new Quality Street wrappers moan

garlicandsapphires · 16/12/2023 16:25

I know this is a truly fatuous thing to mither about, but I am grumpy about the new Quality Streets eco wrappers.
Generally I am all in favour of reducing single use plastic, but the old wrappers were so Christmassy. They SMELT of pure Christmas, and it made my annual QS audit a joy.
Now I can't do my audit because the wrappers are ALL WRONG.

AND the crispy orange and green triangle are no more!!

AIBU? (I'm not)

The old wrappers were only biodegradable at home and not kerbside collections. Most people therefore just put them in landfill

Foil is recyclable, just ball it up and put it with other cans etc

Can you put it in a tin with the top squashed or does it need to be loose?

Anyone else try to swipe the hair off?

LittleBearPad · 16/12/2023 18:04

let's deal with the fact they've done away with the crunch orange one and the triangle

@Pinkpinkpink15 no they haven’t. Lots in the tin I bought.

@LittleBearPad

thank you, such a relief. Though if I buy a tin that doesn't have any I'll be gutted!

their balance/distribution is clearly a right muck up, I blame the wrappers!!

DieuEtMonTwat · 16/12/2023 19:11

the opening of the tin, the wrappers glinting like jewels in the Christmas tree lights, I'm right back in 1974

Snap! I also used to make paper houses and use the wrappers as stained glass windows.

Was wondering what you were on about then, until I took a closer look 😆

Well I was pleased. No need for individual plastic wrappers. And there are green triangles. And you can get a lovely metal tin from John Lewis that has your name on and refill it yourself every year (or several times a year) from their refill stations. Or you can get the pouches....for reference you need 3 pouches to fill the proper tin!

@Cnidarian

i got all excited, but the big stores near me aren't included. Bummer. Might need to train it up to London.

Pinkpinkpink15 · 16/12/2023 19:20

does anyone have a photo of the 2023 Tim or know the cost?

In total agreement! We got given a box at work and as soon as I saw them I was like wtf is this? They look cheap and the tub was barely full.

I miss the quality streets of my childhood, the big tins, the shiny wrappers but most importantly the coffee creams that haven't been in there for years. They were my favourite.

@Pickingmyselfup

they are available from John Lewis & Waitrose this year. I think it was in the crackers!

Sirian · 16/12/2023 19:24

I read the OP and had a huge panic, rushed upstairs to check my tub and thankfully there are green triangles and orange crunches? OP you shouldn’t scare people like that!

HaddawayAndShite · 16/12/2023 18:07

God it really is disappointing to see people care more about how some chocolates look, rather than the impact it has environmentally. Mind you, if you’re buying Nestle you probably don’t care that much about the planet anyway.

@HaddawayAndShite

oh dear, I bet you're a bundle of laughs at Christmas.

interested to know how old you are? You probably think nostalgia is a virus.

Mercury2702 · 16/12/2023 19:28

I’m a nurse and of course we get boxes all the time and when we opened a box a few weeks ago we said exactly the same 😂

Pinkpinkpink15 · 16/12/2023 19:36

Thejewellershands · 16/12/2023 17:22

Literally just bought some tonight and was so disappointed when I opened them

@Thejewellershands

thank you for sharing, I shall brace myself for the disappointment.

i hope they brace themselves for next years losses. People will buy them this year to see what they're like, but I bet sales plummet like a rock iver a cliff next year.

theyd have been FAR FAR better off coming up with a scheme to recycle the fool.

People suggesting putting it out with the cans are probably going to be responsible for fucking up machines at recycling centres. You are only supposed to put tin can lids in if you put them inside the can & squish the can closed it the block the machines.

Marleymoo42 · 16/12/2023 19:38

The old ones were great for kids craft. How are we going to make stained glass windows now??!

The pouches are more expensive per 100g than the (recyclable) tubs.

Anyway, I'm not buying them this year. They tasted like cheap crap and now they look the part too.

My reusable tin is filled with shiny Lindor and Heroes.

user284246975787632445 · 16/12/2023 17:56

Were people basically just buying these for the wrappers rather than the chocolate?

Do they even need to be individually wrapped? Ditching the wrappers completely would be more eco friendly.

@user284246975787632445

yes, they do need to be individually wrapped.

1 they're a pass around tin.
2.a slight bit if heat & you'd end up with a right mess

stepintochristmas1 · 16/12/2023 19:54

I felt it was important for kids development to spend many hours looking through the wrappers of QS .

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 16/12/2023 20:00

They're shit now. They used to look like jewels. Christmassy, Christmassy jewels.

I am going have to try to find some replacement chocolates that are still shiny.

I agree, they’re crap.

What do you mean about tins? My council says to put lids in tins but if I don't squash the tin it will just fall out.

Gone are the days when you used to be able to hold them up to your eyes and see the world in pink or yellow

Travesty

PurBal · 16/12/2023 20:11

We used to do Christmas crafts with the wrappers as kids. Massive part of Christmas joy.

I used to do this too ,keep a big tin with wrappers . Even when they were really really young they still got something out of just sticking the wrappers onto just a bit of paper .Oh how I miss those days .
