I can't remember feeling so unwell before. I'm coughing up horrible green stuff (sorry tmi), my throat is agony, my chest really hurts when I cough, I have zero appetite, haven't eaten properly in 6 days now, and instead of getting better I'm feeling a bit better one day and then 20x worse the next. I've tried to keep going at work this week despite feeling so awful so maybe that hasn't helped, I've possibly pushed myself too far. I'm at home today and feeling absolutely rotten. Im in tears with the pain all over my body and my throat and chest 😢

Anyone else got this ?? It's absolutely floored me. I've called the GP and they're ringing me back this afternoon but in all honesty they'll probably just say it's viral and I have to ride it out. 😢

If you have a productive cough with green sputum and you’re that unwell it sounds like this is a bacterial infection
possibly secondary to a virus
but you will need to treat it with antibiotics

@Jadeee123 I'm going to push to be seen in person on Monday if it's no better then.
Hope you're on the mend now x

Good . No im not to be honest temp is starting again and can’t even walk up the stairs without gasping for breath !!

Lemonyfuckit · 20/01/2024 20:04

Sorry you're suffering OP, that sounds awful. Hope you feel better soon.

I've come down with something extremely rapidly yesterday evening and just done a Covid test, which it turns out I have. It really floored me last time I had it so really hoping it doesn't go on as long this time.

There's definitely a lot of nasty stuff going around flu/covid/bugs etc.

Lemonyfuckit · 20/01/2024 20:09

HousePlantNeglect · 20/01/2024 19:33

Yes! I'm floored with it! I keep testing as I cannot believe it isn't covid.

Tight chest, horrible cough, aching skin and muscles, fever and shivering, and a bit of nausea to boot.

Poor kids have had it to. Now I know why they were so clingy and upset!

Edited

This is what I have, the right burning chest in particular. Came on so rapidly went from feeling completely fine all of yesterday to completely rotten in about an hour yesterday evening, and just did a Covid test which is positive.

Lucyintheskywithadiamond · 20/01/2024 20:12

I am just recovering from it. Started 2 weeks ago today. I got penicillin as it turns out I also had tonsillitis and an ear infection. Not felt so ill for along time. The cough was horrific. On Thursday I slept through for the first time since I started with it. It is bloody awful as I could not sleep lying down and I was waking up every hour or so.

HousePlantNeglect · 20/01/2024 20:13

@Lemonyfuckit so about 24hrs after you got symptoms you got a positive test? Might try another.

Lovecat · 20/01/2024 20:28

I've got some variant of it - mucus is clear, so not a bacterial infection, but my sinuses are packed, my ears are in pain and when I cough I just can’t stop, to the point of vomiting. DD had it the first week of Jan, but hers went in a few days, DH then went down with it and is still not 100%, but he's asthmatic so everything always goes to his chest.

I started having a scratchy throat on Wednesday afternoon and now I'm lying in bed wheezing as I breathe out and feeling at death's door. No appetite at all, everything aches. Normally a dose of nightnurse and a chest rub with Vicks sees me right, but this has floored me.

Haven't been able to get through to the GP, but as my mucus is clear I'm not sure what they can offer.... commiserations and get well soon to everybody 🙏

Whooping cough? But If I've been vaccinated would I not be protected from this?

Sadly not. I thought this but apparently it only protects for a few years, to cover you when you're young and at serious risk of hospitalisation. Adults aren't offered the vaccine unless pregnant. I'd pay good money for it given how I'll I've been. Hope at least I have some immunity now.

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 20/01/2024 21:37

Just had very similar symptoms - it was influenza A. I've had flu before years ago but this was another level. Came out of nowhere - woke up with raging fever, shivering, aching all over. Then the endless coughing, snot and mucus started. No appetite, no energy, splitting headache. I was downing max paracetamol and ibuprofen, barely taking the edge off. Had 4 days off work, struggled through the 5th and thought surely I'll get better now.

Nope, coughing got worse and all the snot mutated to some kind of yellow/green gunge. Sooo tired and brain fog. By Wednesday I went back to the doctor who finally prescribed antibiotics for the now-bronchitis in my chest, plus codeine phosphate for the cough and an inhaler. It's day 13 now and I finally feel human. Still coughing a bit though.

