Was anyone's DP a husband/father aged 30 or under?

Constantly hearing that men these days don't really get married or want children before the age of 30, and preferably later 30s. Just wondering how true this rings? Does that mean women shouldn't date men more than a couple of years younger if they want children, as they'll have to wait longer and risk their own fertility?
I personally know a few men who were married and had children around 28/29. I don't think it's that young really.. 21/22 ok, but nearing 30s, I don't think it's terribly young to commit.

My ex was 20 and I was 17 when I got pregnant. Obviously unplanned.

Theoriginalmrscillianmurphy · 31/10/2023 17:38

I think it's very young. I was 24 getting married m, had my children at 27, 28 and 29.

What was I thinking!

Kim82 · 31/10/2023 17:38

ArethaQ · 31/10/2023 17:39

We got married when ExH was 21 and he wanted kids straight away.

GrinchmasEve · 31/10/2023 17:40

We got married when DH was 28 and DC1 was born when he was 30. We were slightly ahead of the curve for our social groups, but not massively.

Wimpeyspread · 31/10/2023 17:41

I was 28 and my husband 27 when we had our first - that was 40 years ago though, and I was considered ‘old’!

GettingSickOfYourNonsense · 31/10/2023 17:41

My husband was 23 when our 1st was born. (planned, and we were married). He's now in his 60s.

Stressedoutforever · 31/10/2023 17:41

DH is 29, we're married and have two boys. In our friendship circles he is the only one under 30 to have done both

OhmygoshREALLY · 31/10/2023 17:41

DP was 21 (nearly 22) when he had his eldest, I was 22. He had his next at 25 (nearly 26), I had mine at 26 and 27. We’re now having our first together, both 33. In hindsight we were ridiculously young!

Idtotallybangdreamoftheendlessnotgonnalie · 31/10/2023 17:41

My sister and her partner are 31 with a 7 year old. Couldn't be better parents. They were married 3 years before having their kid too.

ReignOfError · 31/10/2023 17:42

My kids’ dad was 26 when the oldest was born, 28 for the second. My dad was 22 when I was born (a year younger than my mum) and had five kids before he was 30.

DominoRules · 31/10/2023 17:42

We got married and had 2 DC by 30 - seems crazy young now!! We were the earliest by a fair chunk in our social circle really, most friends have young DC now and ours are teens or friends with DC the same age are about 8/10 years older.

Storynanny1 · 31/10/2023 17:43

My parents were late 20’s, but in the 1950’s that was considered old
My middle son was mid 20’s but extremely mature for his age and married young at 21 ( still happily married 20 years later)
Eldest would have been a dreadful parent in his 20’s so glad he waited!

Wherethewildthymeblows · 31/10/2023 17:43

My dh was married at 26 and a father when still 28. It does seem quite young by today's standards.

MichaelAndEagle · 31/10/2023 17:44

We were 26 (married and baby in the same year). In 2007. Not that young at the time but now I think we were too young.
However we'd owned a house by age 24, it was just a lot easier to get on with that sort of thing then.
I certainly was too young though, and we are no longer together.

5128gap · 31/10/2023 17:44

Ime, many men have children when there's no longer a good reason to put it off. So, basically when they've done and/or had enough of doing the things you need to be child free for. I think this can happen at any age depending on the individual man's life goals and personality type.

Bboy1234 · 31/10/2023 17:44

My partner had his first at 22, she was planned. He then had children with me at 36 and 40. My brother was 26, unplanned but very loved and they are both great dads.

Dacadactyl · 31/10/2023 17:45

I'm 38 and DH is now 40.

We had DD when we were 21 and 23. We got married a couple of weeks after I turned 25 and had DS when I was 26.

My sister and BIL got married aged 26 and had their kids around 30.

Of my close friends, 3 got married and had kids with men when both parties were under 30. 2 others got married and had kids in early 30s with men older than them.

SylvieLaufeydottir · 31/10/2023 17:45

I think OP is specifically asking about ages now, or at least in the last 5 to 10 years. Thirty to forty years ago isn't really relevant - we all know that people got married and had children much younger then.

NoNeedToHurry · 31/10/2023 17:45

DH and I married when he was 27 and I was 24. Our first child was born a year and a day later 😊

We would have squeezed in another before DH turned 30 but I sadly miscarried. We have 3 children now, the youngest was born when DH was 34.

Hopingforno2in2023 · 31/10/2023 17:45

DH was 22 when we got married and 24 when DS was born.

ExTheCheater · 31/10/2023 17:45

My ex was 22 when our child was born and he went no contact as apparently a 22 year old is too young. Yet I was a teen and worked and have raised our son who's now a teen. Some people just can't cope at any age. My ex included as he's nearing 40 now and I hear he has had other kids he ignores too.

Onthetipofmytonguetoo · 31/10/2023 17:46

We got married when we were 26. Had first child at 28/29 and second at 30/31. We love that we had them then - although we were ahead of the curve and now we are 44 we have friends who are dealing with ten year olds, 5 year olds etc while we have a nearly 16 year old and 13 year old so our lives are very different and we don’t really socialise as families. Nevertheless we are happy and no regrets. Mind you we got together as kids in the late 90s.

Hopingforno2in2023 · 31/10/2023 17:46

DS is 7 so not distant history :)
