If you could only choose one, which would you choose a tumble or a dishwasher.
context: single parent with x3 kids 11-7yrs

Dishwasher!
I've never had a tumble drier and it's not something I've ever thought of getting.

oldestmumaintheworld · 07/01/2024 20:35

Dishwasher every time.

Luddite26 · 07/01/2024 20:35

Tumble dryer first always for me.

HesterLee · 07/01/2024 20:35

Dishwasher. No contest.

itsmylife7 · 07/01/2024 20:35

Tumble dryer without a doubt.

The kids are the "dishwashers" 😁

Smoothyloopy · 07/01/2024 20:35

Tumble drier

Tumble dryer. It's been raining since July, I have no idea how anyone is getting their laundry dried without one.

IncognitoUsername · 07/01/2024 20:36

Dishwasher. I’ve never had a tumble drier.

ElleLeopine · 07/01/2024 20:36

I use my dishwasher every single day, and the dryer perhaps once every two weeks.

Which would you use more?

rwalker · 07/01/2024 20:36

Dishwasher get air maid and dehumidifier for washing

Inyourwildestdreams · 07/01/2024 20:37

Tumble drier without a shadow of a doubt. Wouldn’t even cross my mind to get a dishwasher!!

Our last house had a dishwasher and I still didn’t know how to switch it on 7 years later when we sold the house 😂😂

Falkenburg · 07/01/2024 20:37

I would never have a dishwasher. They are awful things. I have used them and got rid.

A tumble drier is essential.

Terfosaurus · 07/01/2024 20:39

Tumble dryer. There's an alternative way to get the dishes clean.

Trying to dry all the laundry when the weather is bad and not end up with a damp house (plus I don't have anywhere to put airers without them being in the way) is impossible.

SnowsFalling · 07/01/2024 20:39

Dishwasher.
Had a tumble drier in a rental house where we couldn't dry outside. Never worn through so many clothes in my life.

randomchap · 07/01/2024 20:39

Tumble dryer

You can wash dishes by hand, but there's no other way of quickly drying clothes

Also 11 is a good age to start them doing the washing up

Tumble dryer. We briefly had a d/w in one house we rented and it barely got used because DH insisted everything has to be rinsed first and by the time you've done that and wiped the surfaces and washed the things that can't go in it, you might as well wash up. While with 3 DCs worth of clothes, the drier was used 3+ times a week and saved a lot more effort.
I would like a d/w when we move, because DCs are teens now so they can load it and rinse as they go and I am kind of fed up of washing 20 million cups and glasses. But if it was a choice, I'd definitely keep the tumble dryer.

wombats78 · 07/01/2024 20:41

Dishwasher, better for water use and more hygenic.

Heated airer and dehumidifier for clothes.

Matrons · 07/01/2024 20:41

I got rid of my tumble dryer and replaced it with a dishwasher. I am v happy that I did.

Had to buy a drysoon and dehumidifier for washing though

TheKeatingFive · 07/01/2024 20:42

Dishwasher. I have zero interest in living a life without one.

Could you get a washer dryer though? We have one. I only use the dryer once in a blue moon, but handy for those times.

I'm just too lazy to carry the clothes up the stairs, out to the garden and up the steps to the line when the tumble drier is right next to the washing machine!
If it's lovely weather I do put things on an airer on the patio, because obviously it's much cheaper and more environmentally friendly. But I don't do it often enough. Also the clothes are less creased when tumbling so I don't have to iron!

Tumble dryer

arethereanyleftatall · 07/01/2024 20:47

Having never had a tumble drier, I'm really surprised at these responses.

For my life -

Dishwasher on every day, 2 mins ti stack, would take about half an hour to wash all by hand. 28 mins saved per day and no wet crinkly hands.

Laundry - every other day, takes 5 mins to hang up.

So a dishwasher saves 28x7 mins per week and a tumble drier 5x3 mins.

Me and two teens.

Or do I have an unusual dish/clothing wash ratio?

Mumaway · 07/01/2024 20:47

Definitely tumble drier

cariadlet · 07/01/2024 20:49

I've never had a dishwasher or tumble drier but with only 1 dc I haven't needed either.

With 3 dc, I'd be tempted to get a tumble drier to be able to dry towels and bedding more easily in the winter.

CeriB82 · 07/01/2024 20:49

Tumble dryer. Mine is 24 yrs old, bought it 2 yrs before my 1st was born

my dishwasher broke 4 yrs ago and ive not replaced it.
