To think it’s turning into genocide in real time

1000 replies

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 13/10/2023 09:19

Just seen this on the news- how can this be right? It genuinely is starting to feel like genocide.

What Hamas did was beyond appalling. But this is also beyond appalling too. Its trying to wipe Gaza off the map. Over 500 kids have already died. Human rights watch have verified that Israel uses white phosphorus against Gaza, which is a war crime.

And everyone is just watching it happen.

“The Israeli army has just ordered the entire civilian population of Gaza to evacuate south within 24 hours. The UN says that amounts to 1.1 million people& applies to 100s of 1000s sheltered in UN buildings & their staff. This is impossible without “devastating human consequences”
Leaving aside the international law implications, I cannot emphasise enough how impossible this kind of movement of people would be. I have spent a lot of time in Gaza it is one of the most densely populated places on earth, there are pretty much only 2 roads south - along the coast and down the centre - they aren’t wide or well paved. I spoke to the gaza health ministry yesterday who said every hospital was overflowing. How would the wounded and elderly be transported? There is a massive fuel shortage how would vehicles drive? There would be no where for 1.1 million to go even if they got there. Rafah crossing to Egypt is not operational because of Israeli airstrikes.”

This is how Genocide is classified;
U.N. Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide:

"In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

  • Killing members of the group;
  • Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
  • Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part"

The actions of both Israel & Hamas fit this description too. It’s just fucking beyond terrible. And it feels like some world leaders are just cheering from the sidelines 😪

So when you're talking about what Palestine did, it's "Hamas" who did it. But when you talk about retaliation, it's "Israel" - basically all of us (the Jews)?

I honestly don't think anyone is suggesting that all Jews are responsible for Israel's actions. Or even all Israelis. Just the government and those who support them.
Similarly I don't think people would blame all Palestinians for Hamas' actions. Just those involved.

Beyondshock · 13/10/2023 20:09

Palestine doesn’t have an army. This isn’t a war. So what’s with the ground incursion…who are they going to fight? There’s no army to fight.

Syria
yemen
baltic
china

A small sample of the torture genocide and human rights abuses for last ten years. How come this is the only place getting coverage on the topic of brutal regimes and murders?

there are 50 other Arab states- what help are they sending? What airlifting are they doing? The Jews of Israel have nowhere else to go. They have to keep their land safe.

What would you do?

Israel is constantly posting propaganda videos on YouTube.

Ironically most of the comments on YouTube videos are pro-Palestine, so their propaganda isn’t working on ordinary people.

IveHadItUpToHere · 13/10/2023 20:15

People aren't staying because Hamas is telling them to stay. If people are staying it's because there are no safe passages or humanitarian corridors. It's because they're hoping Israel will listen to the WHO, the UN, Amnesty, etc, who are very clear that Israel's actions are against international law and if they continue will constitute war crimes.
It's because they have ill, elderly or vulnerable relatives who they can't move. It's because water, electricity and the internet have been cut off and they don't have access to the information telling them they are supposed to leave and where they're supposed to go.
And even if they leave, they might still get hurt whilst trying to leave. And they might get caught outside because there are too many people to move in such a short period of time so they have to balance the possibility of having shelter with the likelihood of being outside when the ground offensive and bombing start/intensify. And even if they are able to move, and to find somewhere they can go, they will still have no water, electricity or internet. No working sanitation means the risk of water and sewage borne illnesses and diseases.
Certain posters on here are acting as though Palestinians who don't leave are staying out of spite or misguided loyalty to Hamas. That isn't what is happening.

They are presumably going to fight whoever the armed men were that massacred over a thousand of their citizens on Saturday.

Yup just saw that, I think Israel at this point are trying to clear northern gaza for a ground invasion but will blow up anything anywhere near a Hamas member. Unfortunately theres 40’000 of them. It’s shit, utterly shit but if people can they need to go.

Well the whole point is that a lot of people won't be able to leave. Especially anyone who is sick, injured by the bombs, disabled, very young or old or if they don't have transport. These are the people that will die.

Also where do they go when they get there? They'll still have no food, water or shelter.

And then there's the people who are being bombed while they leave.

It's outrageous and it's a war crime.

IveHadItUpToHere · 13/10/2023 20:30

Both these videos are very powerful.

One from inside Gaza by Humza Yousaf's MIL (who is Scottish but, with her DH, was making a last visit to her 91-yr-old MIL who lives in Gaza) and one from Israel (from the son of a peace campaigner who has been missing since the Hamas' attacks).

And someone has just painted a very emotional picture of what they think is also happening whilst ingnoring that there is in fact some who are staying in loyalty to Hamas and the cause.

The internet has not yet been pulled in Gaza, hence why there is streams up and running and news getting out.

IveHadItUpToHere · 13/10/2023 20:34

Access to internet has become restricted through bombing and through lack of electricity. You can only access internet if your devices are still charged. A lot of people in Gaza no longer have charged devices.

