Rude, invasive taxi driver. AIBU to report?

I booked a taxi and to cut a long story short, didn't need it anymore

It turned up at my house. I had cancelled - they send out a taxi which goes a bit like this

'Thank you for booking A&B taxis. Your driver is on the way. Send CANCEL to cancel your booking'

And I sent cancel. To which an automated response of 'you have cancelled your taxi, etc etc' came through

The driver seemed to be sat there for a few minutes and I wasn't prepared. So I hoped he'd get the message (both literal and physical) that I didn't need the taxi. He was waiting some more and then stormed over the the front door! Could see from my doorbell recording app

He banged on the door and I didn't answer. He then shouted 'I know you're in there! I can see you peaking Angry'

I didn't respond and remained silent. He opened my door! And stepped into the house. He then shouted 'TAXI!'

I was terrified and thought about calling the police. I locked the living room door. I heard some foot steps and then the street door slam. I went out and bolted it straight away, having seen him leave via my Ring camera

Do I report this? To the police or just the taxi firm?

Let this be a lesson OP never summon cars, food, or shopping to your house that you don't want to pay for. They tend to take it badly when you fuck them around.

And let's be fair, you weren't anxious, you were avoiding the door to get out of paying a fee for fucking him around.

BubbleBubbleBubbleBubblePop · 22/01/2024 22:42

Not the point of the thread, but why is everyone typing it peaking? It's peeking!

HalloumiGeller · 22/01/2024 22:42

I agree that he shouldn't have come into your house, but I also think you're a wet wipe and didn't use your common sense.

Why did you leave it until the last minute to cancel? You should have cancelled it at least an hour before! Also, all it needed was a simple walk out the door from you to tell him you has cancelled it, but no, you cowered behind your door. You were prepared to go out and get into the taxi, yet not prepared to tell him u had cancelled it. OK then.

Are you quite alright, OP? You clearly cancelled without enough notice for him to be notified on his end. Opening your unlocked door, explaining that you're sorry but you had cancelled and wishing him a good day would have prevented ALL of this. I'm not condoning him stepping foot in your house but taxi drivers deal with some horrible shite, and you not being able to adult is not his issue. Anxiety or not, you were rude and just as weird.

This.

Drosera · 22/01/2024 22:44

Hmm, so he'd come to collect you and wasn't notified of the cancellation. He then sat around for ages under the impression you were just taking the piss and not ready on time. Eventually he poked his head around the door and called to announce his arrival.

I would've just popped down and said "sorry, I cancelled. Didn't they tell you?" For him to sit there wasting time and money while you clearly peek out the curtains would piss me off in his shoes if I'm honest.

alexdgr8 · 22/01/2024 22:47

you are quite anxious but leave your front door unlocked ??
sounds like a load of old moody to me.

He didn't poke his head round. He took steps inside

OP, ignore the aggressive posters on here. Regardless of anything previous, he had no right to be hammering on your door, yelling or coming into your home. He wouldn’t have done it if he thought you were a 6ft bloke, would he?

Side note: I’m sick of being expected by taxi firms to use their crappy online/text systems then putting up with the fallout when they inevitably fuck up.

MercanDede · 22/01/2024 22:28

You acted like a mentally unwell woman afraid to get in the taxi she ordered or to send it away. I wouldn’t be surprised if the driver hasn’t done an adult social services referral.

Imagine if OP gets sectioned. 😂

Toddlerteaplease · 22/01/2024 22:50

Lock your front door!

Sounds like your both a bit silly here tbh sorry

This.

WannabeMathematician · 22/01/2024 22:51

It’s weird how anxiety displays differently in different people. I would have gone out immediately due to him hanging around without info would likely make him more angry and thus more unpredictable.

MasterBeth · 22/01/2024 22:52

I am so anxious I leave my front door unlocked so LITERALLY ANYONE COULD WALK IN.

AdobeWanKenobi · 22/01/2024 22:52

MNet has finally peaked. And the irony that it’s about peeking isn’t lost 😂

Toddlerteaplease · 22/01/2024 22:52

And yes you were really rude. Why didn't you just apologise and explain that you'd cancelled.

Drosera · 22/01/2024 22:53

breadinthemicrowaveornothing · 22/01/2024 22:47

Yes, overstepping a bit (pardon the pun) but you were literally about to get into a car with him from his perspective, so it's not exactly like a stranger followed you home. I think you come off worse here to be perfectly honest. Guy was just trying to do his job.

What if you were running late for a wedding or something and hadn't realised he had arrived? Guy was just trying to help/provide a service.

BobbyBiscuits · 22/01/2024 22:55

I don't know if the police will do all that much and that reaction seems OTT. He should not have entered your home. I personally would not ever leave my door unlocked but that's another matter.
Do report him for rudeness and invasion of privacy to his firm if you feel the need. I think you could have used your words and came out and said 'sorry, I cancelled, I don't know why they sent you' and show him the cancellation thing on your phone and then walk back indoors.

Sunnydays0101 · 22/01/2024 22:55

You could say he couldn’t have opened your door if it hadn’t been unlocked.

The system didn’t send the cancellation message to him, he arrived expecting to collect his passenger and fare, he waited, he got out of the car to come to the door and saw you peeking, he probably put his hand on the door knob, not actually expecting the door to be unlocked and on spur of moment stepped in and shouted taxi. You then locked the door of the room you were in.

The taxi driver then went away, having list his fare and wasted his time waiting around for you.

Princesspollyyy · 22/01/2024 22:56

I can't believe you mentioned calling the police. What an absolute waste of police time that would have been, when all you needed to do was tell the taxi driver you cancelled.

ClimbingHydrangea · 22/01/2024 22:58

Waiting for this to go {poof} The things people come up with.

Why’d you cancel it OP? Just to help progress things.

'Hammering', 'yelling'. Hmm

I mean god forbid a taxi driver knock loudly or raise his voice to announce his arrival when having been sat around for ages and suspecting the customer hasn't heard him arrive.

Stop trying to turn this into a 'poor female victim' dialogue. Guy was losing money and wanted to get moving like anyone else would.

He knocked loudly and called loudly because guess what, some people are hard of hearing.

I'd be pissed off if I had been called to a house, waited outside, and could see that somebody was inside the house watching me but not answering the damn door, and I'd probably make a point in no uncertain terms that I knew they were in there not bloody answering the door to the taxi that they called, too.

All of which could have been avoided if the OP had just popped out when they saw the cab pull up, apologised and shown him that you'd sent a cancellation text.

OP prioritised avoiding her own embarrassment over avoiding wasting more of the guy's time, then has the cheek to complain that he didn't take too kindly to being fucked around.

Yes, generally when I book using the super efficient digital system and then the booking vanishes into thin air and you can’t speak to anyone.

HTH! ☺️
