How long is your school and nursery run in the morning ?

codfeemug · 21/11/2023 07:13

I leave the house at 7:45 and I'm not back until past 9 am.

It seems really long to me. All driving !

First I drop my son at a nearby nursery and then I do the bigger drive to my DD's preschool.

It's really tiring !

Just wanting to have a moan and understand if my school run is the norm ?

10 minute drive. We recently moved and I did prefer walking but it's too far now and up a steep hill. That's 10 minutes there btw, I work on the same street as the school so no homeward journey until the afternoon.

elliejjtiny · 21/11/2023 09:17

Ours is about the same length as yours OP. Leave at 7:50 take ds2 and ds3 to breakfast club. Back at 8:10, take ds1 to college in opposite direction. Back at 8:40-8:50 depending on traffic and take ds4 and ds5 to school. Home at about 9:00.

MaryShelley1818 · 21/11/2023 09:17

Today - left house at 8.30, dropped DD2 off at private nursery, then DS off at school and back home for 8.50.

Cincinnatus · 21/11/2023 09:20

45 mins. I leave earlier than I need to but I do that for my own convenience.

Namechange13101 · 21/11/2023 09:20

10 min drive to nursery, then 5 min drive back towards home for school then 5 minutes back home if working from home, or 11 minute drive from school to work if in the office so very lucky!

verabarbleen · 21/11/2023 09:20

Leave at 8.40 (walking) sons school
Opposite my house so I would be back by 8.50 but on preschool days I need to walk a bit further so back by 9.10

Allfur · 21/11/2023 09:21

Walk or cycle, chose school for that reason

That was your only criteria?

Less than 30 mins. If we walk it’s out the house by 8:33 and back by 9:02.
if I drive we leave at 8:45, I’m back by 9am

WhamBamThankU · 21/11/2023 09:28

It used to take an hour round trip, but now it's 10 minutes! I don't envy the drivers as parking round school is horrific.

StrawberryPavlova · 21/11/2023 09:28

I have a 4 year old old at preschool and a 12 year old in year 7. We all leave the house at 7:30, I drop 4 year old off at a childminder who takes her to nursery and then I drop the older one at a friend's house and they walk to school together. Then I either go back home or to the office, depends where I'm working that day. If I'm working from home, I'm normally out and back by 8am.

Moominy · 21/11/2023 09:34

That does sound like a drag.

When 1 of mine was at pre school & my other one / two were in school it used to be an hour's round trip (leaving at 8am) but that was walking and included waiting 20 mins for school to open after the pre school drop off (not fun in the winter/rain).

Now they're all at school it's easier (and a later start) and takes around 45 mins total but that is walking so I'd guess it'd be maybe 30 mins if driving, taking into account the horrendous traffic.

I hope it gets easier for you!

My dc go to the nearest schools/college. None are within walking distance. We were lucky that our nearest college was offering the subject ds1 wanted to do as our next nearest college would have added 30 minutes to the school run.

RockahulaRocks · 21/11/2023 09:49

1 minute walk to nursery (end of road), 5 mins walk to primary school. Complete luck, we moved here before DD arrived and I remember being concerned that proximity to nursery/school might be a pain in the bum with respect to noise & parking.

afrikat · 21/11/2023 09:51

Oof that's alot OP

We are 5 minutes walk from primary so 10 minutes round trip

Blueshinemoon · 21/11/2023 09:52

School is a 3 minute walk, nursery 5 minute walk from school. I purposely moved somewhere where school and nursery were in walking distance as my mum spent years ferrying us to and from school, hours in the car each day, and I didn’t want to do that.

MissCalamity · 21/11/2023 10:01

3 minutes drive, or a 13 minute walk.
I have it quite easy, plus only do it once a week!

App13 · 21/11/2023 10:08

Leave at 720 am back at 815am

Caterina99 · 21/11/2023 11:30

Ours is currently amazing. We live rurally and closest school is more than 3 miles away, so now they’re both in primary school rather than nursery, they get the school bus which comes past the end of our road! So about a 1 min walk for me, although I suppose when you count having to wait for the bus, the whole process takes about 5/10 min at 8.30.

(previously though it was about a 10 min drive, plus hanging about time etc, usually worked out 25-30 min round trip for me)

TheGoogleMum · 21/11/2023 11:35

Sounds like the preschool is too far away? Couldn't the okde rone just stay at nursery make it easier? I'd that the nearest school?
DDs nursery was approx 5min drive and on my way to work. Her school is more like a 10min drive but not on the way, I'm usually out the house just under half an hour

piscofrisco · 21/11/2023 11:40

If it's my DD's, to two local
Schools it's an hour and a quarter round trip) It's not far but the traffic is awful.

If it's for DSS's we leave at 06.55 and I get back at 09.45. So just short of 3 hours. (Thanks so much Dh's ex wife for moving in with her new boyfriend an hour and 15 minutes away and to family court for thinking that school run is reasonable for us to do 3 times a week)

tennesseewhiskey1 · 21/11/2023 11:42

5 mins for son, 7 mins for daughter - both walking.

Boating123 · 21/11/2023 11:44

I only do the pick up in the afternoon. I leave at 2:45 and I usually get back at around 3:40. It doesn't feel too bad though because I have a 20 minute walk in the middle so it's not all driving.

Caspianberg · 21/11/2023 11:46

About 30 mins round trip. Aim to leave 8am, drop by 8.15am, and head back by 8.30am.

It’s a 12 mins steep downhill then steep uphill drive , but would take about 90mins adult fast walking as there’s a river in between so only one place to cross. There’s also no pavement on majority of route. Ds wouldnt be able to walk it at all.

PrudeyTwoShoes · 21/11/2023 12:02

I'm currently on may leave with baby so I only have one drop off to DS's school - it takes us about 5 mins to walk but then there's lots of faffing in the playground. All in all, it's about a 15 mins round trip.
