Rude, invasive taxi driver. AIBU to report?

I booked a taxi and to cut a long story short, didn't need it anymore

It turned up at my house. I had cancelled - they send out a taxi which goes a bit like this

'Thank you for booking A&B taxis. Your driver is on the way. Send CANCEL to cancel your booking'

And I sent cancel. To which an automated response of 'you have cancelled your taxi, etc etc' came through

The driver seemed to be sat there for a few minutes and I wasn't prepared. So I hoped he'd get the message (both literal and physical) that I didn't need the taxi. He was waiting some more and then stormed over the the front door! Could see from my doorbell recording app

He banged on the door and I didn't answer. He then shouted 'I know you're in there! I can see you peaking Angry'

I didn't respond and remained silent. He opened my door! And stepped into the house. He then shouted 'TAXI!'

I was terrified and thought about calling the police. I locked the living room door. I heard some foot steps and then the street door slam. I went out and bolted it straight away, having seen him leave via my Ring camera

Do I report this? To the police or just the taxi firm?

Be thankful it wasn't a burglar/rapist/axe murderer OP and just a slightly pissed off taxi driver that you had ordered . Lock your door in future.

Precipice · 22/01/2024 23:48

YANBU; this sounds terrifying.

RootVegAndMash · 22/01/2024 23:52

Hope you don't intend using them again op because your number and address are probably barred by now.

CliantheLang · 22/01/2024 23:56

Toddlerteaplease · 22/01/2024 22:52

And yes you were really rude. Why didn't you just apologise and explain that you'd cancelled.

Because she had nothing to apologise for. The taxi service's crappy messaging system isn't the OP's fault.

I know that this will come as a big shock to the Stepford Mums here, but men aren't automatically owed a woman's time or attention.

Edit: OP, consider getting a rottweiler. No man will ever dare enter your home without your express permission ever again. 😁

Bex5490 · 23/01/2024 00:03

She had a message saying her taxi had been cancelled. She assumed they would pass on this message to the driver.

Yeah - but weird that she chose to hide round the corner but not a criminal offence. Thinking she should be fined is a bit OTT surely when she actually informed the company with enough time for them to message her back before the cab turned up.

It’s weird that he said ‘ I know you’re in there…’ Most cabs would just call their company to be like the passenger hasn’t shown up. How many times has a cab EVER even knocked on your door? They always just call.

I wish people would stop trying to make it some sort of gendered issue

No man is entitled to a woman's time just for being a man. But a person you have hired to do a job you don't then require them for is owed some consideration in the form of apologising and speaking to them. Not hiding like a child caught with their hand in the biscuit barrell.

If you have such bad anxiety anxiety how are u going to police, taxi company, the council licensing department, victim aid, crime watch.

Delphiniumandlupins · 23/01/2024 00:06

AdobeWanKenobi · 22/01/2024 23:22

Could see from my doorbell recording app

And yet you didn’t utilise it’s main feature and speak to the bloke through it….. Doesn’t add up does it really? Ring doorbells you can watch live but don’t speak though, so concerned about safety you have locks on internal doors but don’t lock the front door?
Nah.

And she cancelled very late, when the taxi was already on its way. But when it arrived she 'wasn't prepared'. I wonder just how long the poor driver was sitting there.

Crime watch 😂😂

CreakyStairs · 23/01/2024 00:11

He obviously didn't get the cancellation message.
I can imagine that he'd be annoyed when he saw you peeking round the curtain. He probably thought that you had pranked him, something which I imagine happens quite often and when that happens it costs them time and money.
I wouldn't report him. I also think you're exaggerating the situation.
If you're as anxious as you say, then why wasn't your door locked? Very strange that someone suffers anxiety yet doesn't lock their door.

Differentstarts · 23/01/2024 00:12

Did he actually come in or just open your door and shout taxi. Is this even that unusual. Some people need help getting in to taxis, disabled, elderly ect. Since you weren't coming out or answering the door he probably thought you needed assistance

RachelGreensHair · 23/01/2024 00:17

I do wonder if he thought you were in danger or being stopped from leaving the house. It's one thing turning up to an address and no one being there and turning up to someone "peaking", maybe him shouting was to scare the person he thought was holding you hostage?

What about women taxi drivers? Or is the sisterhood a myth?

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 23/01/2024 00:30

If it was an Uber and in London then actually I don't blame you. I've had to cancel a few times because the wait time increased and increased until I wouldn't have made it on time. A couple of times the driver has eventually turned up anyway and called me via the app, being very aggressive - I just don't answer the phone to cancelled Uber drivers now and I definitely wouldn't go to the door for one.

SkySecret · 23/01/2024 00:33

Also who has a lock on their living room door?

@ClimbingHydrangea me, I do! Except it’s on the OUTSIDE of the living room door, y’know, just in case I want to take some hostages 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

(no, I didn’t fit it, it was already there!)

SleepingStandingUp · 23/01/2024 00:55

breadinthemicrowaveornothing · 22/01/2024 22:03

If he could see me then why would he think a respectable looking woman would be pranking him? He didn't see a teenage boy

Well you weren't behaving like a respectable looking woman so why should he assume you are one?

You literally, to his knowledge, ordered a taxi then peaked out the window watching him get annoyed at you not coming out and then hid in another room!

He absolutely shouldn't have come in and I would absolutely report that.

But you were massively in the wrong here.

SleepingStandingUp · 23/01/2024 00:57

Bex5490 · 22/01/2024 22:08

Maybe OP was scared to go out in case he got angry and clearly she had a point.

I would have gone out and told him by I know people that wouldn’t - like my grandma who’s old and gets freaked out by speaking to strangers in an unplanned situation.

He sounds like a knob. I’d tell the taxi firm ❤️

Then she could have called the taxi company and said hello, I did cancel but he's turned up, I can't go outside in case he's a lunatic even though I did want to get in his taxi initially

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 23/01/2024 01:16

janeintheframe · 22/01/2024 21:48

Why for gods name didn’t you just go out and say you cancelled it? Why were you peaking from behind the curtains ? Of course he shouldn’t have done what he did. But cmon.

I agree. This could all have been sorted if you had just gone out and spoken to him. Of course he shouldn't have barged into your house, but he obviously didn't get the message that the taxi had been cancelled, and you hiding and peeking out is just odd.

kisstheblarney · 23/01/2024 02:02

Oh yeah the police will be really interested in this non event!

And acting inappropriately is always because you're anxious. The guy has a job to do, your behaviour delayed him getting a call where he was actually going to eat money, perhaps he's anxious to pay his bills?

kisstheblarney · 23/01/2024 02:04

Hopefully the company will blacklist you also, so you won't have the issue again.

Passingthethyme · 23/01/2024 02:07

Why didn't you just say you cancelled it? He probably gets people faffing around all the time

kisstheblarney · 23/01/2024 02:08

She's anxious apparently!

Passingthethyme · 23/01/2024 02:09

So rude OP, grow up and act like an adult. Feel sorry for the poor guy

kisstheblarney · 23/01/2024 02:08

If she's that anxious she needs to drive herself!

Danfromdownunder · 23/01/2024 02:11

OP did you cancel when he had already arrived?
