How long is your school and nursery run in the morning ?

I leave the house at 7:45 and I'm not back until past 9 am.

It seems really long to me. All driving !

First I drop my son at a nearby nursery and then I do the bigger drive to my DD's preschool.

It's really tiring !

Just wanting to have a moan and understand if my school run is the norm ?

3 min walk - it’s so handy

AlltheFs · 21/11/2023 07:55

About 6 mins walking- nursery/school is about 2 mins walk away, 90 seconds if on my own. So including dropping off and getting back it’s about 6 minutes max.

Used to be over an hour by car though-I did 3 years of that so I know it’s hard!

NonSequentialRhubarb · 21/11/2023 07:57

It's about a 15 minute round trip in the car.

Our local school if we get in is 5 minutes away. Our next choice is about 30-40 minutes round trip in the car, but we'd be looking to move closer to it if we go there.

wizwand · 21/11/2023 07:58

20 mins - school 5 mins one direction and nursery 15 other way. Next September they'll both be at the school so just 5 mins. We moved here so we would be close to the school - I wanted an easy 11 years of school runs.

Londonrach1 · 21/11/2023 08:00

10 min walk or 2 min drive.

Pooooochi · 21/11/2023 08:00

By scooter, 5 mins.

At 4 year old dawdle pace - 10 mins there but i walk back home in about 3 mins.

Gemstonebeach · 21/11/2023 08:01

45 minutes from home to preschool to school to work.

WarningOfGails · 21/11/2023 08:02

Have varied over the years. Currently about a 5 minute walk for the round trip.

Stroopwaffels · 21/11/2023 08:02

My kids are too old for a school run, but when they were at nursery it was 5 minutes in the car, when they started school it was 2 minutes' walk as the school is literally across the road. Senior school they took themselves, about 15 minutes' walk.

Do you live very very rurally or something?

PrincessHoneysuckle · 21/11/2023 08:13

No nursery but 5 min drive to primary school

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 21/11/2023 08:15

On days i'm not in the office, then its a 15 min drive each way for nursery drop off, back home and then a 20min walk to and from DD's school.

When i'm in the office then its a 5 min drive to the school, and a 15min drive to the nursery

WeeSleekitCowrinTimrousBeastie · 21/11/2023 08:16

1 minute walk to the bus stop round the corner.

Wellhellooooodear · 21/11/2023 08:17

We live a 5 min walk from the school and kids walk themselves so nothing, it's very handy.

NatMoz · 21/11/2023 08:23

The nursery my DD goes to is a 2 min drive from my husband's work and maybe 5 mins drive in the car from our house.

He usually does the nursery run. I'm either wfh or if it's my office day I've left the house before anyone else has woken up!

So for him, leave the house at 8am, drop off at 8:05am and in work by 08:10?

When she's at school, it'll be a 10 minute walk on little legs.

TheDinnerDilemma · 21/11/2023 08:28

When my kids were at nursery and primary school, it sometimes took over an hour.

Now it’s just one at secondary school, 15 minutes!

Icannotbeit · 21/11/2023 08:30

1.6 miles walk to the school and 1.6 miles back
My partner passed his driving test in April though and is driving it a lot at the moment so 10 mins drive
He works 4pm-midnight shifts so is about in the mornings.
It was a right pain walking it every day when the weather is horrible

Oganesson118 · 21/11/2023 08:31

Leave the house about 8/8:05, drop daughter off at school about 8:20 and at my desk (or making myself a cup of tea!) about 8:40.

No it's just the preschool school we've chosen for DD is 6 miles away, which isn't actually that far but in the morning it's very congested so takes ages

Ds nursery is only 1.7 miles away but the school run traffic is horrendous and it can be 20 mins each way in the car in the morningplus drop off time. Pick up at 3.30 is equally as bad as parking is horrendous and its next to 2 secondary schools, but I usually park at a tesco down the road and walk the last bit (the whole journey is about half an hour on foot each way if walking all the way). I can't wait until he starts school next September as his catchment school is about 150m from our house so it will mean 6 years of no school runs!

babythreeincoming · 21/11/2023 09:08

4 minutes to one nursery and then 3 minutes from there to the other x

Pascha · 21/11/2023 09:12

If I have to take Ds1 to secondary school I leave at 7.55, drop him off around 8.20 then by 8.40 at ds2s primary school and home or work by 9am.

That's rare though, usually I drop Ds1 to the bus stop which is a 15 min round trip at 7.30, then 15 mins for Ds2 at 8.30

Fluffyc1ouds · 21/11/2023 09:13

Mine takes 15 mins on the days I'm working from home and not shooting straight off to the office.

Yours does sound fairly normal with a few drop offs though and I have friends in the same position with a school and nursery drop-off to take care of. How long until both kids are at the same school? The mornings will become much easier!

DrunkenKoala · 21/11/2023 09:13

Leave at 8.20, home for about 8.55. But I do take the slightly longer walk home to get my steps in, otherwise it home for 8.50.

lunaticfringer · 21/11/2023 09:14

5 min walk through the park. It's wonderful.

SouthEastCoast · 21/11/2023 09:16

Kids are older now but their primary was a 22 minute drive, I nearly always went on to work from there so don’t have a round trip figure. I did later take one of my children to a college 45 minutes away and drive him twice a week until I realised my fuel cost me more than the expensive bus.
