How long is your school and nursery run in the morning ?

codfeemug · 21/11/2023 07:13

I leave the house at 7:45 and I'm not back until past 9 am.

It seems really long to me. All driving !

First I drop my son at a nearby nursery and then I do the bigger drive to my DD's preschool.

It's really tiring !

Just wanting to have a moan and understand if my school run is the norm ?

I'm a big believer in making life as easy as possible for oneself so would chose a closer nursery/ school even if it wasn't the "best" one (which in itself is subjective of course).

Thankfully the primary is a 10 minute walk and the secondary one train stop away and walkable if necessary.

I choose to live in a big city partly for this reason.

pizzaHeart · 21/11/2023 18:05

Over years from 10 to 45 minutes if driving and walking, and up to 1hour 10 minutes just walking.

EmmaG78 · 21/11/2023 18:08

7.10am leave, back home (home office) about 8.55am.
Prior to September it was 8.10am leaving the house and 8.55am return.
2 different schools, totally opposite directions!

MonkeyPuddle · 21/11/2023 18:12

30 seconds each way to school as we live on the same street. DP takes DD to nursery on his way to work, it’s an extra 4 mins each way on his 8 min commute.

TrashPanda · 21/11/2023 18:15

Morning - leave 8am, drop eldest 8.15 then drop other 2 8.45, home by 9 to start work. There's 20 minutes waiting outside drop 2.
Afternoon - leave 2.50, pick up all 3.10 eldest walks to 2nd drop, home by 3.30

avocadotofu · 21/11/2023 18:22

We leave around 8:30 and I'm back a little after 9. We leave early because DS5 is slow and wants to pick up every little thing and takes ages.

BettyBakesCakes · 21/11/2023 18:32

That is long? Do you live rurally?

ThatsGoingToHurt · 21/11/2023 18:39

About 40 minutes at the moment.

Drive DD to school and drop to breakfast club (10/15 mins), then back in the car to drive DS to pre-school and drop and pre-school. Then drive home to start at 9am.

Before anyone replies moaning about me driving. DD is at school (nearest school) but there is no pre-school. DS has SEN so it’s difficult to find a nursery that would take him. In September both will be at the same school so I will have one drop off and one pick up. However, as DS has SEN he will not be going to the nearest school within walking distance as they have a shocking reputation for SEN and are generally going downhill (so I will move DD as well)

PestilencialCrisis · 21/11/2023 18:42

5 minutes each way. Or 15 if we have to stop and examine every leaf and twig and stone along the way.

ProfSleepzz · 21/11/2023 19:14

I can see my kids’ playground from the living room window. I estimate it’s approximately 30 seconds door to door! I bought the house for that reason.

TravellingT · 21/11/2023 19:32

5 children from <one year to 7 years old. 2 go to a primary school 1 hour from us- have to be there at 8:00am, so leave at 7am. 2 go to nursery half an hour from our home in the opposite direction, we get them there at 10:00 because I always stop off for coffee and breakfast at a drive-thru, and they eat their breakfast while we're stopped. I and youngest get home at 10:30 ish. Afternoons the school kids get picked up at 3, nursery kids by 4pm. Home by 4:30pm

Thankfully our nanny does the runs most days!

HiddenFridgeStash · 21/11/2023 19:48

I saw a TV programme once set I'm Australia where the children went to school on an aeroplane

Beezknees · 21/11/2023 19:58

Thankfully I'm past that. But it used to be 40 minutes (walking as I can't drive) then another 40 minute walk to work, repeat again in the afternoon. We'd leave the house at 7.30am and I'd be at work for 9.

Sunandsea26 · 21/11/2023 20:11

Half an hour round trip. Takes 5mins walking to get to DD2 preschool, wait for doors to open. Continue another few mins to DD1 school. wait in queue to drop off at door. Leave school gate and home within 1 minute. Next year when DD2 is at school it’ll be 10mins!! Love I don’t have to drive tho, was very important to me

Same! The playground backs onto our garden! Next year when they’re both there j will be loving life.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 21/11/2023 20:16

Depends on wether DS1 is on his bike. If he’s not i leave at 8am and am home for 8.40 (all driving). If I’m just takin DS2 and 3 then it’s 10 mins each way driving.
DS1 goes to grammar school. 2 and 3 are at local comp. Last year all three were in different school so took even longer!

Simonjt · 21/11/2023 20:36

Our eight year old walks himself to school, its about five minutes, but he manages to take ten. Nursery is at the same place, so on nursery days I have a five minute walk there and back, or my husband does.

Happilyobtuse · 21/11/2023 20:51

I drop at pre-school and school which are next to each other. Usually leave home at 8.25 am and back home at 9.05 am at the latest. I walk the kids down but if I took the car I would be back before 9am.

RosieGirl27 · 21/11/2023 20:55

I live in a village it’s over the road, I can see my children playing in the garden most days.

bakewellbride · 21/11/2023 20:56

We leave at 8:20 and home again 8:50/55

MrsRetriever · 21/11/2023 20:58

10 minute round trip. Leave at 8 if I’m in office or slightly later if working from home.

I love it. Starting school next year which will turn it into a half hour round trip (walking) and it will take a while to get used to.

letloz · 21/11/2023 21:27

Mine is probably a similar length if I went bk home rather than onto work after, school is about 15 mins away, then nursery half an hour in the other direction. But there was v little choice of nurseries when we looked around

Sodullincomparison · 21/11/2023 21:49

We leave at 7.10am get to school between 7.55 and 8.10am

leave around 5pm and get home between 6pm and 6.30pm depending on traffic

StillWantingADog · 21/11/2023 21:50

Blimey.
about 3 minutes (we live almost next door to school).
Previously it was 10-15 minutes before we moved

when we did nursery run that was def longer- about half a hour in the car

Orangesandsatsumas · 21/11/2023 21:58

M, T, Th - 8.15-8.50
W, F - 8.15- 9.15

next Year it will be more like 8-9 each day.
