Rude, invasive taxi driver. AIBU to report?

I booked a taxi and to cut a long story short, didn't need it anymore

It turned up at my house. I had cancelled - they send out a taxi which goes a bit like this

'Thank you for booking A&B taxis. Your driver is on the way. Send CANCEL to cancel your booking'

And I sent cancel. To which an automated response of 'you have cancelled your taxi, etc etc' came through

The driver seemed to be sat there for a few minutes and I wasn't prepared. So I hoped he'd get the message (both literal and physical) that I didn't need the taxi. He was waiting some more and then stormed over the the front door! Could see from my doorbell recording app

He banged on the door and I didn't answer. He then shouted 'I know you're in there! I can see you peaking Angry'

I didn't respond and remained silent. He opened my door! And stepped into the house. He then shouted 'TAXI!'

I was terrified and thought about calling the police. I locked the living room door. I heard some foot steps and then the street door slam. I went out and bolted it straight away, having seen him leave via my Ring camera

Do I report this? To the police or just the taxi firm?

Yes report wtf was he thinking!

janeintheframe · 22/01/2024 21:48

Why for gods name didn’t you just go out and say you cancelled it? Why were you peaking from behind the curtains ? Of course he shouldn’t have done what he did. But cmon.

Allofaflutter · 22/01/2024 21:48

To taxi company first then if not taken seriously then the police.

idontlikealdi · 22/01/2024 21:49

Well there's been a disconnect somewhere but you could have just told him you'd cancelled.

Allofaflutter · 22/01/2024 21:50

I mean what if he had got the wrong address? You can’t just go into someone”a house.

TooManyAnimals94 · 22/01/2024 21:51

What he did was inappropriate but why didn't you just answer the door and say you cancelled?

Notimeforaname · 22/01/2024 21:51

You literally just had to tell the man you had cancelled.

GoodVibesHere · 22/01/2024 21:51

Why couldn't you just let him know that you'd cancelled?

bastin · 22/01/2024 21:52

I'll never understand why some people leave their front door unlocked

janeintheframe · 22/01/2024 21:55

He even knocked on th4 door. Why not answer it, had you actually not cancelled it at all? That’s the only reason I can think of you hiding and not answering the door.

Exactly

Of course he was wrong, but why did you kit just tell him you'd cancelled the taxi? If you left your front door unlocked and easily accessible, surely you could have nipped out and told him, instead of obviously being in and ignoring the poor sod

None of those questions or my answers explain him coming into my house though, or shouting at me and saying 'he could see me peaking'

Haydenn · 22/01/2024 22:01

I don’t know why it got to the stage it did, when you saw him waiting outside wouldn’t you let him know?

Of course he got irritated if the cancellation message hadn’t got through and he saw you looking through the window! He probably thought it was a wind up

If he could see me then why would he think a respectable looking woman would be pranking him? He didn't see a teenage boy

Sounds like your both a bit silly here tbh sorry

Itslegitimatesalvage · 22/01/2024 22:04

Why didn’t you go out when he first got there? Just to let him know because obviously the message didn’t get through, and you could have shown your phone confirmation as well. You acted like a child.

I know I should've just popped my head out and said 'sorry, I did cancel'

But I'm quite anxious Blush

Doesn’t matter how irritated he is, he has no right to enter a persons house like that. By all means knock, but the rest is out of order.

But you didn’t look respectable. You looked like a weirdo peaking through your curtains to see the reaction of the taxi you pranked. That’s what he saw.

janeintheframe · 22/01/2024 22:07

But you’re not anxious enough to not get in a taxi so it’s illogical you’re so anxious you can’t tell one uou cancelled. And you didn’t look respectable, he saw you hiding from him and he clearly didn’t know you’d cancelled.

as said, I suspect you hadn’t, I cannot for the life of me explain your behaviour otherwise.

Bex5490 · 22/01/2024 22:08

Maybe OP was scared to go out in case he got angry and clearly she had a point.

I would have gone out and told him by I know people that wouldn’t - like my grandma who’s old and gets freaked out by speaking to strangers in an unplanned situation.

He sounds like a knob. I’d tell the taxi firm ❤️

Ladyj84 · 22/01/2024 22:10

Your the weird one not simply saying I cancelled it and showing him lol. Network problem could have meant text didn't filter thru

You're also quite rude.

He shouldn't have come in though, but I don't blame him for banging on the door.

Sure but so was the op,all he did was step inside and shout taxi, he didn’t actually venture further, yes he shouldn’t have done that but peaking from behind the curtains and hiding is odd behaviour

the man is trying to earn a living, he had a wasted journey, wasted more time waiting for her, when he could have been on another job, spent money on petrol, and was at least due some civility.
