To think it’s turning into genocide in real time

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 13/10/2023 09:19

Just seen this on the news- how can this be right? It genuinely is starting to feel like genocide.

What Hamas did was beyond appalling. But this is also beyond appalling too. Its trying to wipe Gaza off the map. Over 500 kids have already died. Human rights watch have verified that Israel uses white phosphorus against Gaza, which is a war crime.

And everyone is just watching it happen.

“The Israeli army has just ordered the entire civilian population of Gaza to evacuate south within 24 hours. The UN says that amounts to 1.1 million people& applies to 100s of 1000s sheltered in UN buildings & their staff. This is impossible without “devastating human consequences”
Leaving aside the international law implications, I cannot emphasise enough how impossible this kind of movement of people would be. I have spent a lot of time in Gaza it is one of the most densely populated places on earth, there are pretty much only 2 roads south - along the coast and down the centre - they aren’t wide or well paved. I spoke to the gaza health ministry yesterday who said every hospital was overflowing. How would the wounded and elderly be transported? There is a massive fuel shortage how would vehicles drive? There would be no where for 1.1 million to go even if they got there. Rafah crossing to Egypt is not operational because of Israeli airstrikes.”

This is how Genocide is classified;
U.N. Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide:

"In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

  • Killing members of the group;
  • Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
  • Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part"

The actions of both Israel & Hamas fit this description too. It’s just fucking beyond terrible. And it feels like some world leaders are just cheering from the sidelines 😪

😩 It’s unbearable - it’s mostly kids too. I am giving serious thought to going on the stop the war March in London tomorrow as I don’t know what else to do. Have also donated to MAP, the medical charity

Just give up. These terrorists-sympathisers aren't going to stop supporting Hamas. I mean, they literally slaughtered 1400 innocent people, maimed several thousand and kidnapped 200 and live streamed it all but people still don't give a shit. They bomb their own hospital and Israel gets the blame. The posters are now bringing the West Bank into it and acting like the "kids" throwing stones isn't a big issue. I mean, if teenagers did that in the UK it wouldn't be acceptable but it apparently is when it's Palestinians who do it. Once again one rule for them, another for everyone else. It's absolute insanity.

I hope Israel allows water and aid into Gaza soon, in exchange for every single one of the hostages. I don't quite understand why no one seems to care about these hostages but there we go. That's the terrifying world we live in.

@OhHelloTheres are you referring to all of us on here who are watching the children of Gaza being starved and blown up in massive numbers?

Israel using water as a bargaining chip is a war crime.

@Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 so is kidnapping. People keep conveniently forgetting that on a regular on Mumsnet.

But honestly, I'm not going to interact with you. You've shown your true colours multiple times on here. I'll let you reply so you can have the last word, I suspect that would mean a lot to you, but I'm done.

I hope there's peace in Israel and Gaza soon. The devastation on both sides is heartbreaking. Hopefully some of the civilians who know where the hostages are will give up the captors soon so the hostages can be released and water and aid returned.

Are teenagers in England shot on sight for throwing stones?

Are teenagers in England shot for throwing stones?

They might be if they were using slingshots, which turns "throwing stones" into lethal weapons.

Al Jazerra showed footage of some of these young men (not kids) practising with their slingshots. Absolutely lethal.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 20/10/2023 09:06

Honestly, using the term Terrorist sympathiser for being outraged at what is happening in Gaza just sums up the state of things at the moment.

I despise Hamas for what they have done, the hostages they have taken. I despise the Israeli government for their response too.

Biden had just asked for more money for Israel- so they can do what? Give them even more weapons to wipe 2 million off the face of the earth.

OP posts:

Every one of us sympathises with Gaza op. And most sensible people would say Israel should not be blocking humanitarian aid to children.

The only thing that would make someone a terrorist sympathiser would be to imply that Israel (or rather innocent people who are not 'Israel' somehow deserved the attacks on Oct 7 because Palestine [...]

@SideBob yes quite. And that has never once been said on this thread by anyone.

Ok that's the maddest thing you've said yet. And you've said mad things all along on this thread.

I'm sure the IDF with their $3.8BILLION in financial aid from the US can handle a few stones.

A woman I know who is Israeli lost her aunt and uncle when they were murdered in the Hamas attack.

She's emphasising that her aunt and uncle believed in the rights of Palestinians to self determination and she is begging for an end to the bombardment in Gaza.

If only some people on this thread possessed her humanity and the humanity of her aunt and uncle, may they rest in peace.

Efacsen · 20/10/2023 09:52

Update on the roadmending - it's not even started yet - presumably too dangerous for the workers?

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 20/10/2023 09:56

@Toothyfruity sorry for your friend/ it’s dreadful.

i have an Israeli colleague whose cousin lived at the Kibbutz that was targeted. They spent 12 hours in their safe room. My colleagues Mum & Sister live in Israel & are obviously really scared and want peace too.

My colleague left Israel because they disagreed with the annexation of Gaza and the actions of the Israeli government.

OP posts:
Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 20/10/2023 10:02

And again as I said earlier the thread too, it’s possible to understand that Hamas aren’t the Palestinians and to know that the people of Israel aren’t their government. And that the majority on both sides want peace.

Its ok to be outraged both by Hamas and the Israeli government.

And it’s ok to support the Palestinian people and not be called a fucking terrorist sympathiser. To believe that collective punishment is wrong.

Wasn't Gaza annexed in 1967?

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 20/10/2023 10:15

@Pollyputhekettleon yes.

My colleague disagrees with everything that has happened in Israel & Palestine. He hates the rhetoric, hated the government, hates everything about it and felt that he couldn’t live there anymore. They didn’t want to raise their kids there so moved to the U.K. about 15 years ago.

Presumably they mean the time that tbe blockade of Gaza started in 2007. When the open air prison was established.

Strange that the annexation of Gaza was part of his reasoning when Israel had just pulled out of Gaza in 2005 in a peace deal so it had no longer been annexed for 3 years at that point. You'd think that would have been a much more hopeful time for people like that. Especially someone who wasn't old enough to even remember the annexation.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 20/10/2023 10:25

@Toothyfruity i think so. They just weren’t comfortable with being there any more. I asked him at Xmas if he’d been to visit his family and he had, but he winced. He finds it hard to go back. He has a lot of friends there too.!

I suppose some people could confuse an annexation and a blockade. Odd for someone actually living in Israel to get the two things mixed up though. 1967 was quite an important event, as was the end of the annexation in 2005. Would have been very very big news there.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 20/10/2023 10:28

@Pollyputhekettleon he’s an academic. He taught at the Uni in Tel Aviv I think. He’s very into social justice. Maybe his perspective, as an Israeli, is different to ours.

Presumably it was OP who mixed up the terminology but thanks for your pointless contribution.

I think we can agree that both events were horrendously traumatising for Palestinians and I can easily see how right thinking Israelis would not want to live in a country carrying out these actions.
