To ration the toilet paper

Notjustmesurely · 09/11/2023 23:22

4 of us in this house. And we are getting through a minimum of 3 rolls a day. Bearing in mind I’m out at work and kids are at school. The final straw was me getting a fresh roll out at 7pm and going to the toilet just now and finding the roll empty. WTAF are they doing with it?! I’ve lost the plot and given them a roll each and told them they best make it last til the next delivery comes on Tuesday. Guess I’ll work out who the culprit is based on who comes asking for more first. Seriously tho, a whole roll in less than 4 hours!! And I’ve been for one wee in that time. I never thought I’d be the type of loon to impose toilet roll restrictions but it’s getting ridiculous. Sometimes I’ll go the the bathroom and find 2 brand new empty rolls on the floor over the course of half a day! Out of nowhere. Am I being unreasonable to impose rations until i can work what the hell is going on with it?

Are there empty holders left behind or just gone completely? I would take a loo roll into the bedroom incase I need to blow my nose at night, or for nail polish removal etc? Are your dds using it to remove makeup etc ?

Irritatedandfedup · 09/11/2023 23:59

Husband and I get through 1 loo roll approximately even three days!

DimplesToadfoot · 10/11/2023 00:01

Girls age 13 and 15, could it be period related, whether using more to keep themselves clean or extra padding in knickers so there are no accidents in school?

Oops I see someone else has posted suggesting the same as me while I was typing this, soz

Swirlycard · 10/11/2023 00:23

Yeah, also thnking it may be period related.
In my home when a young teen we constantly ran out of toilet paper. My mum used to buy only a four pack at a time ( family of 5). I took to unrolling lots when it was there and stashing it in the back of my wardrobe just to make sure I had enough when I needed it monthly.
Do you have enough sanitary supplies available to the girls?

Or possibly someone has irritable bowel or some condition like that?

Is this a recent problem? If so it's unlikely they've started using more without good reason.

It could also be MH/anxiety related. Freaking out and being overly fastidious about hygiene etc

They may be too embarrassed to mention any of the above to you, particularly if you're annoyed about the usage.

Toilet paper is not something I'd limit. Continue with your enquires - gently!

Ponoka7 · 10/11/2023 00:27

I thought period use, but your DS is old enough to be wanking as well. Any sensory issues, are they drying their hands with it instead of touching towels?

LittleGreenDragons · 10/11/2023 00:36

Notjustmesurely · 09/11/2023 23:37

None of us are home all day. Even on my days off/weekend, I’m not getting through even half a roll.

Check the attic....

FrangipaniBlue · 10/11/2023 00:41

DDs using it to remove makeup?

Thepossibility · 10/11/2023 02:00

I remember when I was a teenager and my mum stressing about this. After months of her investigating
it ended up being my friend, apparently she used nearly a whole roll to wipe her butt because she was terrified of it touching her hand.

Catsmere · 10/11/2023 02:08

Are they stuffing it in their pockets? Different mental issue but my elderly mother shoves it in her pockets and under her pillow all the bloody time. Goes through a roll in a day or two.

TwoShades1 · 10/11/2023 02:16

It still seems a lot even with periods/wanking taken into account. I mean periods aren’t all the time and the OP said it’s been happening for a while. Is there sufficient sanitary products available? Are they aware of how to dispose of them properly? (ie, using wrapper of new pad to dispose old pad. Not using 3 metres of toilet paper to wrap it into the giant ball). Are they doing something silly like covering the whole toilet seat before using? Is the toilet being kept clean so that they feel comfortable using it? It’s definitely worth investigating as it’s not really sustainable and if is going down the toilet in large amounts could block it.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/11/2023 02:21

Really? You're policing toilet paper use and are considering rationing it?
F-ing humiliating to your children and insane. 🤦‍♀️

Well considering a pack of four rolls is about £2 for own brand decent ish stuff and they are getting through THREE rolls a day.....yeah I would be rationing it too.

3 rolls a day is ridiculous not to mention expensive. I don't think OP is intending to be draconian about giving out loo roll but she really needs to work out who is using so much and why.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/11/2023 02:46

This thread has gone mad....🤦‍♀️

HerMammy · 10/11/2023 05:23

Get thee to tiktok; 84 rolls of splesh £22

ALIENS!

Yes, Rimmer.

PestilencialCrisis · 09/11/2023 23:32

From the title alone I was going to say yabu, but 3 rolls in a day is ridiculous. How old are the kids and do they know how to wipe their bums properly? As in, not wadding up 20 metres of loo roll for each and every dab?

I buy a 4 pack a week. 3 of us. This is a ridiculous amount.

stayathomer · 10/11/2023 05:34

There’s 6 of us here, 4boys and we don’t come anywhere close, but definitely do more investigating, someone could have an issue

Wallywobbles · 10/11/2023 05:44

We use Amazon presto 3ply and it's pretty cheap and good quality. About 64 rolls for €32. I have IBS and I get through a lot but less than that.

NorthCliffs · 10/11/2023 05:27

Yes, Rimmer.

😂😂😂

YireosDodeAver · 10/11/2023 06:22

Do you have neurodiversity in the family?
We had a DC getting through enormous quantities due to massive anxiety about theirvskin touching anything but loo roll. They were basically mummifying one hand, dabbing a quick wipe and flushing the whole assemblage, and repeating that 3 or 4 times per poo. It took some time and careful support to reduce anxirty to the point that only about a quarter of a roll per poo is now needed.

Yanbu to be concerned but it may take more than firm rationing.

Hotchocolatemousse · 10/11/2023 06:26

Buy moist toilet paper and little paper bags to wrap and bin them in. Once I started buying moist loo roll we started using less regular paper. You get a better clean with moist wipes particularly after a poo.

Mummadeze · 10/11/2023 06:28

We have this problems with standard loo rolls. They just don’t last. We all blow our noses a lot and I have to do a lot of trips for number twos a day because that is how my body works. My advice is to buy the thick double rolls from Sainsbury’s as they cost around the same and last twice as long. Some loo rolls can go in a couple of hours between three of us.

Notjustmesurely · 10/11/2023 06:48

They have those cute little paper bags for their period products so shouldn’t be wrapping sanitary towels in it.

youngest daughter doesn’t wear make up, eldest only wears a bit of mascara.

Eldest is ND and years ago used to use 15 squares per wee, she’s stopped doing this now and has gone the other way and now doesn’t even always wipe after wees.

No known bowel disorders and in don’t think they are taking it to school as it finishes between 4pm and the next morning mostly Monday-Friday. Weekends we can get through 3-4 rolls a day!

i feel like it’s being used for something else.

I’ve never been angry about it before more just confused/mildly frustrated. But yes maybe someone has some kind of “need” for excessive amounts.

had the same with hand wash a couple of years ago, a bottle gone in a couple of days so I started buying the hard stuff which was harder to over use.

I might be wrong for suggesting this but , one of them not eating it are they? I know their use to be a big trend to eat toilet paper to fill themselves up.
Have you tried scented? If using it to wipe face they might not want to.
Is thos all the time or just every few weeks?
Could one of them be layering the toilet seat, one of my boys went through a faze of this (ND)
