Do you find this offensive like I do and would you comment on it?

Shared by an elderly friend of my mum’s on Facebook. I find it offensive but I’m debating whether it’s worth the hassle of saying so.

It’s certainly not kind, it’s condescending and misogynistic. I’ve known her my whole life and I’ve never seen her be unkind before, actually she did my mum a great kindness many years ago, so I’m not looking to be confrontational or mean.

I just think shit like this being unchallenged makes the world a little bit worse off every day.

Social media is a really bad place to have discussions about things like this. It strips all nuance and empathy out of conversations and everyone ends up feeling bad.

Today in ‘what objects are women?’, we’re… Minerals!

YANBU for thinking this is grim, paternalistic, sexist, twee, tripe. That said I would absolutely not respond on Facebook because the only possible outcome of that would be a slow descent into absolute insanity, and you don’t deserve that.

Mute her posts, give yourself a pat on the back for not being such a schmuck, and move on.

If you know her well enough, then privately message her to say that sharing stuff like that isn't at all helpful.

Leave it. She’s a product of her time.

If you must, take it up in person. Not online.

I'd be tempted to just say 'what a load of shit' but in reality I'd probably leave it. If she's read that and thought it was ok to post then you'd be fighting a losing battle.

Why even give things like this any headspace? You can’t argue with stupid.

I see a lot of those ‘We drank from a hose and played out till the streetlights came on and it didn’t do us no harm’ type of posts from people and I just roll my eyes. Nothing you can do about it, it’ll just cause an argument.

People share all sorts of shit on social media without a single thought of what it means or how it affects others. You can make a comment but do you think it will make any difference?

Always amazes me when people have an issue with the lass just minding her business and wearing some shorts and not the creep that took a picture of her ass and plastered it all over social media 🙄

I've challenged people on this on SM before and you always feel like a dick, so I'd not bother. I sometimes still can't help myself when a particular family come on with Brexit related stuff but I've learnt to pick my battles. Hope you can get it out of your system here!

How does she feel about women from other religions covering up?

If this is her opinion then she's allowed it and free to say what she feels about it, regardless of how much you, me and millions disagree and see that it's unhelpful and a load of shit.

If you need to say something at least do it privately because commenting will just blow it up more than it needs to be.

I think I'd point out the irony of the "Daily Dose of Kindness" for starters and suggest renaming it "Daily Dose of Hoik Up Those Judgy Pants"

That is truly bloody awful, but not worth responding to or thinking about.
I mean, it's not just wrong, the whole post is so cringeworthy and unrelated to how real people have ever actually behaved that it's laughable.

I kind of feel a bit sorry for women who are sold on this. She was raised to believe and be controlled by this crap, whereas we can laugh at or pity the women who try perpetuate the mindset.

It's a big pile of woman-controlling crap. Strange that no-one feels the need to remind men with their tops off in summer 'Men, you are valuable (but only when your assets are covered up'.

She is allowed to post it, share it etc. and it's useful that you know know this is how she feels about it.

Best thing you can do is ignore it - not react to it in any way. Your silence will convey a message that you don't like it and are not willing to 'share' it.

There are things on social media that are far more concerning than this, things that, dig slighting past the surface are clearly scams for example, have words about those, not something that honesty is t worth getting upset about

Agree with this. I deactivated in 2020 and popped back on quickly a few weeks ago to look some information for an event. Up popped the "locals" page and I immediately was reminded why I came off. Moaning, lots of comments about "snowflakes" and "woke" peppered with a few bits slagging off immigrants. Lovely. Looked up my info and deactivated again.

It's patronising, misogynistic garbage but I don't think its effect on the world will be offset by you confronting an elderly woman over it.
