To ration the toilet paper

4 of us in this house. And we are getting through a minimum of 3 rolls a day. Bearing in mind I’m out at work and kids are at school. The final straw was me getting a fresh roll out at 7pm and going to the toilet just now and finding the roll empty. WTAF are they doing with it?! I’ve lost the plot and given them a roll each and told them they best make it last til the next delivery comes on Tuesday. Guess I’ll work out who the culprit is based on who comes asking for more first. Seriously tho, a whole roll in less than 4 hours!! And I’ve been for one wee in that time. I never thought I’d be the type of loon to impose toilet roll restrictions but it’s getting ridiculous. Sometimes I’ll go the the bathroom and find 2 brand new empty rolls on the floor over the course of half a day! Out of nowhere. Am I being unreasonable to impose rations until i can work what the hell is going on with it?

Totally agree with @Itsnotchristmasyet

Changednayme · 11/11/2023 15:52

I get through over 1 roll a day

VodkaSlimline · 11/11/2023 18:56

How's it going OP? Have you flushed out the the culprit yet?

I'll get my coat.

Darhon · 11/11/2023 19:03

Same number of kids and sex ratio and age range. 1 toilet roll a day was usual of a shit Aldi quality.

SnowdaySewday · 11/11/2023 19:24

Are they taking it to use at school? Or do any of them have a friend in “period poverty” (or having TP severely rationed at home) that they are giving it to?

Mossstitch · 11/11/2023 20:26

Like time and motion studies at work 😂

You could try lurking upstairs for the day and taking note how much paper there is on the roll before and after each child's visits.

Sorry meant to quote this before above comment.......doesn't make sense otherwise😩

We use “who gives a crap” toilet roll, we get through on average 3-4 rolls a week. I know this because I buy 48 rolls every 14/15 weeks!

when we go on holiday toilet roll infuriates me! We can easily get through 9/12 in a week at a self catering cottage and be out and out about during the days.

supermarket toilet roll is all packaging and air! You can see the gaps between the layers from the side of the roll. The stuff we buy is pretty dense.

(will say we buy the bamboo one as the recycled one tends to fall apart!)

with supermarket loo roll I reckon I could get through a roll in an evening - there’s absolutely nothing on them!

I spend £43 on £48 rolls. £3.07 a week for 4 of us.
on holiday if I don’t take them with us this can easily be £5+ especially as I try to buy 4 packs hoping they’ll be enough !

I suggest trying a subscription service!

Oldtigernidster · 11/11/2023 20:53

It’s a wonder your loo isn’t blocked!! 🤣

TheChosenTwo · 11/11/2023 21:13

I get 27 rolls (3 packs of 9) of cheeky panda every 4 weeks on amazons subscription thing. 4 or 5 of us here (dc1 at uni but comes home most holidays).
It’s pretty much the amount we use, so approx one per day between the whole family. They’re strong and we use less of them than we did when I bought Andrex or whatever.
3 rolls in a day is madness!

DreamTheMoors · 11/11/2023 21:17

My mum when she got old - and had plenty of income - began to count out the squares, limiting herself to 6 each wee.

Please Lord don’t do me like that.

Duechristmas · 11/11/2023 21:20

Do you have any teenage boys in the house?

chillin12 · 11/11/2023 21:23

Introduce water to wash genitalia and bums, will save a ton of toilet paper. First, use toilet paper to wipe, then use either a hand-held bidet (extremely cheap), or a bidet-shower, to wash, the toilet paper to dry the water. Will feel cleaner, fresher, and save paper and money in the long run.

Hippobot · 11/11/2023 21:28

Sounds like someone has IBS or something...Or you have a teenage boy in the house.

Doggymummar · 11/11/2023 21:29

My ADHD autistic oh said oh they've got a hyper wiper! He is the same but now I buy the Andrex paper that is double the amount on the roll and it is a bit itchy so he uses less.

Standingupagainsttheplayers · 11/11/2023 21:34

Aliens used all our bog roll?!

Just because they're aliens, doesn't mean they don't need to visit the little boys room

To ration the toilet paper
AdoraBell · 11/11/2023 21:39

This would drive me mad, I would stop buying it.

Strawberryjams · 11/11/2023 22:07

@Notjustmesurely I need to know who needed more bog roll first?!
I used to drive my parents mad with this but ended up I had OCD. I am now noticing a similar issue with my own child! I think you have done the right thing, you need to know who it is to help them. Whether or not it’s using half a roll a wipe or having bowel problems someone clearly has an issue.

RedToothBrush · 11/11/2023 22:14

We had two teenage boys stay.

Omg the amount of toilet roll we got through....

OhwhyOY · 11/11/2023 22:25

Teenage boy has suddenly got to the age where he needs it to, ahem, clean up mess?

Malbecormerlot · 11/11/2023 22:26

I've had this problem. Today I gutted my son's room and I found 6 loo rolls!!! He gets nosebleeds and grabs a roll when it happens but obvs doesn't put it back.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 11/11/2023 22:29

You’re lucky! I bought Andrex toilet roll this week and dd refuses to let me use any as she doesn’t want to hurt the puppies printed on the roll 🙄She did the same with the Aldi kitchen roll with the hedgehogs on it.

Now I need to find out who keeps putting toilet roll behind the bloody toilet!

adriftinadenofvipers · 11/11/2023 22:30

I don't think you are experiencing anything unusual tbh.

There are 5 adults in our house and I swear to god, someone is eating it, because it literally seems to evaporate!!! We go through loads. I've stopped counting up. I've even bought the huge Cushelle tubeless ones (I love that they are tubeless btw) and even they don't last any time.

It's nothing new though. Nothing weird. They're just peeing and pooing and using too much each time! Short of standing over them policing their usage, don't think there's a lot I can do but wait for them to move out lol!

I know other parents who say the same about their kids.

I've a bowel condition and sometimes I actually hide some for my own use because I have a horror of being left without!!

Early in Covid I went to a wholesaler and bought £75 worth of loo roll on buy one get one free!! I can tolerate running out of anything but toilet roll.

I don't think rationing is realistic or sustainable, sorry!

porridgeisbae · 11/11/2023 22:44

@Notjustmesurely I would use a lot as a teen because my mum wasn't giving me enough period products so I had to make makeshift pads out of loo roll.