Lonelycrab · 13/10/2023 20:35

They are presumably going to fight whoever the armed men were

Which will be practically impossible in an area that size with such population density and networks of tunnels. The fighters will slip away, some of them at least, and the civilians will die.

No one will win anything; and the cycle of violence will continue

MrsMara · 13/10/2023 20:45

Noicant · 13/10/2023 19:47

They have told people to move south not leave Gaza. They are clearly focusing on north gaza. I don’t understand what the alternative is? Just stay in your apartment in north gaza?

Just imagine that....

Nowhere to go. Knowing nobody cares. Dragging your children through an unimaginable landscape. Nowhere to go.

Nowhere for them to go.

Dispairrepair · 13/10/2023 20:55

There will be many reasons why people can't just leave. Many people are.
But hammas are also telling people not to leave and blocking exits.

I just feel something awful is going to happen above and beyond what's already happened.
Anyone planning this will know isreal will retaliate.

Unfortunately, the shocking reality is that Israeli soldiers are highly likely to come up against child soldiers as well as adult men.

The UN states Hamas AND the Palestinian Authority use children as soldiers. They both see the child soldiers as theirs who they send out on missions.

"As innocents, children are to be shielded as much as possible from the horrors of adult conflict and violence. Yet, children have long been the target of choice for Palestinian terrorists, just as they are for other Islamist terror groups such as ISIS, Boko Haram, and the Taliban.

The Palestinian tactic of targeting children is not new, but tragically there are many recent examples: In 2011 Hamas launched a heat-seeking missile at an Israeli school bus, killing a 16-year old boy. In 2010, Palestinian terrorists associated with the PFLP murdered five members of the Fogel family, stabbing to death two small children and decapitating a 3-month old baby. In 2008, a Palestinian gunman open fired on children studying in a Jerusalem school library, murdering eight. In 2004, Gazan terrorists affiliated with Islamic Jihad shot at point blank range and killed Tali Hatuel, eight-months pregnant, along with her 4 young daughters aged two to ten. And on August 23, a Hamas mortar killed 4-year old Daniel Tragerman as his father struggled to usher him into a safe room.

The Palestinian assault, however, is not limited to Israeli children. Palestinian children, too, are exploited as weapons of war: Pictures abound of Palestinian babies dressed as suicide bombers and brandishing arms. Children's TV programs, many sponsored by the Palestinian Authority itself, preach jihad, advocate genocide against Jews and infidels, and glorify martyrdom. A young girl on a program recently aired on Hamas TV was encouraged by the host to be in the police when she grew up so that she could "shoot Jews … all of them."

Source: https://www.un.org/unispal/document/auto-insert-181056/

There have been cases of Palestinian children wearing suicide vests too. See attachments.

That's the hard reality.

Dispairrepair · 13/10/2023 21:00

Dreadful.
More reason to root out these bastards.

All the eyes of the world are on gaza right now and everyone's hearts are breaking for this horror.

HeatherMoores · 13/10/2023 21:05

who are they going to fight? There’s no army to fight.

Their intention is to remove Hamas. I’m not sure if that is achievable.

  1. Hamas is partly an ideology not easily destroyed and
  2. Hamas leaders are not just in Gaza.
Dispairrepair · 13/10/2023 21:10

I imagine they want to destroy tunnels and take out any weapons etc but they have given them...the hammas a whole weeks notice I can't imagine much will be left expect nasty surprises.

verdantverdure · 13/10/2023 21:12

How will it help?

How will it improve anyone's life for Israel to do this?

It's just vengeance isn't it?

That's what I'm thinking. It won't, in the long term, unfortunately. It's shortsighted.

Coyoacan · 13/10/2023 21:22

Condemning Israel would be seen by many as condemning Jews and supporting Hamas, Palestine and Islamic countries in general. This is difficult because the threat of terrorism to the West is significantly greater from Islamic extremists than Jews

O sea, mejor matar a los bebés para evitar que crezcan a ser terroristas?

Hama's are telling them to stay because they know if people do they'll be more international pressure on Israel not to attack.

Yes we all know that Hamas don't care and they want them to stay.

That doesn't change the fact that the IDF also don't care and they know that the people can't get out even if they wanted to.

Noicant · 13/10/2023 21:55

MrsMara · 13/10/2023 20:45

Just imagine that....

Nowhere to go. Knowing nobody cares. Dragging your children through an unimaginable landscape. Nowhere to go.

Nowhere for them to go.

People are going, they are leaving as best they can. They are moving south. Yes there are going to people trapped because they can’t leave for very good reason but the roads have been full of people going to the south. There is work being done to get Egypt to allow aid through (which I hope to god they agree to), it will be easier to administer aid if people are not dispersed around gaza.

Hamas should not be telling civilians to stay. They are responsible for Gazans. They know a ground invasion is imminent. The fewer civilians in the area the lower the civilian casualties.
