AIBU to be sickened by what Hamas terrorists have done to innocent Israeli citizens?

I am not totally familiar with the whole Israeli - Palestinian situation. I don’t think anything political can explain what has happened over the last few days.

It is utterly horrendous what Hamas has done. I also think that Hamas are no friend to the Palestinians. They are bringing wrath on them.

I have read that this is the worst attack on innocent Jewish people since the holocaust, which is horrifying.

I am struggling to process these recent events.

It is sourced. They made the offer. That is a fact. As was Israel’s refusal of the offer. I’m sure you only know the Hamas 1980s era hate speech which mirrored the Israeli 1980s hate speech and haven’t read a single thing by any of their new leaders since then.

On your second point nobody here is saying what Hamas did was OK. Most people supporting the Palestinian side agree that it was barbaric. What is noticeable is that nobody on the Israeli side here is admitting any wrongdoing by Israel when they have imposed apartheid on Gaza for 15 years and have stolen land and terrorised the population. And are bombing civilians as we speak.

That's a worry.

@Toothyfruity The land of every country on earth, including yours I'm sure, was taken by conquest at one time or another. Humans have displaced other humans through warfare since time immemorial. That land was taken by the Jews during Old Testament times and they were dispersed during the Roman Empire. They reacquired it by conquest after WWII.

I can’t understand why people don’t seem to realise this isn’t ‘retaliation’ from the Palestinian people, it is Hamas who use both their own people as cannon fodder and commit the horrific atrocities in Israel.

You are so wrong. There is no occupation of Gaza because they have been blockaded as a de facto ghetto since 2007. They were not given anything of what they wanted or legally were entitled to by the UN agreements.

The current Hamas policy of 2017 doesnt call for genocide at all. Their 1980s original charter is obsolete, but islamaphobes keep on bringing it up while ignoring the policy statements of Israel from the 1980s that also called for the genocide of Palestinians saying they should resign themselves to being dead or slaves, calling them drunken cockroaches and worse.

No one at all deserves to be treated like that. It is sickening.

There is so much antisemitism dressed up in whataboutery on these threads about Israel.

Criticising the actions and policies of the Israeli government is not anti semetic.

This is why any discussion or debate around the Israeli government is almost immediately shut down, cries of Anti semetism come up.

Hamas are terrible, yes and the things that they have done are unforgiveable.

On the other side, Israel has been depriving Palestinians of access to food, medicine, water, electricity on and off for years so thousands will have died of preventable diseases. They will also almost definitely end up directly killing far more Palestinian babies with their attacks in the next few weeks than Hamas has killed Israeli infants. They are literally trapping innocent families in Gaza and depriving them of everything that they need for life.

The amount of antisemitism and ignorance on this thread is shocking. If terrorists stormed your homes and beheaded your baby and raped you and murdered your children and husband and then dragged you away, I wonder if you’d be saying ‘it’s okay, due to political reasons outside of my control I probably deserved it.’
