Gym response to being flashed in ladies changing room?

Yajebbend · 06/11/2023 21:16

A male entered the female changing room and flashed at me late last Saturday night. I was alone and naked. I reported to the gym who have said that they checked the cameras three times and can’t see a male entering. It must be on there somewhere it happened, I’m raging about it and the response. I want him identified so I can report to police.

aibu to think this isn’t good enough

I'm so sorry this happened to you

capabilityfrowns · 06/11/2023 21:18

Just report it anyway the police can investigate and get cctv .

MrsMoastyToasty · 06/11/2023 21:18

Report it to the police.

RedDawg · 06/11/2023 21:18

That sounds awful, I’d report it to police anyway.

junbean · 06/11/2023 21:18

Yes def contact police!

AlisonDonut · 06/11/2023 21:19

I think you have to report it to the police and they get the evidence.

Remember it took a whole year of lying for the NHS to admit a man did rape a woman in a ward, they denied a man was even there even to the police. Even though they had it on CCTV.

HRTQueen · 06/11/2023 21:20

I would go to the police once they are involved the gym will take it more seriously

it wouldn’t surprise me if they hadn’t even checked their cameras many people don’t think of flashing as being a dangerous crime for many it’s just a prank it’s not and it can be terrifying and often the start of more aggressive dangerous behaviour

Seadragonusgiganticusmaximus · 06/11/2023 21:20

What definition of “male” are the gym staff using?

Cosmosforbreakfast · 06/11/2023 21:20

Was he dressed as a woman? Is that why they say no male entered?

Noicant · 06/11/2023 21:21

Police and expect the response that the be-penised pervert was actually a woman.

I’m sorry OP, no woman should be in put in this position x

Yajebbend · 06/11/2023 21:21

I’m just second guessing it all. I didn’t even say anything to anyone until this morning.

OP posts:
Eddielizzard · 06/11/2023 21:22

The police. I agree the gym might not even be looking. They want you to just shut up and go away so they don't have to deal with it.

Noicant · 06/11/2023 21:22

Don’t second guess yourself, it either happened or it didn’t. If you know it happened don’t let anyone gaslight you into pretending it didn’t x

Yajebbend · 06/11/2023 21:22

It was defo a man. He had a towel round him but didn’t come from the showers

The police will access the cctv.

TrishTrix · 06/11/2023 21:25

I'd go to the police as they are minimising it.

I reported a bloke as being in the mixed steam room at my gym with only a towel on. This accidentally slipped (and I'm pretty sure it was accidental) and I was very briefly flashed.

The gym have a "swimwear in the pool area' policy and they took my concerns very seriously and pulled a tonne of CCTV for me to view. They assured me that they had spoken to him about it and that if he is reported a second time for failing to wear swimwear in the pool area they will revoke his membership.

I was happy with this response. In addition, the Duty manager I dealt with has checked in with me several times since to make sure I'm Ok and haven't had a repeat.

JaniceBattersby · 06/11/2023 21:29

Definitely report it to the police. Indecent exposure is a crime.

Please go to the police asap in case the CCTV has a number of days before it deletes/ expires. They can check the data of who scanned in during that time.

That's terrible!!!!

SidewaysOtter · 06/11/2023 21:47

It’s telling that they say they “can’t see a male entering”. If they know the individual identifies as a woman they may well have discounted your report that way. “No, no men here, only women…”

Either that or they are hoping this will go away. Report it to the police and get this dealt with properly.

And I’m sorry this happened to you OP Flowers

What are you talking about? Nobody mentioned trans people. Apart from you.

TheresaCrowd · 06/11/2023 21:50

Report him anyway and the police will look at it.

Loubelle70 · 06/11/2023 21:52

Report it to police asap.

I was flashed (right in front of my 1year old in her pram) .... I didn't get the police involved, luckily my boyfriend lived next road, i went back there, gave description, boyfriend and his friend followed him...got out car and steel toe capped boot kicked him in the teeth whilst on his knees apologizing...i was happy with that!!.
If i didn't have that option i would have reported it to police

Because women who have been sexually assaulted have been gaslit in the past that no male was present. The parallels are obvious.
