I can't remember feeling so unwell before. I'm coughing up horrible green stuff (sorry tmi), my throat is agony, my chest really hurts when I cough, I have zero appetite, haven't eaten properly in 6 days now, and instead of getting better I'm feeling a bit better one day and then 20x worse the next. I've tried to keep going at work this week despite feeling so awful so maybe that hasn't helped, I've possibly pushed myself too far. I'm at home today and feeling absolutely rotten. Im in tears with the pain all over my body and my throat and chest 😢

Anyone else got this ?? It's absolutely floored me. I've called the GP and they're ringing me back this afternoon but in all honesty they'll probably just say it's viral and I have to ride it out. 😢

Imagine only just learning that we're in the second biggest wave of COVID since it began, that covid tests are not 100% accurate, that COVID causes immune suppression (you catch everything else as well), can lead to long covid (heart problems, type 1 diabetes, chronic fatigue, brain fog (damage) and various other organ harms), and significantly increases your risk of secondary infections such as pneumonia. #elephantintheroom

Jadeee123 · 22/01/2024 16:24

To be honest I think I’ve probley had covid and it’s turned into pneumonia!

ShatParp · 22/01/2024 16:48

@Jadeee123 I thought that too, but I had it over Christmas so presumed this was something different!!! Unless the pneumonia is from Christmas...!
Hope the second round of antibiotics works. I'm only on my first and keeping everything crossed!
OP, hope you managed to get in the docs today!!!

Ladysodor · 22/01/2024 16:54

I think it’s been fairly firmly documented that lockdown (resulting in limited social contact) has wrecked our immune systems. Most people I know have had a dose.

What antibiotics are you on? How are they making you feel?

You honestly think that staying at home for a few months literally years ago is causing this?
you don't think it might possibly be either covid or other viruses that are having a field day because of the damage repeat past covid infections have done to immune systems?

edissa · 22/01/2024 17:32

I was seen by a nurse today at my GP surgery, who listened to my chest and did my obs etc and said she saw "nothing concerning". She said she's seen loads of people over recent weeks with similar symptoms and that this virus doing the rounds is particularly brutal. She didn't want to prescribe antibiotics and said I should only be worried and go back if I'm no better in 6 weeks!? 😳

Just totally and utterly fed up now. 😢

What? If this is some smart arse comment aimed at me seriously take it elsewhere I cannot even begin to tell you how NOT in the mood I am.

If I've misread it, then I apologise.

Another one with similar although not a sore cough, just phlegmy-type cough. Absolutely loaded with the cold, started with a sore throat for a day and two weeks on I am still sneezing, coughing up gunk and can barely hear anything my head is so full of snot that won't fully budge, despite blowing and inhaling steam. Feel a bit tired and brain fogged, absolutely no interest in anything other than trying to breath unencumbered!

TokyoSushi · 22/01/2024 22:04

DD(10) currently has it, but then hopefully that's our house done, we've all had it one by one since Boxing Day, it's really awful.

I thought all this was well known and pretty obvious. They locked down the world and begged us to vaccinate for a reason. Covid sucks and had big consequences. I’ve never had a chest infection in my life before and now I’m on week 8 of coughing.

But hey in terms of life expectancy we’re still massively winning compared to most of the world and also to most our history. It’s just things aren’t quite as rosy as they were in the 1990s.

Hey ho. At least it isn’t bubonic plague.

Celticliving · 23/01/2024 11:25

I've been doing alot better during the day, though my energy levels are very low.

Nights are a whole other ball game. Just constantly coughing and when I do fall asleep, I wake up feeling like I'm drowning.

billybear · 23/01/2024 14:47

I came down with it on 31 November after feeling very groggy for a week, and only stopped coughing ten days ago. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, so hang in there everyone.

mathanxiety · 23/01/2024 15:47

@ZenNudist
I had the nausea right at the start too.

ShatParp · 23/01/2024 16:09

@Jadeee123 I've got amoxicillin, I asked not to have doxycycline as I've got awful acid reflux and didn't want to make it worse! Hoping they work, they have sorted out the temp and vile stuff i was coughing up but today i feel utterly wiped out, legs like jelly. Even the kids are still tired and they usually bounce back quickly, not this time!!
How are you feeling today on your second lot of antibiotics? Did the doc hear something on your chest or did you still have a temp to make them give you more?
This thread is making me feel so much less alone 💕

She listened to my chest and was still wheezy, temp was ok when I was at the docs but game me another 5 days to see how I go! Hopefully you feel better soon. I think the antibiotics can knock you for 6 as well to be honest. Yes it’s making me feel less along also. I am sick of staring at 4 walls in my house!! X

ShatParp · 23/01/2024 16:18

@SheriffofRottingham it really has!!! I was on the Covid for Christmas thread, got over that, had a few days of feeling ok then came down with whatever the hell this is! My partner reckons it's the newer covid, but we didn't have any tests left so no clue!

Poudretteite · 23/01/2024 16:20

We all exactly what you decribe last November. Have never been so ill. Was feverish and in bed for a full two weeks

ShatParp · 23/01/2024 16:26

@Jadeee123 I really hope they completely get rid of it for you!!
That's true, the antibiotics probably aren't doing great things for our bodies either!! Might invest in some probiotics!!!
The cabin fever doesn't help does it!! What with covid then this, I've had something like 3 days in the outside world since Christmas eve!!! We need some seriously funny threads on here to keep us going! X

It’s hit our house too. My youngest ended up with pneumonia and I’m the last to come down with it. It’s pretty rough😕
