AIBU to be sickened by what Hamas terrorists have done to innocent Israeli citizens?

I am not totally familiar with the whole Israeli - Palestinian situation. I don’t think anything political can explain what has happened over the last few days.

It is utterly horrendous what Hamas has done. I also think that Hamas are no friend to the Palestinians. They are bringing wrath on them.

I have read that this is the worst attack on innocent Jewish people since the holocaust, which is horrifying.

I am struggling to process these recent events.

Hamas want Israel wiped off the earth.

They do not want any negotiation, any deal. Their only aim is the destruction of Israel and death of all Jews. I saw one of their senior leaders interviewed on the news earlier and he was absolutely adamant in his "so what" about the atrocities Hamas is committing. They are animals.

And you do know that Egypt can’t send power to Gaza as Israel blockaded by land, air and sea Gaza since 2007?

Finally, even though Israel has said that civilians in Gaza should go over the border to Egypt by the one and only Rafah corridor- it’s been bombed three times in 24hrs by Israeli air strikes? Making it unsafe to cross, and aid getting in impossible.

I believe they are targeting Hamas and I have read they have at times tried to help Palestinian civilians.

Is it OK that Israel breaks international law every day kicking Palestinians out of their homes, stealing their land, destroying their livelihoods and making the citizens of Gaza live under seige?

The headlines are abhorrent, but is there any neautral source confirmation of the atrocities in question - outside of the Israeli Army saying that their enemy did it and that photos of the massacre exists? (And this then being reported as verified fact by the Daily Mail etc) No doubt Hamas is a ruthless bunch, but politicians do lie/soon the truth and armies do lie/spin the truth, particlualry in times of warfare. Any independent confirmation?

Hamas tried to negotiate with Israel in 2009, offering a two state solution with the 1967 borders. It’s so well known it’s in Wikipedia with sources. Israel refused.

But Hamas are palestinian- a palestinian political group- as I understand it. It's like saying the Conservative party committed some atrocities and then having my house bombed whether I voted for them or not.

I am getting on now but I have heard for what feels like my whole life how Israel has committed frankly war crimes against the Palestinians. As student we used to have marches for them. The attacks are horrible, on both sides. The military type prison they keep the Palestinians in in Gaza is not ok. How long can anyone really life that way, for generations without proper freedom? The way the palestinians were forced from their homes and occupied in the west bank is horrific.

It's a hugely sad situation and has been for a long time, but I also feel like it was inevitable if you seriously repress a people with armed soldiers long enough they will fight back? I don't understand how the Western governments have stood so strongly with the Ukraine against Russia but just sort of turned away from passing any kind of judgement on the continuing problems in Palestine.

Women had the right to vote in Gaza and many of them also voted for Hamas. Opinion polls show many, maybe even most, Gazans do support Hamas. That includes women.
