To think it’s turning into genocide in real time

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 13/10/2023 09:19

Just seen this on the news- how can this be right? It genuinely is starting to feel like genocide.

What Hamas did was beyond appalling. But this is also beyond appalling too. Its trying to wipe Gaza off the map. Over 500 kids have already died. Human rights watch have verified that Israel uses white phosphorus against Gaza, which is a war crime.

And everyone is just watching it happen.

“The Israeli army has just ordered the entire civilian population of Gaza to evacuate south within 24 hours. The UN says that amounts to 1.1 million people& applies to 100s of 1000s sheltered in UN buildings & their staff. This is impossible without “devastating human consequences”
Leaving aside the international law implications, I cannot emphasise enough how impossible this kind of movement of people would be. I have spent a lot of time in Gaza it is one of the most densely populated places on earth, there are pretty much only 2 roads south - along the coast and down the centre - they aren’t wide or well paved. I spoke to the gaza health ministry yesterday who said every hospital was overflowing. How would the wounded and elderly be transported? There is a massive fuel shortage how would vehicles drive? There would be no where for 1.1 million to go even if they got there. Rafah crossing to Egypt is not operational because of Israeli airstrikes.”

This is how Genocide is classified;
U.N. Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide:

"In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

  • Killing members of the group;
  • Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
  • Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part"

The actions of both Israel & Hamas fit this description too. It’s just fucking beyond terrible. And it feels like some world leaders are just cheering from the sidelines 😪

Attachment from BBC.

To think it’s turning into genocide in real time

DownNative · 19/10/2023 15:35

No, the BBC is independent of the UK Government.

Al Jazeera, RT and NK news channels are very different.

Ever wonder why BBC also has no publisher notes attached on YouTube like Al Jazeera does? 🤦‍♂️

I think you're scrabbling around for half baked claims now...

@DownNative Who funds the BBC?

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 19/10/2023 15:49

@DownNative ha, yea, you’ve only got to watch one episode of Question time to know that, despite their charter that you are so handily displaying, the bbc are anything but impartial.

Anyway, let’s get back to the main topic of Genocide shall we.

From Action on Hunger today:

“Lack of water in Gaza ‘a health crisis on the brink of explosion’, says charity
Lack of access to water is one of the biggest challenges in Gaza, according to the international charity Action Against Hunger, which is warning of “a health crisis on the brink of explosion”.
Staff at the charity say overcrowded displacement shelters are close to breaking point. They add that one shelter in Gaza is currently supporting more than 24,000 people and that 60% of the children there are affected by diarrhoea”

Can’t wait for someone to come along and tell us that depriving 2 million people of water isn’t a war crime.

@DownNative Who funds the BBC?

BBC funds come directly from every UK household that owns a television receiving device.

You pay the BBC licence fee DIRECTLY yourself. 🤦‍♂️

BBC editorial control is independent of the UK Government. See Royal Charter.

@Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 the Left and the Right both accuse the BBC of being partial. Both cannot be right.

Seriously, that's not a real argument from you. 🤷‍♂️

"Can’t wait for someone to come along and tell us that depriving 2 million people of water isn’t a war crime"

++++

Cutting the water supply to a civilian population is a war crime unless you can show the primary reason was to degrade Hamas military capability. Which to be blunt is very hard to argue on water and food.

Cutting the power supply and fuel supply is much easier to argue on the grounds of degrading Hamas military capability and would most likely not be a war crime.

Toothyfruity · 19/10/2023 16:35

Having seen how the BBC reported the conflict in my country I can say with confidence that they are not impartial. I like the BBC but never watch BBC news.

I think Israel bombed the hospital but it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things because we know Israel has been bombing hospitals and schools in the last week so we know who they are. War criminals.

The situation in Gaza is so horrendous at the moment. Lack of food, water and medicine is bringing people to the brink. It's an absolute scandal unfolding in real time.

I'm writing to MPs in my country and attending demonstrations and I've donated to UNICEF's Gaza appeal. What else can we do? I feel so helpless and I can't believe I live on a world where people are arguing about and justifying the murder of 1000 innocent little children.

Israel Frey, an Israeli journalist, who spoke up about the need for Israel to have empathy for the children in Gaza, whose home was subsequently attacked by hundreds of people, has put out a message to Israelis:

The UK Government in recent times bombed civilians in Yugoslavia, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and the war in Ukraine was deliberately prolonged and inflamed as a vanity project by Boris Johnson... but only now you are shocked at the UK government's fuelling of and participation in foreign conflicts? Genuine question- why has THIS one shocked you? Why is it so unbelievable?

