If you could only choose one, which would you choose a tumble or a dishwasher.

Dishwasher, we use it every day.

Tumble drier is used once every 2 months.

Dishwasher. I’ve got a dehumidifier in the conservatory and a line outside for drying washing.

Tumble dryer every time. Never had a dishwasher but I don't like them.

but I don't like them

Why not? 😆

Tumble dryer. I can handle washing lots of endless pots in a sink, but I cannot cope with piles of washing. As someone with 4 kids and therefore lots of laundry, a tumble dryer is a must have so that I’m not waiting forever for things to dry before I can move on to the next load.

Dishwasher

DoWaDiddyDiddy · 08/01/2024 09:16

Itd be a dishwasher, all day every day for me. I only use our dryer because our front loading washer smashes the heck out of our towels and if I don't dry them they're like rasp paper. Really annoys me to have to use it on a nice day when I could otherwise hang on the line and have them smell of fresh air and sunshine.

ArmsofMine · 08/01/2024 09:22

Dishwasher, use it every day and really missed it when we were renovating the kitchen. Have a tumble dryer but have not used in the last year as expensive to run. I use the line to dry clothes outdoors from Spring and use the dehumidifier when drying indoors in the winter. You’ll use the dishwasher all year long so it’s a no brainer to me.

Tumble drier. You can still wash the dishes by hand, but it's not so easy in the winter getting clothes and especially bedding dry without a dishwasher.

The only person who would choose a dishwasher is someone who has never had a proper tumble dryer.

Rubbish!

I have lived with both, and with neither. The tumble dryer when I had a proper vented one in the garage was used rarely, either on occasions when something was needed urgently or for certain things that take a long time to dry like down coats or a particularly thick set of bedding. Otherwise washing went on the line or on the radiators. The dishwasher on the other hand went on daily.

I then lived for several years with neither. I would occasionally need a tumble dryer to dry a down coat and could either use a launderette or pop round to a family member and ask a favour. On the other hand the dishes needed doing regularly, plus the less frequent things like oven shelves and grill pans.

I still don't have room for a dishwasher. When I bought a new washing machine I bought a washer dryer, it does the job when needed but most of my washing goes on a maiden with a dehumidifier running if needed (I can't dry outdoors and don't have central heating) most things dry fine in around 24 hours it isn't a hardship.

I don't have either, so ideally I'd like both!

They're both brilliant labour saving devices! You wouldn't regret buying either...

Dishwasher every time.

Both of mine broke within a week of each other about about 8 years ago. We had replaced the dishwasher in 48 hours and the tumble drier last year.
It was a no brainier because the dishwasher changed my life! No more visual clutter.
Tumble drier is a really nice to have but I can get by without it and find we have a lot of clothes that either can't go in it or look worse for going in it.
