Roman Empire female equivalent

HeadChog · 12/09/2023 22:21

Inspired by the Roman Empire thread, I wondered whether there is an equivalent thing that women think about a lot but men never do.

I reckon I think about Michael Jackson a lot more than my DH. I probably think about MJ at least 3-4 times a week.

Anyone else think about one obscure thing, unconnected with work or hobbies, a lot?

Does death count?

Me or DH dying
What is do afterwards. How he'd cope

Kinda somewhere between intrusive thoughts and forward planning for loss.

Esgaroth · 13/09/2023 14:16

For me it's probably Bernard's watch. I wish I had Bernard's watch on a very regular basis and spend a lot of time thinking about Bernard's watch in general.

BrawnWild · 13/09/2023 14:20

Storage

Giggorata · 13/09/2023 14:41

Masses of things, too numerous to mention, but the main ones include:

Brocéliande, the mythical magical forest, where I (imagine that I) live with my community.
being able to fly
women's rights
Lexx and the Brunnen G
other space settings, universes
whether we live in a simulation
pre Roman pagan Britain, not Romans
a place for everything and everything in its place
Storage too
how space, time, maths, quantum mechanics and music interrelate
the Mandela effect
living in Discworld
secret gardens
house decor
winning a lottery (I don't actually do any)
apocalypse scenarios and what I would do/prepping

Yes! Agree with this one.

Also, being murdered. Sadly I imagine women think of this more frequently than men.

I feel a little stupid after reading this thread. I don't think about any ancient Empires on a regular basis. So I decided to ask my DH how often he thinks about the Roman Empire and he said "only when something about it comes on the tv." But then he corrected himself. Nothing comes on the tv any more unless we put it on, because we canceled our cable and just have netflix, etc.

So he wanted to know why I was asking the question. He thinks it's ridiculous I am constantly on MN and so I said, "I am trying to think of something to think about regularly."

I decided maybe this is because we are American. We don't encounter vestiges of the Roman Empire very often. I just texted to ask how often he thinks about native American history. Will report back.

As an aside, I do think about England and the British Empire frequently.

AliceOlive · 13/09/2023 16:47

I mostly think about what I am going to eat next.

I don’t give a shit about the Roman Empire. I think about what I would do if I win the lotto at least every other day 😂

I do a version of this. "Unexpected Wealth Planning". I don't want to be caught off guard with no plans when it happens.

IHeartGeneHunt · 13/09/2023 16:54

I think about Victorian London every day. It's my Thing.

Roman Empire, fairly often, but I do have a degree in it.

Ancient Babylon, Hittite kings, 1920-1930 English history, every day probably.

Every night to get to sleep I have a long running post apocalypse story in my head and I add a bit.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 13/09/2023 16:55

TV and films prompt an endless list of 'When did...?', 'Who was...?" thoughts. I can easily spend half a film going down a Google rabbit hole about the Austro-Hungarian compromise, or the French line of sucession from the Revolution to the Third Republic (and then have to rewind and catch up with all the bits of plot I missed).

And I time pasta with historical facts. If it goes in the water at, say, half past 6 we then have 10 minutes to guess what happened in 1830 and check our guesses. So 'historical events from 1800 to 1930' feature quite regularly in my thoughts as that's the usual time range for cooking dinner.

Sorry to bring the tone down but on a least daily basis I think about people from VH1 Behind the Music documentaries I watched in my youth. I'll just be in Superdrug and think 'I wonder what Milli Vanilli or Shania Twain are doing now?'

Justdontforgethelegofrog · 13/09/2023 17:00

@SleepingStandingUp I think about all the nice things people will say in my eulogy.

Justdontforgethelegofrog · 13/09/2023 17:02

@FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper I think about tour guides too!! On holiday we went on a little train tractor tour and the poor guy had to explain all about the sheep and cow breeds we were saying, I just thought, he must have to say that every single hour of every day. You couldn't pay me enough!

Henry cavill with his shirt off?

See my username 😅

AnySoln · 13/09/2023 17:05

Not walking around by myself in the dark

I would like to be a cat

what i eat

How some films are just action now

Why fewer good women comedians

The kids and dress up days / pe/ homework

Where do all the plates come from

Why it seems we have equality but really end up doing everything

Woods52 · 13/09/2023 17:35

I think about spies and the Cold War a lot.

I also think about my neighbours several times a day. Or rather, the life I’ve made up about them in my head.

Convinced they’re either drug dealers or money launderers

(I have a very active imagination and a boring WFH job)🙄

Xiaoxiong · 13/09/2023 18:17

I speculate endlessly on other people's lives. I love people watching on the train, sitting in the window of a cafe, etc. I look at their clothes, shoes, hair, facial expressions, try and glean clues about where they're going and what they're up to. I think I was very impressed as a kid reading Sherlock Holmes where he could tell someone was a bricklayer by the special flattened left thumb or whatever, so now I try and do it too.

DH doesn't understand it at all, sometimes I try and involve him in my speculative chat and he is just like...I don't know, I have no idea, why do you care, you'll never see this person again.

Maybe I should have been a detective. Or a spy.

Xiaoxiong · 13/09/2023 18:19

Also I think a lot about the kids clothes and shoes, school uniform, sizes, handmedowns, storage of the next size up, getting rid of the stuff that's outgrown, etc. DH never ever thinks about it.

Shania Twain has just had a USA tour and has a Las Vegas residency coming up, if that helps.

Some of them make things up to combat this problem. Those types usually have a bit of a sparkle in their eye while saying something outlandish.

This isn't a real thing, but I reckon I think about time travel more than the average person. I want to go back a hundred years and walk around my city. I plan routes, and idly wonder if I'll still be wearing my Skechers when I clamber out the time machine.

we do need a good time machine, and a Parelle universe machine too

Unashamed roman empire dork

I think about murders and crime a lot. Probably daily. I am weird?

Then so am I.

Colourfulponderings · 13/09/2023 20:22

How things are recycled.

TowerRaven7 · 13/09/2023 20:27

True crime and trying to learn from it so I don’t end up on a slab. Also my place of work has been broken into a few times and now weird things that don’t make sense keep happening (nothing ‘paranormal’) so I keep thinking about that too.
