To ration the toilet paper

4 of us in this house. And we are getting through a minimum of 3 rolls a day. Bearing in mind I’m out at work and kids are at school. The final straw was me getting a fresh roll out at 7pm and going to the toilet just now and finding the roll empty. WTAF are they doing with it?! I’ve lost the plot and given them a roll each and told them they best make it last til the next delivery comes on Tuesday. Guess I’ll work out who the culprit is based on who comes asking for more first. Seriously tho, a whole roll in less than 4 hours!! And I’ve been for one wee in that time. I never thought I’d be the type of loon to impose toilet roll restrictions but it’s getting ridiculous. Sometimes I’ll go the the bathroom and find 2 brand new empty rolls on the floor over the course of half a day! Out of nowhere. Am I being unreasonable to impose rations until i can work what the hell is going on with it?

If you’re at work all day and the kids at school, is your DP at home all day then to be using 3 rolls?

MakeTeaNotLove · 09/11/2023 23:28

Bloody hell I thought we used a lot of toilet roll! I have a chronic runny nose and we get through about half a roll a day most days with four of us. And today DD unrolled one down the stairs like she was auditioning to be the next Andrex puppy.

Three rolls though! What on earth did you all do during Covid? I'm imagining you running out within half a day of the lockdown being announced and using your one walk to go out looking for dried leaves!

Aturtleatemysandwich · 09/11/2023 23:28

Depends who you’re taking about. As an adult I’d take a very very dim view of my partner rationing, monitoring or commenting on my toilet paper usage.

I presume you have actually spoken to your children? Not in an accusing way, in a calm “I’m concerned about your health and or the drains” way.

It all just seems a bit… dramatic. That level of usage is ridiculous but I think there’s better ways to handle it.

porridgecake · 09/11/2023 23:28

Have you asked them what they are doing with it?

DahliaMacNamara · 09/11/2023 23:28

Is one of you the Andrex puppy?
Or the Andrex poopy?

MakeTeaNotLove · 09/11/2023 23:28

(also YANBU)

RocketIceLollie · 09/11/2023 23:30

That is a lot of loo roll usage, but, you don't want to be labelled as a loo roll rationer and the info being leaked to friends and family outside your household.

PestilencialCrisis · 09/11/2023 23:32

From the title alone I was going to say yabu, but 3 rolls in a day is ridiculous. How old are the kids and do they know how to wipe their bums properly? As in, not wadding up 20 metres of loo roll for each and every dab?

Haha bizarrely we managed fine for toilet paper during Covid, but then I’ve always bought the 24 packs to avoid having to buy it weekly. It’s been the past year mostly, it’s gotten way out of hand! Nearly every time I go for a bloody wee I need to pick the scraps off the most recent roll or start a new one!

None of us are home all day. Even on my days off/weekend, I’m not getting through even half a roll.

I've switched to Naked Sprout. It doesn't unroll smoothly and it's broken and boring looking so not interesting for kids. We've gone from going through a roll a day to a roll a week.

I have been gently enquiring about it for weeks and weeks now. No one is fessing up.

Have you asked them what they are doing with it?

Yes, they deny all knowledge of where it is going

Who are they all? I mean there are obvious culprits...

TheUsualChaos · 09/11/2023 23:44

YANBU. That's ridiculous. Unless one of you has some sort of medical problem then a roll day should be more than enough especially when not home all day. I would stop buying so much and let them deal with it when it runs out. Keep yourself a roll hidden away though!

12, 13 and 15. All perfectly capable of responsible toilet roll usage.

Innnteresting.
We have problems with our oldest unrolling it all over the house to make massive long endless race tracks for Hot Wheels cars and our youngest being small enough to just chuck it everywhere. This could be the solution.

All boys you say?

🤔

Edited - I swear it said boys but I appear to be mistaken! I wonder if any of them are boys though and there may be an explanation of why they are going through so much toilet roll!

mrsfollowill · 09/11/2023 23:50

That is bloody nuts! We use a lot- DH has IBS but I'm talking a roll a day. I WFH so use it in the day but even with DH's issues it would be unusual to use 3. I hope your flush remains strong and your drains clear Grin

Girls? Do they have unfettered access to sufficient sanitary products and adequate disposal facilities that don’t involve wrapping in lots of loo roll? Any issues with OCD/germs/making makeshift toilet seat covers?

They’re too old to find unrolling paper fun, so there’s got to be some reason for it.

Girls stuffing bras? Is that even a thing these days?
taking toilet roll to school to use there? The school stuff is pretty tough and might get empty!

This. Lots of different options and with easy ways to dispose.
