To ration the toilet paper

4 of us in this house. And we are getting through a minimum of 3 rolls a day. Bearing in mind I’m out at work and kids are at school. The final straw was me getting a fresh roll out at 7pm and going to the toilet just now and finding the roll empty. WTAF are they doing with it?! I’ve lost the plot and given them a roll each and told them they best make it last til the next delivery comes on Tuesday. Guess I’ll work out who the culprit is based on who comes asking for more first. Seriously tho, a whole roll in less than 4 hours!! And I’ve been for one wee in that time. I never thought I’d be the type of loon to impose toilet roll restrictions but it’s getting ridiculous. Sometimes I’ll go the the bathroom and find 2 brand new empty rolls on the floor over the course of half a day! Out of nowhere. Am I being unreasonable to impose rations until i can work what the hell is going on with it?

I might be wrong for suggesting this but , one of them not eating it are they? I know their use to be a big trend to eat toilet paper to fill themselves up.
Have you tried scented? If using it to wipe face they might not want to.
Is thos all the time or just every few weeks?
Could one of them be layering the toilet seat, one of my boys went through a faze of this (ND)

Christ I hope not!

  1. Is it decent loo roll?
  2. Do you have some wet wipes available in the room?
  3. Given the soap issue it sounds to me like someone has an issue with making sure they are ultra clean. So I would try not to get too angry about it and more - here's a solution to help keep clean.
LittleMooli · 10/11/2023 07:24

Also make sure you're buying the correct size sanitary towels/tampons

Sonolanona · 10/11/2023 07:32

We had that in our house and became clear eventually that it was my autistic ds2. He was developing Ulcerative Colitis, and going to the toilet constantly..and because he is also anxious and has OCD he was usuing several rolls a day by himself.
So I would keep an eye on bowel habits! He didn't tell us because he didn't realise he was ill, and it wasn't until I saw blood left in the bowl that I realised.
He still gets through a roll a day even on treatment but at least I now know why!

Swimeveryday · 10/11/2023 08:07

Guilty as charged wherever I go toilet rolls are in fear. My parents commented on it when I was growing up, the family I lived with as an Au Pair in my teens commented on it and finally my husband noticed it too! Unfortunately, I think I’ve passed the loo roll munching onto my adult son too, he’s noticed how much he uses now he has to buy his own at Uni. We also use Huggies water wipes after a number 2 so I have no defence. It is a problem. Glad you’re sorting it now before your kids are adults.

Busephalus · 10/11/2023 08:40

There is no way I'd limit toilet roll for teenage girls

Busephalus · 10/11/2023 08:43

Are Huggies water wipes flushable ?

No. Only loo paper should be flushed. Any wet wipe will not disintegrate in the sewer and will cause blockages.

Swirlycard · 10/11/2023 08:47

No.
It says it on their packs.

bellalou1234 · 10/11/2023 08:51

My dd used to make beds for her cuddly toys out of toilet paper

Bonbon21 · 10/11/2023 09:01

Not solving your problem exactly but have you tried squashing the roll so it doesn't 'roll'? That alone makes it more difficult to pull a long length of sheets.
You can do this whether it is on a wall mounted hanger or a 'stand' on the floor.

JimnJoyce · 10/11/2023 09:05

There are only 2 of us and we get through 6 large rolls in 4 days! I say we... DD is 14 and autistic

idontlikealdi · 10/11/2023 09:05

Two dds, me and DH. We go through 12-16 a week. It drives me insane. Not period related or make up, they have fancy cleansers and cloths for that.

Ponoka7 · 10/11/2023 00:27

I thought period use, but your DS is old enough to be wanking as well. Any sensory issues, are they drying their hands with it instead of touching towels?

You've got a lovely way with words. Have you thought about writing for a living?

Passepartoute · 10/11/2023 09:20

You could try lurking upstairs for the day and taking note how much paper there is on the roll before and after each child's visits.

anythinginapinch · 10/11/2023 09:23

Remind them to use both sides.

Jewelspun · 10/11/2023 09:26

Papier mache project?

Stealing and taking them to school to sell?

Same as our son, not ND tho. He was also layering it in the pan before he went to deaden the sound.

Yeah, pop in after every time you notice someone has been. It feels a bit intrusive, but there might be something going on that you need to know about.

DimplesToadfoot · 10/11/2023 00:01

Girls age 13 and 15, could it be period related, whether using more to keep themselves clean or extra padding in knickers so there are no accidents in school?

Oops I see someone else has posted suggesting the same as me while I was typing this, soz

This is what I was going to say too, as I used to do it as a teen. Toilet paper and tissues. My mother wasn't the type of mother where I could have that conversation about sanitary products. I didn't even really know there were different products for different flows.
So I would just check with your daughters if they need any products for a heavier flow.

Citrusandginger · 10/11/2023 09:36

Can't solve the mystery, but for those with IBS or hygiene preferences, I keep a pump bottle of baby lotion by the toilet to "wash" with. You get a clean, comfortable bum, use less paper and don't need to flush anything you shouldn't.

TheBeautifulMoors · 10/11/2023 09:42

We go through a lot. Early teen DS is the main culprit but he’s very clean generally. i’ve never had to deal with any marks in underwear since he started looking after himself in that department so i figure it’s a small price to pay, when i read about stories on here 🤢

TheBeautifulMoors · 10/11/2023 09:43

Teen DS does exactly this. I learned it from him.

gotomomo · 10/11/2023 09:55

My dp goes through a roll at a time, drives me mad too. I know it's him because no one else uses the en suite. It's likely to be ocd related, it is for us
