To call my neighbour selfish

Fedupandgrumpy1 · 21/09/2023 19:36

We live in a quiet street with about 10 houses in. I have mobility issues and also struggle with my MH. It's important for me to have as much sleep as possible so I tend to go to bed at 10.30pm and don't get up until about 11am.

Very recently a family moved in next door. They have 3 children who are lovely and not a problem. But their mother annoys me and I feel she is being selfish. She works strange hours and most days leaves the house to go to work at 4.30am. She drives an old car and the doors creaks when she opens it. She then normally sits in the car with it running for 5 mins before driving off. The father is fine.

I have spoken to her and told her about my health issues and have asked her to consider changing her working hours, replace her car or to park her car in a road away from the house. She said she was sorry that she disturbs me but she cannot change her working hours due to the nature of her job. She said they can't afford to replace the car and as its an old car she has to warm it up before going anywhere. She admits the door creaks and said that oiling is didn't help. She is not willing to park away from home and she doesn't think its safe to walk on her own early in the morning with no streetlights.

She is making me more poorly. I am now having to sleep a bit in the afternoon due go being disturbed and as a result am missing out on me time.

What can I do about it? I'm fed up of her selfish behaviour.

Change her work hours or replace her car????

the doors creaks when she opens it.

Call 101.

😂

Tonightsthenight91 · 21/09/2023 21:25

She’s probably absolutely pissing herself at her nutty neighbour next door. This is not one but normal for you to even notice this never mind bring it up to her

anicecuppateaa · 21/09/2023 21:26

This has to be a wind up!!!

Nanaof1 · 21/09/2023 21:26

pictoosh · 21/09/2023 20:01

She did...and the selfish cow refused!

OP is having to nap in the afternoon, thus cutting in on her me time!

That puzzled me. She seems to live alone and doesn't work, so every second of every day is her "me time".

Just mind-boggling...

AnneValentine · 21/09/2023 21:27

This cannot be real…??

Ontheperiphery79 · 21/09/2023 21:29

So, you're not able to work and, this, are able to sleep for as long as you please, but this dreadful, awful Mother of 3 is disturbing your precious slumber by having the audacity to go to work at 04:30? How dreadful it must be for you, having to sleep additional hours in the afternoon, cutting into 'me' time!

Come the fuck on, OP, you really can't actually believe that you speaking to her about this is at all reasonable?!

Bloody hell...

Inkpotlover · 21/09/2023 21:29

Fedupandgrumpy1 · 21/09/2023 20:50

No I'm here. I'm just quietly reading the comments. I'm not sure what else to say.

Can you see now that your NDN isn’t being selfish but wanting her to give up her job or expecting her to buy a new car is?

Perhaps move your bedroom to the back of the house where you are less likely to be disturbed?

Mountaineer0009 · 21/09/2023 21:30

@Fedupandgrumpy1
could you buy your neighbour a new car ?

SawnFreshWoodShavings · 21/09/2023 21:31

Pure click bait thread.

CostelloJones · 21/09/2023 21:31

Really interested in what OP does for “me time”

only asking because for me it would probably involve a nap anyway 😂

Mistymist · 21/09/2023 21:33

You've asked her to change her job/car as if it were a pair of shoes? Really?

Hummingbird89 · 21/09/2023 21:34

Fakest pile of shit I’ve ever read. Nobody is as clueless, self centred and stupid as the OP is pretending to be.

Thepossibility · 21/09/2023 21:35

It sounds like you get 24 hours a day of me time mate.
You were lucky she was nice to you. By the sounds of it she gets very little sleep, let alone any me time at all.

pontipinemum · 21/09/2023 21:36

There is no way this can be true? Is it?

No one could be that self centred. Do you in all honesty think what you want her to do is reasonable?

Loverofoxbowlakes · 21/09/2023 21:37

Fuck me op. You are having my ENTIRE night's sleep (and then some) AFTER your neighbour leaves for work at 4.30am if you're then not getting up until 11 - I can only dream of 6 1/2 hours sleep every night, never mind 12 1/2!!!

Yabvu - how about you go to bed at 4pm to make sure you get your full quota in before 4.30am? Or see the gp for investigations into why you're sleeping so much?

I don't think I've ever seen a thread with 100% YABU after 3 pages...

Is that a record??

HoraceTheLlama · 21/09/2023 21:43

I’d have loved to be working with the neighbour when she rocked up at work and said “you won’t believe what Marjory next door has asked me to do……”

absolutely bonkers.

Hiddenvoice · 21/09/2023 21:43

Op I’m sorry but you are being incredibly unreasonable. I’m sorry for your illnesses etc but your neighbour has no control over them. When she bought the house she wouldn’t be aware that it came with these terms and conditions.

Sadly the majority of jobs are not 9-5. She is not being selfish, she’s being a hardworking parent, providing for her family.
The issue here is you, if you cannot sleep then move to another room. Get some ear plugs and just learn to deal with them. Put in a sound machine to block out any noise but overall the problem here to fix is yours.

If she was blaring music at half 4 or screaming in the street then fair enough have a chat but all she is doing is opening her car door and going to work. I dread to think how you’d cope with foxes screaming! You’ve been rude to her and I do feel you owe her an apology.

Furryrug · 21/09/2023 21:45

Wind 'em up and reel 'em in .

Teentaxidriver · 21/09/2023 21:48

Do you normally expect the world to revolve around you?

momonpurpose · 21/09/2023 21:52

I think since the neighbor works why can't she buy OP a lovely isolated house maybe overlooking the sea some nice. Least she can do 😆

Yellowflower47 · 21/09/2023 21:54

After reading your responses, I am baffled. If you actually worked and had to fund your own housing/car/living costs you’d know that it’s not all rainbows and candy canes for most. You might not choose to be disabled, but you certainly choose to be a dick.

EL8888 · 21/09/2023 21:54

Not sure where to start with this. I want to know how your neighbour kept a straight face. The park a few streets away suggestion is especially entitled. You do know she’s getting up super early already?!

Fanlover1122 · 21/09/2023 21:54

Lol! This is one of the funniest things. If my neighbour suggested I get a new job to suit them - i would be suggesting they get psychiatric help! She is leaving the house and warming the car up - not having a rave.
