Shared by an elderly friend of my mum’s on Facebook. I find it offensive but I’m debating whether it’s worth the hassle of saying so.

It’s certainly not kind, it’s condescending and misogynistic. I’ve known her my whole life and I’ve never seen her be unkind before, actually she did my mum a great kindness many years ago, so I’m not looking to be confrontational or mean.

I just think shit like this being unchallenged makes the world a little bit worse off every day.

Why do I suspect @headachy58 is a man? Refering to young women as females and saying that a young woman wearing short shorts is in any way linked to her morality is completely ridiculous. Hmm

LakeTiticaca · 29/11/2023 17:18

Walking around with yoir arse hanging out is going to invite comment , like it or not

Modesty is a thing. Men are called to be modest, too. Like, not showing off an amazing gym bod etc.

How someone dresses does also often tend to reflect their wider behaviour and values. You wouldn't get Girl Defined or Classically Abby wearing Daisy Dukes :)

LOL at reputable mining company.

Talk about stretching the metaphor.

The people doing it like it, that is the whole point, let`s face it being seen and getting attention is VERY important to young women and guys, it seems very pronounced now due to all the nonsense they soak up from social media but this is a normal drive to seek attention, the absolute worst thing for a person with shorts sticking in their bum crack all day is if NO ONE notices or comments, that would be absolutely hellish for them!

@headachy58 I don't think much mainstream media portrays that. Everyone knows how Instagram etc are effecting young women (on top of how young people have acted for decades.)

Cherrysoup · 29/11/2023 17:28

Why have you got a friend of your mum’s on social media? Just block her/snooze her on a permanent.

ClaireEclair · 29/11/2023 17:28

I would probably give it a laughing emoji or comment “what a load of shit”.

One problem though is if everyone is doing it, then no one really notices or cares any more, and the people who are really needy for attention have to develop even more outlandish behaviour to get their fix, it is a race to the bottom so to speak as each iteration of the behaviour just gets ignored more and more, the best way to impress people is to develop a dynamic personality.

For some reason the media is in denial, not quite sure why.

Christ what a load of bollocks. 😂
Just ignore it and keep an eye on how many "likes " she gets.

FigAndOlive · 29/11/2023 17:39

No, I don’t find it offensive at all. I happen to sort of agree with her opinions (not the cheesy metaphor, though 😂), but even if I didn’t, she simply posted her opinion on her facebook in a polite manner, it would be something else if she was calling other women sluts, whores, or saying they shouldn’t be allowed to dress however they like. I also wouldn’t comment because nothing good would come out it, but you’re certainly entitled to comment and disagree politely if you wish. I’m in the camp that it’s possible to be friends/like/hang out with people with different opinions as long as there’s respect and not hipersensibility and histeria.

@SapphireSeptember The media portrays that all young females are scared to walk the streets and don't like attention drawing to themselves and are all frightened little flowers.. in my experience females behave the exact opposite including the female in the image..🙄

I'm guessing both of you are trying to say if that a woman is wearing something revealing they are asking to be attacked or raped? Also curious as to how you know the "behaviour" of the woman in the image? You know what she likes to wear but it's your own brain making up the rest.

Hellokittymania · 29/11/2023 17:43

I’m not offended, and having lived in other parts of the world, some places are… Coming along in there or thinking regards to this. Not everywhere is as open as the UK, even places that might not seem they are as different on this.

I would leave it.

newusername2009 · 29/11/2023 17:46

I don’t think this is offensive at all

catwithnocream · 29/11/2023 17:47

Ask her if she wears jewellery or whether she's happy to parade her own precious minerals god meant to be kept covered?!

lljkk · 29/11/2023 17:47

I kind of appreciate the sentiment (appreciate yourself, don't sell yourself cheap, this isn't a complimentary look) even if the sentiment is badly expressed.

tldr: omg, aren't there more important things to get worked up about?

Wearing tight shorts doesnt mean you dont appreciate yourself, it fact it telegraphs "Look at Me, Im Hot!" LOL, the problem is that a lot of people are just not hot enough to walk around with sprayed on shorts, they just look ridiculous and telegraph "I am very very needy and dont understand the power of dressing to suit my body shape".
