If you could only choose one, which would you choose a tumble or a dishwasher.

Tumble dryer. I have a dishwasher I never use. When I get my new kitchen, I will use the space for a pan drawer.

what stuff?
apart from maybe the wooden handles of a pan that we only use once a year (and possibly shouldn't go in really) everything is still in good form.

The dishwasher wrecked my last set of pans and lots of crockery etc has lost its pattern from the dishwasher.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/01/2024 21:35

Tumble dryer. I have both but have always had a dryer. Dishwasher came with the house.

Galliano · 07/01/2024 21:35

Is the decision a financial one or a space related one? Assuming the latter is get a tumble dryer now and save like mad for a dishwasher - maybe pick one up secondhand on market place or similar from someone refitting kitchen. You have a lot on your plate and really need both.

TyneTeas · 07/01/2024 21:37

If it is a space issue, I would go with either a washer/dryer and/or a bench top dishwasher (some if them actually have quite decent capacity, Cookology does an 8 place setting one that has two levels)

Theoldwoman · 07/01/2024 21:37

A dishwasher, one hundred percent.

SouthEastCoast · 07/01/2024 21:37

Dishwasher but I would also find the space for a tumble dryer because I would hate to be without mine

Auntieobem · 07/01/2024 21:39

We used to have a dishwasher, it broke we never had it fixed. We got a new kitchen and didn't get a new one. Life would be a pain in the arse without our tumble drier - which lives in the garage. Only time I miss the dishwasher is Christmas - but even then washing up only takes half an hour or so.

Musicboxinrepair · 07/01/2024 21:42

Tumble dryer 100%.

Dishes take 5 minutes in the sink if not built up. Wash up after each meal and get the kids to wash their drink cups/glasses as they go. I have 3 dc and still found it slower to rinse, load and unload the dishwasher!

It takes several hours if not more to dry the amount of clothes a tumble dryer could do in less than an hour. Nevermind the lugging outside, inside, outside again, on the airer etc.
You don't need to buy as many clothes as you can wash and dry them quickly in the week and they won't smell damp and will be less creased when pulled out warm.

Hankunamatata · 07/01/2024 21:45

I love both. I'd prob go for dishwasher. As you can get heated clothes rails and dehumidifiers or at a push have drier in bedroom

LaurieStrode · 07/01/2024 21:46

Tumble dryer without question.

We don't cook elaborate dishes so dishes can easily be washed in 10 minutes. I don't want clothing and bedding draped around my house getting the place all damp.

arethereanyleftatall · 07/01/2024 21:49

Right. I've read all the responses. I don't get it. I don't have a tumble drier, or a dehumidifier, or a heater rack, or mould. Or anything else that anyone has mentioned. I don't have the heating on much.

The washing machine washes. I hang clothes out on a rack thing (made of plastic) in the kitchen. Takes maybe 3-5mins. The next day they're dry and I fold them. Fold up the rack thing and put it back in the cupboard.

TheDogsMother · 07/01/2024 21:49

Dishwasher every day. I should say we don't have kids and do have an amazing clothes drying airing cupboard. Also have a condenser washer dryer for fluffing towels. I can't stand dishes piling up in the sink though.

Beautiful3 · 07/01/2024 22:00

I have both..I never use my.dishwasher anymore as it tales too.long rinsing and stacking. It.takes half.an hour to.wash, then I.see loads of dirty things that I.end up.washing by hand. I'd never get another one.again. I love my tumble.dryer. It's fantastic during the winter and on a rainy day. It.makes.my. towels fluffy too. Tumble dryer is the winner here.

whyalltheusernames · 07/01/2024 22:08

Tumble drier. Just bought myself a new one as mine broke last winter. I'm happy to hang outside for as long as possible but when it's raining and the washing/drying is piling up and you just have a clothes airer and a few radiators to hang stuff on its stressful.
Dishes can be done in the sink. I always wonder about dishwashers and rinsing all the plates first, surely you may aswel just wash them 🤷🏻‍♀️

Newnameformoneyadvice · 07/01/2024 22:09

Dishwasher

Tumble dryer without a doubt.

The kids are the "dishwashers" 😁

This is me.
Takes me 5 mins to wash the pots.
I'd be lost without my tumble 😁

thatneverhappened · 07/01/2024 22:11

Well, instant reaction is dishwasher but... if I lined in a house with just night storage heaters and no garden I might feel different

TammyJones · 07/01/2024 22:13

Inyourwildestdreams · 07/01/2024 20:37

Tumble drier without a shadow of a doubt. Wouldn’t even cross my mind to get a dishwasher!!

Our last house had a dishwasher and I still didn’t know how to switch it on 7 years later when we sold the house 😂😂

Ha ha
We had one at a new house/ already there.
Had to bend ti fill it - took ages to wash.
In the end we took it out.
Put the washing machine in its place and made the utility room into a spacious boot and cloak room.

OldTinHat · 07/01/2024 22:14

Dishwasher! 100%

michaelmasdaisies · 07/01/2024 22:15

Dishwasher and a dehumidifier for the clothes.

TheKeatingFive · 07/01/2024 22:20

I always wonder about dishwashers and rinsing all the plates first

Wonder no more. You don't need to do this.

Inlimoin50s · 07/01/2024 22:21

Tumble dryer.

Pasadenadreaming · 07/01/2024 22:21

I would really hate to be without the dishwasher - over Christmas it's been on at least twice a day, and the thought of how long the washing up would take by hand fills me with horror.

But....even though I only use the tumble dryer a few times a week, and rarely in the summer, the thought of not being able to quickly dry things like sheets and duvet covers is a lot worse, especially if you have a kid who has thrown up on their bedding or something. So overall I'd go for the tumble dryer.

NashvilleQueen · 07/01/2024 22:22

Dishwasher 100%.

You can hang up clothes and leave them. Washing up is a few times a day and can't be left. It's actually never ending
