responsible for their own decision to compete in an event where they have this advantage. Perhaps they have ignored the articles that have been plastered across the media. Perhaps they have chosen to listen only to the voices telling them that this is their right as a trans person, to compete as a 'female'.

No one should be sending death threats. For any reason. However, being a victim of that doesn't support their inclusion in female sport in any way either.

However, it is emotionally manipulative to then say 'having the audacity for playing a sport they love.' This male golfer can play golf still. They can play as a male with other males. They can also take responsbility for their decisions. They chose to take advantage of the regulations that harm women. Their choice.

HermioneKipper · 24/01/2024 12:10

I can’t understand why people are trying to pretend there’s no differences between men and women.

We all know that men are bigger and stronger than women, faster and can hit further/faster.

The bloke in question is extremely tall, broad and clearly hugely powerful. A few years of taking cross sex hormones doesn’t reduce his lung capacity or size does it?!

Are people being wilfully stupid and disingenuous on purpose? They can’t actually believe this nonsense can they??

On the contrary. Many of the posters on this thread are very knowledgable. Why is it relevant that someone has to have 'met' a male with a trans identity to have knowledge about the advantages that male people have? The advantages that are not reduced with testosterone suppression.

I think it is you who appear to not know what you are talking about.

There’s a 50yr old male born competing in the girls over 13s race. I mean he’s over 13 but doesn’t meet the category in any other way.

It’s legal because it’s in Canada.

‘Legal’ doesn’t mean ‘right’. Particularly as he’s changing with the girls and doesn’t like their parents using towels to shield them.

A pervert is still a pervert, even when they haven’t broken the law.

When someone wins by finding a loophole in the regs, the regs are rewritten to prevent it happening again. It is still cheating the first time though.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 24/01/2024 12:48

It's quite complicated

This old chestnut again.

There is fuck all complicated about it. Or any situation that involves men who claim to have a 'gender identity' demanding access to anything meant for women.

Doesn't matter if they've taken estrogen or what they wear. They are not a type of woman and they are certainly not female.

The very reason they have been allowed to compete in women's sports is because they are men. They demanded full access and were handed it without question, mostly by other men.

Actual women's feelings, safety or fairness were never even considered.
It's almost like they know exactly what a woman is after all. Funny that.

lola8345 · 24/01/2024 15:28

If my 13 year old daughter had been a changing room with that 50 year old, they would have needed to shoot me. like hell is that acceptable.

The fire alarm would have been activated in the first instance then yes everyone would have heard my views on the wrongs of 'them" competing in a girls category and changing with them.

bawbells · 24/01/2024 15:31

He's not a trans woman is he. A man cannot turn into a woman. A woman cannot turn into a man.

He's not a trans woman is he. A man cannot turn into a woman. A woman cannot turn into a man.

He is a transwoman. In the same way a seahorse is not a type of horse, a transwoman is not a type of woman.

In fact, the only thing every transwoman has in common with every other transwoman is that they are all a type of man.

Delphinium20 · 24/01/2024 16:38

I don't think anyone who is a competent adult believes this. Yes, some kids are confused, some people with mental health delusions may believe it, yes, some vulnerable adults with neurodivergence may possibly believe it (or are simply confused by the definitions of words), but no one truly believes that TWAW. When they say TWAW they are saying that they want to pretend that TWAW in order to allow TW to do what they want regarding women's spaces. It's a bullying tactic.

However, I don't think it's always bullying. Similar to saying (but not exactly), "I don't see color" when discussing racism. OBVIOUSLY, people can see the differences between a Black person and a white person. Sometimes "I don't see color" has good intentions behind it that really mean, "I don't judge you based on your skin/race." But, pretending not to see race has pitfalls.

Sometimes, when a person says, "Oh, I see so and so as a woman" they are attempting a similar good intention. They want to be kind or nice or non-confrontational or a good person. But, they haven't thought this through re: policies and real life issues. When they say, "I consider this TW a real woman" they don't ever mean it in a literal sense.

“Dripping with hate”?

I don’t think so, it is however full of indignant women who have been patient and forbearing for a long time , have had that thrown back in their faces with death and rape threats a thousand times , and are now standing up for their legal rights and are pushing back against ridiculous, inaccurate statements and ‘ beliefs’ that have no basis in science, reinforce outdated stereotypes about human behaviour, aim to reduce women’s freedoms, safety and dignity , and in this instance and other similar cases , enable cheating in order to steal women’s sporting success, ambitions, sponsorship, records and monetary gains.

Hate no. Anger yes.

Verv · 24/01/2024 17:04

Another mediocre man muscling in on women's sports.
Eventually the penny will drop with the public that there's money to be made from their shiny new "identities" and they'll be viewed as nothing more than second rate grifters.

pickledandpuzzled · 24/01/2024 17:05

Indignant is a good word.

There’s another thread underway where women are getting scolded for pushing back.

It’s not dripping with hate to raise a concern about a situation.

It’s not transphobic to recognise that a 50yr old man shouldn’t be changing and swimming with teenage girls, and that a middle aged trans woman winning a golf tournament has displaced one of the women for who the competition was set up.

Women are cross, indignant and are past couching their opinions in soft appeasing terms.

literalviolence · 25/01/2024 09:09

Personally I hate males in women's sports and I hate that some sections of society support that. I won't be shamed for hating injustice and misogyny. Every single person who says TWAW is dripping hatebl for women.

They got ratioed to hell and back for that post, started hiding replies and eventually turned off replying all together. People aren't playing pretend anymore.

Professor Jo Phoenix has this week won a case againt the Open University, who was hounded from her job for basically saying sex matters and sometimes it's more important than identity. Someone compared her to a 'racist uncle' for that.

But also this week, we've had people who work for a rape crisis centre stand up and say they will not confirm the sex of a worker assigned to a victim. They will only say 'no men work here'. Their CEO is male, no GRC, who took the role in spite of the exemptions applied which meant the role was supposed to be female only.

This is not a big secret btw, women know. But 'no men work here'. Gaslighting rape victims ffs. A witness went as far to say this person was a biological woman 🤯

That 50 year old bloke, swimming and changing with young girls makes me sick. Felt attacked apparently when parents held up towels to protect their daughters, and instead of sending him packing the powers that be banned the parents. He's a pervert and I'll bloody well call him one.

We have a way to go on getting our stuff back.

The CEO of the Edinburgh Rape Crisis centre admitted to doing 4 counselling sessions a week despite having no relevant training or qualifications (his quals are in Hotel Management) and said he did the sessions "to keep it fun". Fun. Rape and Trauma counselling is FUN to him. Still no news of him being sacked though.
