If you could only choose one, which would you choose a tumble or a dishwasher.
context: single parent with x3 kids 11-7yrs

I'd say dishwasher unless you have a baby (rather than your big kids I mean).

Babies get through so many outfit changes a day (aaargh we are in the thick of it atm), so a tumble dryer helps with that.

Whereas older kids (I mean even my 3yo) snacks so much so we get through like a dozen plates a day, but she can sometimes wear the same clothes two days in a row. So, dishwasher.

We have both thankfully

Def tumble dryer every time. The kids can do the dishes

Nowtbettertodo · 07/01/2024 20:52

Tumble drier.

My dishwasher has been broken for 3 years and have managed without it. If my tumble dryer broke I would have to get it repaired/replaced immediately!

3 kids is a lot of clothes to get dry!

Donahelen · 07/01/2024 20:55

I would 100% go with the Tumble dryer! The kids can muck in with the washing up :)

HamHand · 07/01/2024 20:57

We had to make this decision when we moved and we just couldn’t lose the drier. We did miss the dish washer at first but now just suck it up. There’s no way we could manage without the drier, I hate damp washing hanging around.

CrushingOnRubies · 07/01/2024 20:58

Tumble dryer! Every single time

YoullCatchYourDeathInTheFog · 07/01/2024 20:58

Dishwasher, but I'd walk round my home with a tape measure in search of any spare sixty centimetre space I could fit a condenser tumble dryer in.

DinosaurPotato · 07/01/2024 20:59

Dishwasher!

You don't need a tumble drier, just get a dehumidifier. Dries stuff so quickly, stays smelling fresh. Our dishwasher broke recently and it was miserable.

Fedupandconfused0815 · 07/01/2024 21:00

I have both. I could, at a push, cope with a dishwasher but I would not want to give up the tumble dryer esp with a few kids.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 07/01/2024 21:00

Get a washer dryer and then you still have space for a dishwasher. Win win

BassoContinuo · 07/01/2024 21:00

Dishwasher and get a washer dryer

greenacrylicpaint · 07/01/2024 21:00

dishwasher every time.
much more economical.

Upwiththelark76 · 07/01/2024 21:00

Tumble dryer. Unless you want loads of damp tank smelling washing all over your house

SecondUsername4me · 07/01/2024 21:01

We went from a house with neither and moved into a house with both. The dishwasher broke about 3 years ago and we've never replaced it, but I'd be bereft without the dryer.

We do live in an area with a lot of rain though.

Maicon · 07/01/2024 21:01

Depends on how many kids but dryer wins every time for me

Timeturnerplease · 07/01/2024 21:02

Tumble dryer and countertop mini dishwasher.

MySlipperAdiction · 07/01/2024 21:03

Tumble dryer hands down and your eldest is definitely capable of learning to wash up, the younger ones can clear a table and bring everything through, wipe the table down and dry it. Good for cross body activity especially for the youngest. Rubber gloves for the eldest to be able to have hotter water. Items that cannot be smashed can be dried up by the younger ones.

Remember in school they have to clear their own food trays etc.

Talipesmum · 07/01/2024 21:03

Depends how much drying space you have. I’d go large capacity washer dryer (we’ve had one for years and it’s great) and a heated airer, plus dishwasher.

squirrelnutkin10 · 07/01/2024 21:03

Dishwasher every time

goingtotown · 07/01/2024 21:04

Tumble dryer

TheTripThatWasnt · 07/01/2024 21:05

Dishwasher every single time. Clothes can be dried on an airer (or outside in the summer).

But I'm one of those people who commits the ultimate MN sin of wearing clothes more than once, so my washing is manageable (although there is a LOT of gym/running kit getting washed). If you/your kids are wearing things once and then washing them, then I'd cut down on washing and definitely get a disshwasher!

googledidnthelp · 07/01/2024 21:05

Tumble dryer definitely for me
We don't have a dish washer and havent for 10 years.

menopausalmare · 07/01/2024 21:06

Dishwasher! I only use our tumble drier 1-2 times a week to fluff up cardboard towels that have air dried.

2024please · 07/01/2024 21:06

Tumble dryer. In fact mine's just broken so am currently researching whether to get another vented one, or try a condenser one this time.

I cannot be doing with wet washing hanging around the house.

CranfordScones · 07/01/2024 21:06

Personally: Tumble Drier.

It's a pain to dry things sometimes in winter and you don't have to use it if you have somewhere to hang things outside the rest of the time, or when it's not urgent.

Never had a dishwasher and don't have a problem with washing dishes by hand.
