It doesn't matter if you don't like football, or if you don't like sport this tournament and this game is about so much more than that.

  • it's about showing women's sport is worthy of investment.
  • it's about giving different role models to young and particularly teenage girls.
  • it's about showing rivalry in performance but not through violence.
  • it's about showing our daughters they matter as much as our sons.
  • it's about showing women they can be coaches and compete with men on an equal footing.
  • it's about highlighting the battles women from many countries have undergone to get to this tournament.
  • it's about showing homophobia has no place in team sports.

And it's about giving women a voice in their sport.

The Spanish team are there in spite of their coach and have some really disturbing stories about how players have been treated. Without any eyes on women's sport these sorts of issues are allowed to take root.

Well I wasn’t going to watch it but I am now thanks to your encouragement op! All good reasons to watch!

PuttingDownRoots · 17/08/2023 07:25

I will be on a long drive but was planning on having it on the radio!

Its a shame its an awkward time but its a big time difference so inevitable.

Verymodestmouse · 17/08/2023 07:25

Definitely going to watch it! We’ll have the family round as well. Love showing my son that women’s football is just as exciting.

Toughsteak · 17/08/2023 07:25

I will be watching it! My teenage son is really into it and knows all the players from other countries as well!

Soubriquet · 17/08/2023 07:27

Nope. I hate football. Men’s or women’s. I am not interested at all

JoyDivisionOvenGlovesx · 17/08/2023 07:29

And it’s about brilliant football.

MrsJBaptiste · 17/08/2023 07:29

God no. Its going to be a gorgeous day on Sunday, why would I want to be stuck in the house watching the telly?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 17/08/2023 07:29

I expect it'll be on TV. It's football, so DP will watch it as he's done the other matches - It's not a political or social statement for him, it's a ball being kicked around for an hour and a half, so he'll watch it.

Pearl97 · 17/08/2023 07:29

Record it if you’re out. Viewing figures matter!

Simonjt · 17/08/2023 07:30

Watching it won’t make a great deal of difference to womens football, going to games will. So if someone genuinely care about womens football they’ll get themselves down to matches on a regular basis.

LaurieFairyCake · 17/08/2023 07:30

Unfortunately can't as at a Christening but will watch it later Smile

Userhay · 17/08/2023 07:31

Your arguments are excellent but I’m afraid that a) I’ll be out all day and b) I treat all football equally and ignore it. It bores me to distraction. Sorry.

This. I can think of a lot of other things I'd rather be doing with my free time than watching a sport I have zero interest in.

Againstmachine · 17/08/2023 07:33

Sorry OP you can big it up as much as you want I hate football and much of what it stands for so not going to watch it.

HollieHobbie · 17/08/2023 07:33

We'll be watching (have watched every England match so far) already planning the drinks and food. I'm looking forward to it!

CrazyFrogDingDing · 17/08/2023 07:33

No thanks, women's football is shit.

Howtohideasausage · 17/08/2023 07:34

No ta.

HorsePlatitudes · 17/08/2023 07:35

They are utter heroes and I can’t believe how far women’s football has come. My kids don’t believe me when I say we weren’t even given the chance to play at school. I hate the macho football culture esp here, and I’m sure the atmosphere at those games is brilliant.

But above all it’s great that it’s becoming so mainstream

Just waiting now for men to try and barge in and claim they new to be on the team because they identify as women.

Userhay · 17/08/2023 07:37

@CrazyFrogDingDing men’s football is shit

Er, there’s such a think as a recording facility?

Roselilly36 · 17/08/2023 07:38

We will be watching, not particularly football fans, but always watch England games. I was a little surprised to read PW won’t be there, I thought he usually went to important matches.

Dontcallmescarface · 17/08/2023 07:39

No thanks.

burnoutbabe · 17/08/2023 07:43

I do, not that I am massively into football (though prefers women's to men's)

But I am a tv household monitor so I try and watch things "for the greater good"

PeopleEatOrangesParrotsLayEggs · 17/08/2023 07:44

I'll be watching @YetiTeri, I've been enjoying the rise women's football.

I thought it was on at 10am on Sunday so thank you for posting the correct time.

LaurelGrove · 17/08/2023 07:45

I'm hosting a football brunch for DD and her friends. She (and they) would never watch a men's game but they are all very enthusiastic about female soccer. For all the reasons you list!
