To ration the toilet paper

4 of us in this house. And we are getting through a minimum of 3 rolls a day. Bearing in mind I’m out at work and kids are at school. The final straw was me getting a fresh roll out at 7pm and going to the toilet just now and finding the roll empty. WTAF are they doing with it?! I’ve lost the plot and given them a roll each and told them they best make it last til the next delivery comes on Tuesday. Guess I’ll work out who the culprit is based on who comes asking for more first. Seriously tho, a whole roll in less than 4 hours!! And I’ve been for one wee in that time. I never thought I’d be the type of loon to impose toilet roll restrictions but it’s getting ridiculous. Sometimes I’ll go the the bathroom and find 2 brand new empty rolls on the floor over the course of half a day! Out of nowhere. Am I being unreasonable to impose rations until i can work what the hell is going on with it?

@Notjustmesurely are you using a cheap brand and/or have you checked for shrinkflation? The brand we used to buy expanded the diameter of the cardboard roll so now has fewer sheets per roll, and they seem more loosely bound too.

We now use Tesco double-length rolls and they last ages.

Monkeyfarts · 12/11/2023 15:37

Did you find out who it was and why?

Luddite26 · 12/11/2023 15:45

I'm very much OP comes back with an update but I am feeling it's not going to happen now! Wondering why! Far too invested!

Fitrix29 · 12/11/2023 05:22

OMG, you have a 12 year old boy, do you really need this spelled out?!

But how much toilet roll is needed to catch a nut? Surely 8 sheets maximum? And no more than a couple of times a day/night?

Worst case scenario that's like an extra 32 sheets a day, which is about 1/8 of a toilet roll.

LittleGreenDragons · 12/11/2023 16:20

I'm guessing OP hasn't been back because it turned out OP was the person using it all. Blowing nose several times a day due to allergies, wiping around the sink, wiping make up off, that extra little bit for comfort, the extra wee in the middle of the night, it all adds up.

@Notjustmesurely are you the bog roll stealer?

PurpleSky09 · 12/11/2023 16:30

YANBU. It costs a fortune!!

Manthide · 12/11/2023 16:41

When my eldest comes to visit our toilet roll usage ups by about one roll a day - with 4 of us normally about half a day. I did find dd3 using it as part of her face cleaning routine - and nipped that in the bud. Then she started using it to clean her room!! Since I had a few words and a reminder that we do have cotton wool, kitchen paper and cleaning cloths it has been much better. I warned her I'd be getting reusable toilet paper if it carried on. She still manages to leave one measly piece on the roll so she can say she hasn't finished and doesn't need to bring up another one. ( She is 15)

scottishGirl · 12/11/2023 17:52

Could it be some sort of sensory need for your ND daughter?

doormat45 · 12/11/2023 20:22

Stop replacing it. Have a secret roll for your use only.

Worst advice on the thread. No one can use no loo roll and it's a health issue for girls because of the cystitis risk.

Busephalus · 12/11/2023 21:09

Such a mean idea

CKMc2b · 13/11/2023 06:00

I go through a lot, thanks IBS! But absent a medical condition it's a lot, unless your rolls gave gotten smaller? Shrinkflation? Because that happens a lot. I have switched to double rolls and I buy them online and it's solved our constant TP shortage.

1mabon · 13/11/2023 16:12

Ridiculous.

Bilbymum · 13/11/2023 16:53

I remember as a teen being a bit weird about wiping and using LOADS of TP for each wipe. It was just “always there” in endless quantities and would always be restocked - why risk touching pee or poop when I could use copious, ridiculous amounts to keep my hands clean? And I could do it in private so there was no external shaming in what I knew deep down was wasteful. I’d try to tap into responsibility about wastefulness and the environment, if they care about that. (I clearly still feel a bit ashamed about my past behaviour!) and if that doesn’t work, I’d consider rationing…

Bunnypops · 13/11/2023 17:07

Me too. I need to know lol

Lollzi86 · 13/11/2023 17:20

Same in this house. 4 rolls in the space of 24 hours this weekend. I know why though, eldest one lines the loo seat with it….a habit picked up from his father!

maybe an odd question but how does he know what his father does in the toilet? 🤔

thegirlwithemousyhair · 13/11/2023 21:27

Def not unreasonable.

£10 per week x 52 weeks = £520 per annum. That's a lot of money to flush down the crapper.

Did the OP crack PooGate?

Nanashikitty · 17/11/2023 05:18

Surely this has concluded by now? I read this on another site (Bored Panda) and now I'm invested. And I'm trying to fathom that much paper - in the US we have things like "double", "triple" and "mega" rolls, so I'm trying to picture someone justifying using a roll nearly a hand's length in diameter in less than a day - madness!

courtgerm · 17/11/2023 09:30

well, who was it and why???

VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia · 17/11/2023 10:00

What's the bet it was OP?

Starbuck24 · 17/01/2024 11:18

OP did you ever get to the bottom of this?! (Excuse the pun)

5YearsLeft · 17/01/2024 11:27

@Starbuck24 I suspect the poster four or five above you is why the OP never came back. If they saw it on Bored Panda, that means the story spread internationally, and I’m sure the OP fears being outed or maybe was outed and would fear the outcome if she shared something truly embarrassing about what she discovered. Most OPs who receive media coverage do not return. @Notjustmesurely , I do hope the situation has resolved and all your children are doing well.
