Rude, invasive taxi driver. AIBU to report?

I booked a taxi and to cut a long story short, didn't need it anymore

It turned up at my house. I had cancelled - they send out a taxi which goes a bit like this

'Thank you for booking A&B taxis. Your driver is on the way. Send CANCEL to cancel your booking'

And I sent cancel. To which an automated response of 'you have cancelled your taxi, etc etc' came through

The driver seemed to be sat there for a few minutes and I wasn't prepared. So I hoped he'd get the message (both literal and physical) that I didn't need the taxi. He was waiting some more and then stormed over the the front door! Could see from my doorbell recording app

He banged on the door and I didn't answer. He then shouted 'I know you're in there! I can see you peaking Angry'

I didn't respond and remained silent. He opened my door! And stepped into the house. He then shouted 'TAXI!'

I was terrified and thought about calling the police. I locked the living room door. I heard some foot steps and then the street door slam. I went out and bolted it straight away, having seen him leave via my Ring camera

Do I report this? To the police or just the taxi firm?

MNet has finally peaked. And the irony that it’s about peeking isn’t lost 😂

😂😂 Thank you.

Missingmyusername · 23/01/2024 02:33

You waited until the taxi was outside and the cancelled it? Bizarre.
Why on Earth not just say sorry I did cancel, albeit late. Never peak, because people can generally tell! No he shouldn’t have come in the house. I don’t actually blame him though, whole scenario sounds annoying.

ActDottie · 23/01/2024 04:47

janeintheframe · 22/01/2024 21:48

Why for gods name didn’t you just go out and say you cancelled it? Why were you peaking from behind the curtains ? Of course he shouldn’t have done what he did. But cmon.

This. It’s so childish to hide and the whole situation would’ve been avoided if you went out and said you’d cancelled it.

AgentProvocateur · 23/01/2024 04:56

Rude and bizarre - you, not him. You’ve already made him lose money. Don’t put his job at risk too.

usedtobeasizeten · 23/01/2024 05:22

Well….if this isn’t a POLICE NOW!!! situation I don’t know what is!!

GreenWheat · 23/01/2024 05:52

Good grief, I honestly wonder how some people function in life. A normal adult would have just popped out, used their voice and spent ten seconds explaining that they'd cancelled the cab. Sometimes I I am flabbergasted by what I read on MN....

janeintheframe · 23/01/2024 06:00

Yes I wonder if the op either didn’t actually cancel at all or cancelled when he was already pretty much there

and assume he stepped into a porch to shout taxi, Not the house itself.

there was clearly a reason the op was hiding and pretending she wasn’t in. And I doubt it was anxiety. More likely avoiding a fee or a confrontation as she’d not cancelled/cancelled on time.

I can’t believe a few folks are suggesting report to try to lose him his job. Or that someone tried to turn it into a gender issue. She booked a taxi it’s common decency to tell the driver it’s cancelled, not dick him around, and if he just knocked on her door and stepped into her porch there is no issue here.

PutThatDownNowPlease · 23/01/2024 06:02

I know not the point of the thread but:

Peaking = reaching the height of something
Peeking = to look at/glance

Also - as PP have said YABU. Doesn’t excuse him entering your home, but you could’ve told him you’d canceled at multiple stages and didn’t, he obviously hadn’t got the text. You should also consider locking your front door generally.

What makes you think that?

I cancelled before the taxi arrived of course

Homesweethome23 · 23/01/2024 06:52

He was wrong to enter your home but as others have said it would have been easy to just say ‘sorry I have cancelled’.

Also why is your front door unlocked that anyone can enter your house? Lock it!

If that’s true why were you hiding and trying to pretend you were not in?

Oh me too!! Thankfully, I’ve never met a Mnetter in the wild! How do they manage to hold down these six figure salaries in their highly stressful niche industries and yet ‘peak’ behind their curtains because they can’t cancel a taxi?!

ManchesterBea · 23/01/2024 07:01

I quite literally hate people calling unannounced, the thought of somebody knocking on the door, and walking in is really not for me.
But...
This is why I keep my door locked! But I don't ignore the door, certainly not if I've ordered a taxi, tried to cancel it, when the cancellation has gone through.

Muchof · 23/01/2024 07:05

I would just let it go. You were behaving very strangely and wasted this man’s time. Call it evens.

CharlieUniformNovemberTangoYankee · 23/01/2024 07:49

Drosera · 22/01/2024 23:40

Entered the porch morelike.

He opened my door! And stepped into the house.

NotQuiteNorma · 23/01/2024 07:55

So anxious that any random stranger can just push your door open and walk right in. That's not very security conscious .Wise up. Who has a front door these days that just anyone can push open from outside anyway?

Brefugee · 23/01/2024 07:58

He has lost work. Money. A Fare.

And you need to grow some ovaries and open the door like a grown up and tell the poor chap that you had cancelled, sorry he had obviously not got the message, and that would be it.

Sure, he was a bit OTT but you have no idea how his day/week/year has been.

Sirzy · 23/01/2024 08:02

breadinthemicrowaveornothing · 23/01/2024 06:46

How long before?

he was wrong but your inaction certainly helped create the situation.

Ferraria · 23/01/2024 08:02

Do not report him. Instead take a long hard look at your own behaviour. All you had to do was pop out and tell him that you had already cancelled but instead you let him sit there like a lemon wondering what was going on.

NotQuiteNorma · 23/01/2024 08:03

So what is it that you would actually be reporting him for exactly? The door was open so he didn't force entry. You called him to the address and the cancelled message very clearly didn't reach him, so he was obviously going to try and let you know he had arrived. What's the actual criminal offence here?

Apart from wasting police time of course..

StepAwayFromGoogling · 23/01/2024 08:09

How soon before he arrived did you cancel the taxi? God only knows why you didn't just put your head out and say you'd cancelled. Peeking at him through the curtains is juvenile and probably did make him think you were playing a prank. I bet this sort of shit happens to taxi drivers all the time.

ClimbingHydrangea · 23/01/2024 08:10

@SkySecret - actually now you mention it I realise my grandmother’s living room also did and she would lock it before bed every night. Weird!

theduchessofspork · 23/01/2024 08:10

breadinthemicrowaveornothing · 22/01/2024 22:00

None of those questions or my answers explain him coming into my house though, or shouting at me and saying 'he could see me peaking'

He shouldn’t have stepped into your house

But you were a dick for not going out and telling him it was cancelled, or at least ringing the firm to get hold of an actual human being and asked them to call him.

He’s trying to earn a living and waiting outside your house is wasting his time.

Behave better next time (including cancelling earlier if possible) and don’t on this occasion ring the company to get this bloke in trouble given you were at least equally to blame for this situation.

RedHelenB · 23/01/2024 08:13

This. Or just shout out from the window.

ScroogeMcDuckling · 23/01/2024 08:24

Oh dear - why do women always want to blame men for their mistakes.

you left your front door open
you were peeping out of your window like a schoolgirl giggling
this taxi driver just wants to earn a living - driving taxis for a living certainly doesn’t pay much - when all you are doing is taking people to the shops.

Sometimes men are at fault, sometimes women are at fault, sadly just admit to yourself that you behaved like a child.
