It's our village fete today, never go because we work Saturday's, I started work first left in my car, DH about 30 mins later in his, leaving one on the drive, got home first to find 3 cars on my drive, one of them I know belongs to a friend, other two do not recognise.

Rang friend to ask if she knew who the others belonged to (as a bit annoyed she had not even asked if she could use my drive for her's ) to be told yes they belong to school mum friends of hers and she knew we would be at work so did not see a problem telling them to park there.

Pointed out I only just managed to get on my own drive and DH will be home shortly and will need to park on the drive as the whole village is rammed with cars, to be told they will be gone by 6pm as just about to have food and a drink, asked for at least one to be moved to park on our own drive, to be told I am unreasonable and ruining it for them.

Very tempted to block one in and refuse to move until the morning because I am shattered, had a stupuidly busy day and just want to chill in my PJ's with food and a glass off wine

* I know my neighbours will continue to use my outside water tap. I don't care. He doesn't need to ask. (we don't have water charges where i come from).*

zero inconvenience or sacrifice to you on any level . Would be very weird for you not to allow this

SamW98 · 22/08/2023 11:59

OP wasn’t away though. And had they discussed it then that’s totally different but to just park on someone’s drive without permission, refuse to move when asked and then demand the OP moves her own can when they eventually decide to come back is the absolute height of rude ignorant CF’s

freetheunicorn1 · 22/08/2023 12:00

That is a ridiculous comparison @WanderinStar. OP and her husband were unable to park their own cars on their own property without block in the so called friend and others and the village was chocka.

There is only one bad guy here and that is the person parking on private property without permission.

My neighbours don’t have a car so if I’ve got a friend over I knock and ask if they can park in their drive. They always make sure there’s enough of a gap to open garage door if neighbours need to get their bikes out.

If they ever said no then of course that’s absolutely their prerogative.

Big difference between checking something is ok and being entitled CF’s

WanderinStar · 22/08/2023 12:40

@Flipflipmania yes I can give loads. I help with the tidy towns and I often volunteer in the local youth club. What's your point?

Oh loads of us do that kind of community activity!

Not quite the same as handing over your driveway to others and you parking elsewhere 😂

AIBU to be pissed off that youths don’t thank me for deciding to volunteer at their youth club and no longer volunteer?

AIBU to be pissed off that I was given a really littered area when I was on littering duty with “tidy up” community campaign

now that is more the equivalent using your example . And surely you see rather daft. But i rather suspect - you won’t!

Things like a village fete tries to counter this but people like the op ruin the vibe.

It's not the OP who's doing that, it's the arrogant, entitled feeling former friend from another town who did that. She decided, without asking, to prevent the OP and her husband from using their own drive.

When asked, perfectly reasonably, to move their cars, the former friend was rude and dismissive, saying that the OP had ruined her night and that she couldn't come, because she was eating.

They then turned up drunk, at midnight, with their children in tow, expecting the OP to let them out, so that they could drive home drunk.

With their children in the car.

Your perspective is so twisted that you think that they were hard done by and that the OP is a joy sucker.

A coffee. That’s what you need. Maybe… decaf?

How will coffee help with my "wrath"??! It will only escalate my utter rage even more!!!
And decaf??? What is the point in that?? Either have COFFEE or DON'T

You have set me off again

Since when was it ever part of the village fete vibe that locals allow strangers to park on their property without strangers even bothering to ask?

Help ...... where on earth do I find 'See all', in order that I can catch up on a person's post, and not put an outdated answer? Someone told me to click on the bottom right of the poster's post ..... but I can't see/find anything to click on. Feeling soooo stupid, and old, and useless!! Lol

Are you using the app on a phone, an ipad, or looking on the website? I can't do "see all" on the app on my phone, it's not an option. I can on the app on my ipad and the website. As to why - I have seen others explain it but can't recall now, and not sure why this is the case!

On the app it's the funnel on the top right of the thread.

Jillybloop393 · 22/08/2023 19:07

Bookworm and Reddawg, thank you for your swift replies. I'm using my mobile, so that's probably why I can't get the See All option. I'm feeling a little less stupid (not by much!) now I know I can't actually get to do it, it not being possible from a mobile phone.
Thank you both xx

InMySpareTime · 22/08/2023 19:13

You can get the see all option on the mobile site, bottom right of the OP.

Yayyyy, thank you InMySpareTime, I've done it!! You made it so clear what to do - you're a 🌟!!

Shame you can’t tow them off when you’re hubby gets home as inconvenient as it is leaving them where ever to get tickets or clamps by the police and if they complain tell them they parked without permission and refused to move so they left you no choice!

You needed to respond to a 6 month old thread to say something that's already been said?

IngridPrice · 14/03/2024 21:25

If a neighbour gives permission for someone to use their property for someone to park on that’s their right and their business, however someone decides to leave their vehicle on your property without permission it’s trespassing and you can have it removed by calling the police assuming that it’s a stolen vehicle asking them to trace the owner and tell them to remove it immediately!! I would say that if it’s not and they don’t come immediately it’s getting crushed 🤣😂
