new Quality Street wrappers moan

garlicandsapphires · 16/12/2023 16:25

I know this is a truly fatuous thing to mither about, but I am grumpy about the new Quality Streets eco wrappers.
Generally I am all in favour of reducing single use plastic, but the old wrappers were so Christmassy. They SMELT of pure Christmas, and it made my annual QS audit a joy.
Now I can't do my audit because the wrappers are ALL WRONG.

AND the crispy orange and green triangle are no more!!

AIBU? (I'm not)

What do the wrappers look like? I’ve not seen them yet

Sequinne · 16/12/2023 17:19

YANBU

They have lost their magic. Yes, I know, I know, better for the environment..but they look abit shit now don’t they and there’s definitely less in the box.

This

Oh! That's an abomination 😡

ZiggyZowie · 16/12/2023 17:21

Green triangle is smaller now

Thejewellershands · 16/12/2023 17:22

Literally just bought some tonight and was so disappointed when I opened them

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 16/12/2023 17:24

That looks very disappointing @Thejewellershands . And only one green triangle !

ThisHouseWillBeTheDeathOfMe · 16/12/2023 17:25

We bought a little share bag of them. Opened and both went "wtf is this?"

PP has it exactly right. They were bright shiny jewels, on every household table, from childhood right through to now. Holding up the wrappers in front of your eyes, to make the tree lights look a different colour.

I won't buy them again. It's actually really sad. I don't even like the chocolates that much, it was all about the nostalgia.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 16/12/2023 17:26

Completely agree. Quality Street shiny wrappers meant Christmas!
Very disappointing now .

HonoriaLucastaDelagardie · 16/12/2023 17:26

Green triangle is smaller now

I was just going to say that green triangle in the pic looks titchy!

JustOneMoreBaileys · 16/12/2023 17:28

The new wrappers are much sadder. I haven't bothered getting any this year.

It does seem odd there isn't an option for shiny and recyclable.

PuppyPerson · 16/12/2023 17:30

I get that they needed to move to a wrapper that was easily recyclable.
What irks me is why did they not choose foil for them all? Foil is still shiny and fun, and everyone recycles foil surely?
I'm sure they researched it all, maybe it would have still ended up with loads of foil wrappers in landfill and paper is the best option.
Which leads me to the ultimate irk - what they have designed is so ugly! The colours are crap and the design is just crap!

milesmachine · 16/12/2023 17:31

I know this is supposed to be lighthearted but honestly... 3bn pieces of plastic removed from landfill (just looked it up) and replaced with vegetable based coated paper (hence colours aren't so bright) and a fully recyclable tub that can go into your usual recycling

Yes, what an abomination...(getting hard hat ready)

Wishitsnows · 16/12/2023 17:32

It’s quite a sad looking box when you open them now. I was so disappointed. They use to feel special to eat at Christmas. I can’t imagine the environment will be saved by this change.

Wishitsnows · 16/12/2023 17:34

I bet they did it as it’s cheaper for them to produce and claim it really is for recycling rather than more profit

LutonBeds · 16/12/2023 17:35

We got the massive tin, or the ‘always used to be this size’ as I’ve named it. Some are in the new wrapping, some still shiny foil 🤔

Be better off going for the wrapping on cucumbers and such in supermarkets than a little joy in a chocolate box.

DrFoxtrot · 16/12/2023 17:38

At least the different chocolates still have different shapes. With Roses, all the wrappers are nearly the same and I have to concentrate hard to work out which is which.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 16/12/2023 17:40

They've literally had the shine taken off of them 😔

Raincloudsonasunnyday · 16/12/2023 17:41

@Thejewellershands was that as full as the tin came? Or had you already eaten half before you took that photo? Shocking if the former!

Can you put tiny bits of foil in the big recycling bin? Are small amounts of metal in landfill a problem like plastic is?

Helendegenerate · 16/12/2023 17:46

Just about all chocolates have shrunk in size over the last few years ( and the green triangle QS is tiny now yes) There were 5 in my tin though.

We've been conned over and over. Paying more for less. If I could give up chocolate I would. 😐

We have eaten about 7 or 8 so it was a bit fuller but definitely not half a tin

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 16/12/2023 17:51

I was saying the same thing to DH this week, they look so sad now in their non foil, non Christmassy smelling sad little paper wrappers 😢

Mumsnut · 16/12/2023 17:51

Think how much landfill will be saved when no one buys them any more

shamelesss · 16/12/2023 17:52

You can buy huge tins at Costco for £12