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 19/10/2023 21:13

@Photographsandmemories err, who said I haven’t been shocked by other conflicts. It’s just this thread happens to be about the current situation in Gaza. If you want to start a thread about the others, please crack on as I’ll happily give you my thoughts. But that’s not what this thread is about.

OP posts:
Photographsandmemories · 19/10/2023 21:19

Sorry OP, that was a quote failure. Another poster "couldn't believe" the UK Government was supporting military action here (but I can't be bothered wading back through pages of this twaddle to see who)

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 19/10/2023 21:36

@Photographsandmemories ah sorry! Didn’t mean to sound defensive but someone else up thread was questioning why I wasn’t bothered about Ukraine- when I am- but just wanted to keep this thread to talk about the current situation!

Can any of the Israeli apologists here explain why 69 Palestinians have been murdered by Israel in the West Bank since October 7th?

No Hamas there?

For anyone who doesn't know, the West Bank also contains terrorist groups including Palestine Islamic Jihad and Hamas. There are regular terrorist attacks there.

'On top of this, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad—with generous funding and advice from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force and close cooperation with Hezbollah—are investing heavily in efforts to establish clandestine West Bank workshops for assembling rockets of the types manufactured in the Gaza Strip.'

The Danger of Violent Escalation in the West Bank

The West Bank is rapidly becoming Israel’s most active front, with terrorist incidents increasing, extremist settler groups rampaging in response to the murder of Jews, and near-daily clashes becoming more intense as Israeli forces arrest armed youths...

First of all your source is clearly biased. "American interests" in this region means supporting the actions of Israel which is committing war crimes including ethnic cleansing and genocide as we speak funded by the United States.

Secondly, are you saying every single one of the 69 was a terrorist who mounted an attack in the last 2 weeks? What a load of shit.

I've seen footage of youths throwing stones being murdered in the street in the West Bank in the last few days.

What are your lines/excuses for that?

To think it’s turning into genocide in real time
Crapsummer2023 · 19/10/2023 22:45

The UK government is itching for a terrorist attack here.

Rishi is doing photo ops in Israel saying he hopes ‘Israel wins’ (what does ‘winning’ look like Helicopter boy?) It’s not a game of football. We should be aiming for both sides to come together for a long term solution that works for both, not a win/lose.

Gove is bringing a bill to parliament to ban anyone from boycotting Israel next week as if that won’t heighten an already sensitive situation.

Suella wants to arrest anyone in possession of a Palestinian flag.

Robert ’Painter and Decorator’ Jenrick wants to defund the BBC because they stated Israel may have hit the hospital.

Home Office spokesman says Islam biggest problem in UK and multiculturalism has caused antisemitism (I thought Judaism was part of multiculturalism?)

Are these people devoid of common sense, sensitivity, ability to think things through?

Do they want shit to kick off here so they can play the big statesman?

This is a complex situation and time for very very cool heads. Not people aiming to take a side in a Twitter war. As a British citizen I want grownups in the room, not people seeking to get a headline.

When a nutter decided to blow some of our loved ones up, Rishi and co will claim shock and anger but they are pulling us in this direction.

As another helpful poster keeps pointing out, the fact a source may be biased in no way proves what they're saying is not true. Is anything that I said false?

Toothyfruity · 19/10/2023 22:59

Surely it's obvious that while America continues to support genocide and facilitates and bankrolls the ongoing apartheid in Palestine information from a pro-Israeli American lobby group isn't information that we can trust to be impartial.

Pollyputhekettleon · 19/10/2023 22:59

Hamas does have a presence in the West Bank.

'Sheikh Hassan Yousef (born 1955) is a co-founder of Hamas, an Islamist organization primarily active in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. He currently serves as one of their leaders in the West Bank.'

Hassan Yousef (Hamas leader) - Wikipedia

From Al Jazeera, in 2020: 'Israeli security forces have arrested Hassan Yusef, one of Hamas’ top figures in the occupied West Bank, in an overnight raid near Ramallah, the Israeli army said.'

There were 20 children killed in the West Bank in the last 2 weeks by the way. Terrorist children?

No news on the road mending at the Gaza-Egypt border

Now saying aid will maybe be delivered on Saturday or the weekend or whenever

Just hours of fuel for hospital generators left - so no functioning hospitals by the end of today

Hostages - ongoing negotiations in Turkey and Qatar

IDY Senior spokesman last night said Hostages and Aid not a priority Atm

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 20/10/2023 08:20

@Efacsen its fucking grim. No water, no food, no electricity, no hospitals, no infrastructure- anyone who says this isn’t genocide is deluded.
