How long is your school and nursery run in the morning ?

codfeemug · 21/11/2023 07:13

I leave the house at 7:45 and I'm not back until past 9 am.

It seems really long to me. All driving !

First I drop my son at a nearby nursery and then I do the bigger drive to my DD's preschool.

It's really tiring !

Just wanting to have a moan and understand if my school run is the norm ?

3 minute walk door to door

Ostryga · 21/11/2023 07:15

Gosh I can understand the need for a moan! We leave at 8:30 and I’m back by 8:45/8:50 usually.

Things will get easier when they’re both at the same school, it’s just this bit is horrible.

DontGoGran · 21/11/2023 07:15

10 minutes in bad traffic to nursery, school will be about a 5/10 minute walk depending on which one DDs go to.

justlikebuses · 21/11/2023 07:16

Leave at 8.10, drop boys to theirs in a village then DD to hers 5 minutes from home. Home or work by 9.

3 minute walk door to door

Slightly less, about 2 minutes.

But nursery was a 40 minute round trip. It was attached to DH's work so initially made sense but then in lockdown when we were both WFH it was a bit of a hassle. Was worth it to keep them settled though.

PomPomChatton · 21/11/2023 07:18

The best parenting stage yet is when they can walk themselves to school! I don't miss those school runs at all!

It's great having a tiny walk to the school. One of the main reasons we bought our house where it is - due to such close proximity to nursery and school (they are next to each other). Been doing this with four DC so prefer to be near as possible.

codfeemug · 21/11/2023 07:18

Pick up is pretty much as long too. It's good that I like driving!

If I drove it would be about 30-40 mins from leaving house to getting back home including settling her into nursery.

As it is I normally run using running buggy and then run onto work. It's about 45-50 mins all in. Which feels quite long. But car isn't possible / buses non existent and walking would be even longer so.....

Weirdly I'm glad it isn't me with a long drop off.

She could go to nearer nursery's but it's taken ages to settle her and so really dont want to move her...

Curiosity101 · 21/11/2023 07:20

We drop off at a childminder who lives next to the school and she does the school run for us. We leave around 8.20 and are home around 8.40 (car) or leave at 8.10 and home at 8.50 (walking).

Yours sounds brutal. As a one off that'd be fine, but 5 days a week every week 😬

veeolay · 21/11/2023 07:21

20 second drive to sons school, then 5 mins to the nursery for DC2. Then on to work.

Busyhedgehog · 21/11/2023 07:21

Takes about 40 minutes to get to DS's school. He went to nursery there, too. I don't drive back home, though. I work there, so it's easier.

BendingSpoons · 21/11/2023 07:21

Our morning school run is quicker. Leave 8.20, back 9.05. Afternoon takes longer as they have quite different pick up times so leave 2.50, home 3.55. But I walk/wait around. I'd find driving the school run here quite stressful due to the traffic and limited parking.

whitebreadjamsandwich · 21/11/2023 07:22

5 mins there and back in the car. A 12 minute walk.

Summermeadowflowers · 21/11/2023 07:22

That is really tiring. DS’s nursery is a half hour round trip. Preschool is about three minutes and was considering changing to just that (not for that reason but would have helped!)

NotyouGuillermo · 21/11/2023 07:25

Leave at 8:30 and back by 9. That includes a dog walk, it would be just over 5 minutes without.

PuttingDownRoots · 21/11/2023 07:25

Over the years...

Preschool DD1... left 8.40, home 9.15
School A... left 7.10, home 7.30 (bike)
School B... left 8.00 for bus, bus picked them up 8.10, I was home 8.15, they got to school 8.30ish.
School C... left 8.10, home 9.15. Then Covid led to staggered hours plus roadworks meant I was often not home to 10am or even later
School D... started as 5 minute round trip... now DD2 takes herself!!

NewLifter · 21/11/2023 07:25

I leave the house around 0820, drop off the DC at 0825, arrive in work around 0840. They walk home which takes them about 10 minutes.

juicelooseabootthishoose · 21/11/2023 07:25

Ten minute round trip by car. But we walk most days so 35 mins round trip then.

Girasoli · 21/11/2023 07:25

Just under half an hour round trip - walk both DC up to nursery (10/15min at 3 year olds pace) walk DS1 back to school (5/10mins) walk back home from school (5 mins).

distinctpossibility · 21/11/2023 07:26

DH takes to primary and it's either 45 minutes (20 mins each way plus 5 at school) on foot or about 25 minutes in the car. It's not on the way to anything as he wfh.

I take DD to secondary. It's a 9 minute walk. Unfortunately at the moment I have to stay at the school a lot longer than I'd like as she is struggling to go in in the mornings. Looking forward to her being able to go alone one day, for her sake and ours 😄

Foxrouge · 21/11/2023 07:26

That does seem long. Mine is 40 mins round trip if I walk, 10 if I drive. I choose to walk but it’s one of those things I’d have to give up if I had to work more hours.

Rjahdhdvd · 21/11/2023 07:27

That does seem long, mine used to be half an hour for one child (15 mins there and back) but now for 2 it’s about 45 mins but mainly because I come back and walk the second child

NameChange1019 · 21/11/2023 07:27

30 minutes ish if walking less than ten if driving (including the few minutes drop off in the nursery!

Sarasara1983 · 21/11/2023 07:27

I leave the house at 7.30, nursery at 8, get to work at 8.30!

leave work at 4.30. Nursery 5. Home 5.30.
2 hours a day!
