To think it’s turning into genocide in real time

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 13/10/2023 09:19

Just seen this on the news- how can this be right? It genuinely is starting to feel like genocide.

What Hamas did was beyond appalling. But this is also beyond appalling too. Its trying to wipe Gaza off the map. Over 500 kids have already died. Human rights watch have verified that Israel uses white phosphorus against Gaza, which is a war crime.

And everyone is just watching it happen.

“The Israeli army has just ordered the entire civilian population of Gaza to evacuate south within 24 hours. The UN says that amounts to 1.1 million people& applies to 100s of 1000s sheltered in UN buildings & their staff. This is impossible without “devastating human consequences”
Leaving aside the international law implications, I cannot emphasise enough how impossible this kind of movement of people would be. I have spent a lot of time in Gaza it is one of the most densely populated places on earth, there are pretty much only 2 roads south - along the coast and down the centre - they aren’t wide or well paved. I spoke to the gaza health ministry yesterday who said every hospital was overflowing. How would the wounded and elderly be transported? There is a massive fuel shortage how would vehicles drive? There would be no where for 1.1 million to go even if they got there. Rafah crossing to Egypt is not operational because of Israeli airstrikes.”

This is how Genocide is classified;
U.N. Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide:

"In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

  • Killing members of the group;
  • Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
  • Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part"

The actions of both Israel & Hamas fit this description too. It’s just fucking beyond terrible. And it feels like some world leaders are just cheering from the sidelines 😪

Don’t twist my words. You still didn’t answer the question. Has this happened before?

parakeet7 · 15/10/2023 22:20

So many anti semitic posts are rightfully being deleted.

KTheGrey · 15/10/2023 17:51

@BMW6

How would you describe the event of every civilian in Gaza being killed? Geographically limited ethnic cleansing?

Has this happened?

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 13/10/2023 09:40

@IhearyouClemFandango quite!

The right answer, I guess, would be the international community demanding an immediate ceasefire. Not sending the bloody Royal Navy in as Sunak has done. I am hoping they are there for a humanitarian purpose but it doesn’t seem so.

its said by sun tzu, that sometimes the best way to ensure peace is to prepare for war

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 15/10/2023 22:25

BUT @parakeet7 it is not anti semitic to call out the utterly despicable actions of the Israeli government in withholding water , food & aid from 2 million people including 1 million children. It’s collective punishment which is a war crime under the Geneva conventions.

Christ, even the Pope is asking for restraint and for Israel to comply with international law.

@Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 So you saw her now-deleted post and thought that was OK?? Language and words matter.

parakeet7 · 15/10/2023 22:32

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 15/10/2023 16:48

@parakeet7 you are in absolute denial. Even the UN and the WHO are asking for restraint & for an end to the violence by Israel. Read the news- it’s everywhere. And call it what it is, ethnic cleaning and genocide.

Edited

Nonsense. Israel is defending itself and has the world's support. Deservedly so as they are surrounded by hostile states. End of story.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 15/10/2023 22:32

@etmoietmoietmoi eh? Which post?

We'll agree to disagree

@Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 Apologies, I thought you were referencing @Beyondshock deleted post, which @parakeet7 also pulled up.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 15/10/2023 22:35

@parakeet7 honestly, it’s gaslighting. Just like the Israeli government.

And FWIW I agree with this. But many posters are attacking and goading the wrong people, and they know exactly what they're doing and what it is.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 15/10/2023 22:38

@etmoietmoietmoi i have really taken care on this thread to distinguish between the actions of the Israeli government and Jewish people. In the same way I believe Hamas are not the Palestinian people. I won’t slide into anti semitism which i think is also used as an excuse. So I did see the post in question and I won’t go there - but I will call out the grim actions of the israeli government.

etmoietmoietmoi · 15/10/2023 22:42

@Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 I think we're all feeling emotional tbh. Some threads are worse than others. However there has been a huge amount of hatred directed at Jews across many of these threads.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 15/10/2023 22:42

And frankly anyone on this thread who is denying that Israeli gvmt is breaking international law is in absolute denial of the facts. Facts which are being presented by multiple UN agencies, respected NGOs and journalists on the ground and is gaslighting everyone.

OP posts:
Stopsnowing · 15/10/2023 22:43

it is beyond awful. People are afraid to criticise Israel in case they are accused of antisemitism.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 15/10/2023 22:43

@etmoietmoietmoi yes absolutely. It’s the absolute powerlessness too 💔

OP posts:
etmoietmoietmoi · 15/10/2023 22:43

@Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 Absolutely.

1dayatatime · 15/10/2023 22:46

Perhaps this is an opportunity for a more peaceful outcome:

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said the actions of the Islamist group Hamas do not represent the Palestinian people and called the Palestine Liberation Organization the "sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.

Now if the Arab states and the West could get behind message, provide the Gazans with an alternative Palestinian Government to Hamas and then support the regime change maybe this could work.

Israel gets what it wants the removal of Hamas, if the Arab states support it then it more clearly distinguishes between Palestinian and Hamas. And most importantly it reduces civilian Palestinian casualties and if Hamas resist then it becomes a war of Hamas against the Palestinians.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 15/10/2023 22:49

@1dayatatime yes let’s hope that is the solution. There has to be an immediate cease fire and end to the threats from the Israeli government too. And no land offensive. The Palestinian people deserve dignity too and not to be trapped in the Gaza Strip.

The cutting of power and fuel to Gaza if done to reduce Hamas ability to wage war against Israel (comms, weapon manufacturer, transport etc) is most definitely not a war crime even if it also impacts the civilian population.

This is not gaslighting it is simply the international laws.

Now if the cutting of power or fuel had nothing to do with combatting Hamas and was solely to do with punishing the civilian population then that would be a war crime.

SomeCatFromJapan · 15/10/2023 22:55

@1dayatatime I really hope this can be the case. Ultimately the only thing that will resolve this is an international consensus and the withdrawal of support and funding from Hamas, and probably not a ground war although I can understand the desire to destroy the immediate infrastructre that enabled last week's attacks.
