To be sickened by Hamas

MindfullyAmazedHorse · 10/10/2023 22:08

AIBU to be sickened by what Hamas terrorists have done to innocent Israeli citizens?

I am not totally familiar with the whole Israeli - Palestinian situation. I don’t think anything political can explain what has happened over the last few days.

It is utterly horrendous what Hamas has done. I also think that Hamas are no friend to the Palestinians. They are bringing wrath on them.

I have read that this is the worst attack on innocent Jewish people since the holocaust, which is horrifying.

I am struggling to process these recent events.

"I mean sure, killing everyone in Gaza will kill those who are Hamas member, sure. But that is a genocide."

Cutting off the electricity supply to Gaza in order to reduce Hamas ability to wage war against Israel is not a war crime and it most certainly isn't genocide. It is a standard and established military action when waging a war.

sigh They cut the food and water supplies too.

Colony no, I should have chosen my words better, would you prefer occupied territory?

But yes, the Brits pretty much did hand over Palestine to Zionists minorities AND commit and enable the ethnic cleansing of the local islamic population.

Edited

Well, that is your characterisation. As you know, it was the decision of the UN, not the British - although they/we did handle things badly. But it wasn't 'ours' to hand over.

In what sense did the British commit and enable ethnic cleansing?

Pollyputhekettleon · 11/10/2023 15:15

Daftasabroom · 11/10/2023 15:08

Sorry - I just don't get this whole argument that some arbitrary precedence gives one culture or movement the right to cleanse another off of an occupied or invaded territory.

Yes I can see why it would be hard to understand an opposing argument that you just made up yourself. It would feel slightly schizophrenic I suppose. Strawmen are intended to be whacked, not understood, after all. But if at any stage you decide you might answer the argument I made, you're welcome to do so. I'm sure I expressed it in very clear language.

LemonyTicket · 11/10/2023 15:15

@BigBillyButterBollocks

Palestinians do not have rights as Israeli citizens because they are not Israeli citizens.

Israelis do not have right as Palestinian citizens because they are not Palestinian citizens.

Israelis do not have rights as British, French, Chines, Ugandan, Hungarian or Portuguese citizens because they are not citizens of those countries.

This is how citizenship works.

You can easily discuss settlers treating Palestinians badly in the west bank without making out on any level that non Israeli citizens deserve citizens rights because that's obviously preposterous.

For all the people clutching their pearls at people in the West protesting to defend Palestine (not Hamas, Palestine), are you this worried about this "having infiltrated us" to quote you

Nah no pearl clutching I just want to see terrorist sympathisers (of whatever affiliation terrorist group) arrested and taken off the streets and that would include those seeking the death of all Palestinians as well.

I am sick and tired of hearing that if you criticise the Israeli government you are antisemite. No government is above criticism. I vehemently disagree with Hamas and with what is happening to the Palestinians in Gaza (laying siege is a war crime). You can do both at the same time.

👏👏👏

As a parent, it's pretty awful watching Palestinians crying as small body bags pile up in carts. The Israeli government announced it, so we all knew it was coming, but it's awful to watch. I can't imagine going out a celebrating that. Thought makes me feel sick.

It's like you've gone to some socialist meetings wearing a Palestinian flag and said "solidarity" to everyone you speak to and ended up some kind of robot. You are regurgitating Iran state propaganda, and probably watching "Palestine Live" off Iran state paid TV and thinking it's unbiased news.

No one "Ethically cleansed" them. They were offered their own independent country and 80% of the land (more than their proportional share) and the Arab league got together and decided to instead try and stop Jews getting a state of their own, went out of their way to block Jewish refugees getting refuge during the holocaust. And escalated persecuting them across the Arab world, with many leaders working hand in hand with Hitler to the join aim of wiping Jews out.

And then once the deal was done for partition, they started a war and tried to obliterate Jews yet again and have been doing so ever since. You will eventually wake up, but in the meantime it's folks like you enabling Hamas to terrorise their own people. While public opinion of ill informed westerners is apologising for Hamas, then they will gain more and more support.

No need to be sarcastic. I think what we're all searching for is what is preventing the peace talks? Obviously any peace negotiation will involve the Israelis agreeing to stop being scum bags towards the Palestinians, and they won't have the "but we're just defending ourselves" excuse any more. In the current climate opportunists are going to take advantage and hide behind "there's a war going on".

rinbaud · 11/10/2023 15:27

And the Germans because they had been so beastly after ww1 and the Versailles Treaty reparations got off virtually scot-free and even got a Marshall Plan of aid - whose people who had embarked on the industrial slaughter of the Jewish race and plunged the world into war. Who says crime doesn't pay.

"Zionist minorities". Who are "Zionist minorities"?

What you really mean is the remaining European Jews who hadn't been exterminated don't you? Your use of language is very deliberate. Why couldn't you just say Jewish minorities or Jewish refugees? You specifically used the term Zionist in an attempt dehumanise Jews. @Daftasabroom

LemonyTicket · 11/10/2023 15:30

@Denis44

You keep coming on and repeating these same lines that are just complete nonsense. What's happened is that you've come here with a really deeply held anti Israel bias and then put forward inaccurate information and haven't liked being corrected.

You are not interested in learning or knowledge or objectivity. You are too invested in hating Israel and engaging in confirmation bias to come up with logical fallacies to justify them.

I am absolutely not neutral. Hamas are murderous terrorists. They should be universally condemned and called out rather than all these shameful people trying to "both sides" it and hold Israel to ridiculous standards whilst holding Palestine to not even rock bottom ones.

My neutrality isn't here nor there. Facts are facts.

Why would a scholar of theology, ancient israel and middle eastern history know about house prices on the gaza strip in 2023? Or are we just going full blown straw man now?

Important to point out that some Jewish posters here have described themselves as Zionists. How is it dehumanising ?

You are on a thread defending the most heinous acts of terrorism by painting Palestinians as inherently helpless victims and Jews as inherently evil overlords. The crux of your argument seems to be the meanie Jews drove them to it by being meanie.

What has just been pointed out to you is that actually plenty of people have been through this. Losing homes and land is not exclusive to Palestinians. over a million Jews also had their homes and land taken in Gaza, West Bank and dozens of Arab countries and guess what none of them became? Terrorists!

Amazing hey!?!

Have to agree there have been some very insteresting takes on these threads, I have seen word for word russian and Hamas dissinfo on these threads coming from the so called critical thinkers of the left.

Well on that we can wholeheartedly agree. And I am glad you accept that those of whatever affiliation seen to be supporting and sympathising with terrorists need to be arrested and taken off the streets.

As for what defines celebrating or supporting terrorism that is for the criminal justice system to decide but it should be applied equally to all terrorist groups.
