I can't remember feeling so unwell before. I'm coughing up horrible green stuff (sorry tmi), my throat is agony, my chest really hurts when I cough, I have zero appetite, haven't eaten properly in 6 days now, and instead of getting better I'm feeling a bit better one day and then 20x worse the next. I've tried to keep going at work this week despite feeling so awful so maybe that hasn't helped, I've possibly pushed myself too far. I'm at home today and feeling absolutely rotten. Im in tears with the pain all over my body and my throat and chest 😢

Anyone else got this ?? It's absolutely floored me. I've called the GP and they're ringing me back this afternoon but in all honesty they'll probably just say it's viral and I have to ride it out. 😢

We all had it over Christmas - thankfully after Boxing Day. It wiped us out and it took a while to get over it. It was definitely going around in this area. Not Covid. I didn't eat for days, just drank a lot of hot drinks (felt very dehydrated) and painkillers. Fingers crossed your GP is helpful.

nomadicnana · 18/01/2024 10:12

If you have green sputum that's a chest infection and you need antibiotics. Hopefully your GP will prescribe some. In the meantime you need to rest.

StrawberryWater · 18/01/2024 10:13

We had it over Christmas plus I had covid on top of it.

It was dreadful and we've only just gotten over it.

Inspirationpending · 18/01/2024 10:23

Yes I had it for about 3 weeks and same as you struggled through work which made it take so much longer to recover from.
Ended up with a chest infection that took two lots of antibiotics to clear
Hope you feel better soon

edissa · 18/01/2024 10:47

I feel less alone now thank you all. And sorry so many of you have been suffering too, it's absolutely awful 😢

Yes. DD had it first and now me and DS have it. It’s awful. I haven’t felt this unwell in a long time. I can’t sleep because of coughing either. Really grim x

ShatParp · 18/01/2024 11:45

We have a horrendous virus in our house too. I've had a temp for 10 days now and drenching night sweats as well as the cough and fatigue. My temp only goes up to 38 so it's not too bad. Saw a physician associate yesterday who checked my chest, etc. and said it must be viral. It's the most ill we've ever been!
Yours sounds worse with the pain, though...can you update us with what the GP said OP? Hope you recover quickly!

Jadeee123 · 20/01/2024 17:49

Hi everyone hope ok to post im quite new to MN I am absolutely floored also with pneumonia for the past week and feel much better knowing I’m not the only one out there that’s ill at the moment. I have been bed bound for a week now after 2 hospital trips to confirm pneumonia. On 200mg doxycycline a day!!!

laddersandsnakes12 · 20/01/2024 18:01

My son and I had it over Christmas, it was awful. The coughing was like nothing I'd ever experienced, I was coughing so violently that it made me throw up constantly. Green phlegm too. We went to the doctors and was told my son had inflamed windpipes and a chest infection, and I had bronchitis. It took me 3 weeks of coughing and struggling to walk anywhere because it would make me breathless to start feeling better , and even though my son is recovered he is still coughing a little bit. Thankfully not as violently as over Christmas, but it's lingering. My dr prescribed us antibiotics, inhalers, decongestants etc and that did the trick to get rid of the worst of it. Hope you recover soon, it's miserable.

CissOff · 20/01/2024 18:08

Me 🤚

I’m now on antibiotics and steroids now and feeling a teeny tiny bit better.

Celticliving · 20/01/2024 18:12

Yep.

I was taken into hospital on Sunday and got discharged on Thursday.

I have never been so ill and it's been going on for 18 days now.

sharptoothlemonshark · 20/01/2024 18:16

do you have an oximeter at home OP? Many people have them tucked away in a drawer somewhere after covid, or can you borrow one? it might be worth measuring your oxygen. You sound really ill. I was similar, measured my oxygen levels, and as a result was sent directly to A and E, where I was admitted for 7 days with pneumonia

staceyflack · 20/01/2024 18:17

Me too. Positive covid test boxing day - still not recovered. Coughing, wheezing, chest pain, joint pain, night sweats. Now bi-lateral ear and sinus infection. Started antibiotics yesterday. Been in tears all day, as so fed up and exhausted.... so, I empathise entirely. Get well soon everyone. 💐

Purplestorm83 · 20/01/2024 18:21

Ugh I started with this in 30th December, after 2 weeks of feeling grim I was almost better and then the next day came down with tonsillitis, still not recovered from that, have a horrible throat like swallowing glass and still coughing from the chesty thing I had before ☹️

edissa · 20/01/2024 18:36

Sorry to hear so many others are suffering too 😢

I spoke to a GP over the phone yesterday who said it "sounds like classic flu" and she's not concerned unless I get any worse or don't improve by Monday. I haven't eaten a proper meal in over a week now. I'm surviving on crisps, soup and water. No food has any appeal, I have no appetite at all. My throat is constantly scratchy and sore and the cough is so awful, sometimes takes my breath away it's so violent and relentless. I'm utterly miserable and just need to start feeling better now, I don't understand why my body cannot shake this off 😢

No I don't have one

No I don't have one

from my own experience, I don't think you should be assuming this is viral or that you can ride it out. Do you have out of hours or urgent care where you can go and get checked?

thebestinterest · 20/01/2024 18:43

Your symptoms sound like those of my currently ill 17mon old. She has croup and it’s absolutely awful!

laclochette · 20/01/2024 18:47

You poor thing. Whatever it is, you're really suffering. If you're no better by Monday please force things with a doctor. Several people I know have needed antibiotics for chest infections in the last week.

Please step away from work until you feel better, it really does prolong things if you can't rest. I haven't followed my own advice and tried to work through a bad cold this week and I'm really regretting it now as I feel rotten still...

Take lots of vitamin D, it helps your immune system and energy levels and most of us are deficient in the UK at this time of year.

I hope you feel better soon!

SmallestInTheClass · 20/01/2024 18:50

Lots of it going around at the moment. As well as COVID and flu there's increasing cases of Whooping cough (otherwise referred to as 100 day cough). Think that's what I've got. Three weeks in and have never coughed so much in my life. Can't get more than about an hour of sleep without waking to coughing and gasping for breath. GP gave me antibiotics for a suspected chest infection but not optimistic the cough is going anytime soon. Get well soon everyone!

Billydessert · 20/01/2024 18:59

Yes, I can't remember being ill and it going on for so long! I had it and didn't leave the house or get dressed for 2 weeks. 2 weeks after and I still have fatigue.
Just to say, I also lost my appetite and didn't eat much for about a week and ended up with gastritis which has been so painful and obviously not helped with recovery. The doctor said it can happen if you suddenly stop eating and the stomach sort of doesn't get the memo and still keeps churning away with the usual gusto. I just wanted to mention this as it wasn't something I'd heard of or anticipated, probably because I've never had a cold for so long, but it really knocked me back. Might be something to watch out for OP if you're struggling to eat.

PilatesForAll · 20/01/2024 19:05

My nan has had it. She said she’s never been so ill. 3 weeks later she’s still not right, but she’s elderly so that’s to be expected. She had two lots of antibiotics but I suspect it was viral. You need to rest - no work!

edissa · 20/01/2024 19:18

@sharptoothlemonshark
I have a 2 year old with me and I'm on my own at the moment, otherwise I'd go and get seen at out of hours. Just so utterly fed up now.

Yes, this is like me. At points coughing so much I'm literally gasping for air, I've never had a cough like it. And the pain in my throat and chest when I cough is so awful 😢

Worriedaboutleaving · 20/01/2024 19:23

You need someone to listen to your chest in person - with a stethoscope. You may well need antibiotics / have pneumonia - please request a face to face exam.