Never, never want to get this illness again! Definitely don't let the doctor fob you off without a proper exam, you can easily get a secondary infection.

pickledandpuzzled · 20/01/2024 21:44

I’m slightly reassured to see people here. I’m coughing to the point of choking. My SATS are ok now though they dipped a bit the first week.

its frustrating it won’t go away.

labamba007 · 20/01/2024 22:02

Ours started on 25th December and we're just getting over it now. It's awful. Same as you coughing up green, and the fatigue, sore chest, breathless on top. Not Covid but took a while to get through!

bollys · 20/01/2024 22:13

DS brought this home 9 days ago and he still isn't right. One by the one the rest of the house has gone down.

I'm on day 7.
It's absolutely hellish. I've never seen us all so unwell and wiped.
Think I'll cry if I cough one more time, the pain is crazy.

Ellysetta · 20/01/2024 23:07

Yes, the cough has been crazy, so bad for sleep. Wet the bed a couple of times from coughing so hard, that wasn’t great.

I didn’t see the GP deapite the yellor/green goo coming out if my lungs as my worst two weeks were over xmas and tbh my GP rarely helps anyway.

Still got a cough 8 weeks later but it’s nearly gone I hope.

Everywhere I go I hear horrible coughing. V curious what is actually going on. Never had a chest infection in my life before.

Jadeee123 · 21/01/2024 08:16

How is everyone today? I’m still feeling like hell- the night sweats are so bad with the pneumonia is this a symptom? I’m on my last day of antibiotics today but might go back to GP tomorrow

Stringofpearlies · 21/01/2024 08:33

I was fobbed off by multiple health professionals until I sprained a rib coughing, the A&E did an x-ray and that's how I discovered I had pneumonia. Lack of appetite is a symptom of pneumonia (and other things), I'd be pushing for a chest x ray if you can.

Sometimes I always feel like I’m fobbed off with my symptoms off the Gp. I went straight to an and e where they confirmed pneumonia. I’m on day 8 now and absolutely sick of my life.

ShatParp · 21/01/2024 16:05

I gave in and went to the GP after 12 days of fever and coughing up unspeakable things. Crackles in lower left lung and antibiotics now. Get checked people!
The nurse who did my blood tests said they have had a really unusual amount of patients who started with a virus and now got a secondary bacterial infection. She said she hadn't known anything like it!

My GP said the same thing blast winter it was all strep throats but this year it's all chest infections.
My 2nd round of antibiotics is definitely working to help clear my right lung. I can sleep lying down now, as long as it's on my left side. Still tired (just had a nap) but heading in the right direction. But I've only been sick for two weeks unlike some.of you. I did go to GP early and was on antibiotics pretty quickly.

StrawberryJellyBelly · 21/01/2024 16:49

I’ve had it since Christmas night and I’m still flattened by it. I was started on antibiotics today after a chest x-ray as well as a nebuliser with steroids and ventolin.

I feel as if I’m being suffocated with a thick nasal drip that feels like concrete and I can’t clear my chest to save my life.

im absolutely exhausted by it.

pickledandpuzzled · 21/01/2024 16:52

Anyone else feel as though the top of the windpipe is irritated? You know the way it is after something has ‘gone down the wrong way‘ and you have choked a bit? It’s all irritated and feels like I need to cough or drink it clear.

MuchTooTired · 21/01/2024 17:00

I have it! It’s been worse than covid for me, I’ve tested twice and am negative for that. Had an ooh appointment yesterday who said it was viral and basically to suck it up and take ibuprofen 🤷🏻‍♀️ throat is agony, it runs from my neck up to my ears (had to sleep sitting upright last night) like a tension headache except I’ve got a whole head ache as well, full body sweats and freezing, could barely stay awake the first few days and have no appetite. Woke up feeling a bit closer to alive today, and have been doing a few bits but have deteriorated swiftly this afternoon and am back to feeling like utter death. My chest is clear, tonsils aren’t infected, I don’t know what the bloody hell this virus is but it’s kicking my ass!

Yes😭 this all of the time. As well as the uncontrollable coughing that takes my breath away and makes me retch

I felt briefly better this afternoon and have now crashed again. 😭 I am SO fed up.

Briefly a little better and now awful again 😭

PSEnny · 21/01/2024 17:10

I’ve had it but have definitely put it down to flu. I didn’t have the flu jab this winter and I usually get it. Temperature for 4 days which was awful at night. Heart rate was 110 just laying down in bed. Has taken 2 weeks to feel like I’m getting better and I’m still not great.

Jadeee123 · 21/01/2024 17:13

I feel like I’ve got something stuck in my throat and constantly trying to drink to get what ever it is away, burning up again and just feel like my chest is getting tighter. Going back to gp tomorrow to get some more antibiotics. What antibiotics is everyone on??
