new Quality Street wrappers moan

garlicandsapphires · 16/12/2023 16:25

I know this is a truly fatuous thing to mither about, but I am grumpy about the new Quality Streets eco wrappers.
Generally I am all in favour of reducing single use plastic, but the old wrappers were so Christmassy. They SMELT of pure Christmas, and it made my annual QS audit a joy.
Now I can't do my audit because the wrappers are ALL WRONG.

AND the crispy orange and green triangle are no more!!

AIBU? (I'm not)

Were people basically just buying these for the wrappers rather than the chocolate?

Do they even need to be individually wrapped? Ditching the wrappers completely would be more eco friendly.

No, we won't.

We want those a beautiful stained glass like shiny see through wrappers!

I refuse to buy Quality Street now.

Pinkpinkpink15 · 16/12/2023 17:57

Back up the bus!!!

I haven't RTR because I'm too stressed!!

im with you with the wrappers, but let's deal with the fact they've done away with the crunch orange one and the triangle.

I need confirmation please!

I still haven't bought any yet, sitting on the fence because of the wrappers, but if there aren't any crunchy orange (by far the best!!) I can get off the fence!

Tisfortired · 16/12/2023 17:58

I know what you mean but I think the paper wrappers look quite nice. And we have crunchy orange and green triangles in our (2 😳) tubs.

DRS1970 · 16/12/2023 17:58

I think they are cool, I always hate throwing plastic wrappers in the landfill bin.

Thejewellershands · 16/12/2023 17:22

Literally just bought some tonight and was so disappointed when I opened them

Ugh, jeez.

They look like children's sweet or like Opal Fruits or Fruit-tellas. Not chocolatey at all.

No class.

Lindt for the win!

DieuEtMonTwat · 16/12/2023 17:59

Totally not unreasonable. I refuse to buy them now with their silly eco wrappers.

I've bought Cadburys Roses instead.

idontlikealdi · 16/12/2023 17:59

We're working our way through a tub of celebrations. The chocolates are about 25% smaller

The quality street wrappers have lost their
Joy.

MikeRafone · 16/12/2023 17:59

Protest & don’t buy them.

LarkLane · 16/12/2023 18:01

I opened a box last night. I was really disappointed.
I make little Christmas cardboard houses with the DGC. No shiny cellophane coloured wrappers to cover the windows and light up. How sad!

I bought Cadbury's Miniature Heroes and Celebrations instead.

@Pinkpinkpink15 no they haven’t. Lots in the tin I bought.

ElBandito · 16/12/2023 18:05

I don't understand. The old wrappers were cellulose not plastic, so they were biodegradable. Is it the foil they are trying to remove?

@YachtMistress

Nope, I won't 'stop it' or get used to it. I'm 54, they're as much 'Christmas' as Santa.

i remember when the tins were huge and passing them around the extended family was so exciting, getting to see if one of your favourites was still there!

Good memories of our family before the numbers have dwindled so badly.

the opening of the tin, the wrappers glinting like jewels in the Christmas tree lights, I'm right back in 1974.

ita a teeny/tiny amount of plastic. There are millions of things that could go before QS wrappers!

YOU might get used to it, I do/don't do things that are better for the reduction in plastic that you do/don't do.

Evening the U.K. sank it wouldn't make any difference to climate change, give me back my wrappers!

im heartened to hear some others have crunchy orange & green triangles. Clearly they don't distribute as well in shitty wrappers!!

MikeRafone · 16/12/2023 18:07

I’ve made my own chocolates this year, QS was always a bit sweet but it’s got sweeter and sicklier over the last 10 years. I can eat them any longer as they get stuck in my throat. Galaxy chocolate is the same, I used to buy a bar occasionally and then it got that it’s cloy and gets stuck in my throat - unpleasant

HaddawayAndShite · 16/12/2023 18:07

God it really is disappointing to see people care more about how some chocolates look, rather than the impact it has environmentally. Mind you, if you’re buying Nestle you probably don’t care that much about the planet anyway.

Candycurrantbun · 16/12/2023 18:08

They are very dull and boring. Bring back the shiney!

But they were cellulose, not plastic. They were biodegradable. It's the foil that was the problem, why not replace the foil with paper and keep the cellulose bit?

Riverlee · 16/12/2023 18:10

I agree.

The old shiney, glossy wrappers felt luxurious and special - these feel a bit dull.

Pickingmyselfup · 16/12/2023 18:11

In total agreement! We got given a box at work and as soon as I saw them I was like wtf is this? They look cheap and the tub was barely full.

I miss the quality streets of my childhood, the big tins, the shiny wrappers but most importantly the coffee creams that haven't been in there for years. They were my favourite.

Cnidarian · 16/12/2023 18:12

Well I was pleased. No need for individual plastic wrappers. And there are green triangles. And you can get a lovely metal tin from John Lewis that has your name on and refill it yourself every year (or several times a year) from their refill stations. Or you can get the pouches....for reference you need 3 pouches to fill the proper tin!

milesmachine · 16/12/2023 18:12

The old wrappers were only biodegradable at home and not kerbside collections. Most people therefore just put them in landfill

Foil is recyclable, just ball it up and put it with other cans etc

oakleaffy · 16/12/2023 18:19

Greenpolkadot · 16/12/2023 16:31

Those wrappers were like jewels in a dish..all shiney and Christmassy
And they smelled luscious..
It's a sad day

Agreed...Used to love them as a child. Looking through the coloured cellophane , and how pretty it made everything look.
The purple ones! Lovely.

AgnesX · 16/12/2023 18:20

Everything's changed and not for the better...like the Roses wrappers, now Quality St and all the flavours, Kit Kat's, the size of the chocs in the Black Magic box.....

And the lovely tins...proper tins... sigh Just love a bit of nostalgia.
