It doesn't matter if you don't like football, or if you don't like sport this tournament and this game is about so much more than that.

  • it's about showing women's sport is worthy of investment.
  • it's about giving different role models to young and particularly teenage girls.
  • it's about showing rivalry in performance but not through violence.
  • it's about showing our daughters they matter as much as our sons.
  • it's about showing women they can be coaches and compete with men on an equal footing.
  • it's about highlighting the battles women from many countries have undergone to get to this tournament.
  • it's about showing homophobia has no place in team sports.

And it's about giving women a voice in their sport.

The Spanish team are there in spite of their coach and have some really disturbing stories about how players have been treated. Without any eyes on women's sport these sorts of issues are allowed to take root.

Arr the bbc (itv?) really going to be able to tell if I have my TV switched on?

Allchangename354 · 17/08/2023 07:45

May watch - generally a men’s football fan and watched a bit of the women’s game that was at work for most of the World Cup games. Not bothered enough to watch on catch up I’d say that the red card shows that as regards violent conduct on the pitch at the high levels it’s still there. Maybe not at grass roots

in terms of numbers watching it’s only the people on the viewing panel list that make a difference. I don’t have any young people to influence. I don’t see how me watching gives women a voice in sport?

BitOutOfPractice · 17/08/2023 07:47

I will be watching for all those reasons. And because I love the beautiful game.

Try telling Lauren James that…

Allchangename354 · 17/08/2023 07:49

No @CatsOnTheChair just a few thousand people are monitored

Rainbowx90 · 17/08/2023 07:49

Nah. Not at all into women's football

FoxyFeeling · 17/08/2023 07:50

It does matter if you don’t like football!
i won’t be watching

multisurface · 17/08/2023 07:50

Why would I? It's an English team, not a UK team and it's not a sport I'm interested in.

Simonjt · 17/08/2023 07:50

It seems the president of the FA isn’t bothering to go to the final.

I must admit that the Lauren James incident just confirms to me that football is a nasty game.

Too much aggression and posturing.

MansfieldLark · 17/08/2023 07:52

"it's about showing rivalry in performance but not through violence"

Yep stamping on someone isn't violent in the slightest.

yogasaurus · 17/08/2023 07:53

No thanks. Lovely BBQ outside in the sun, with no sport anywhere.

BashfulClam · 17/08/2023 07:54

No why would I watch two teams who have nothing to do with me play a game badly?

ConsistentlyPeeved · 17/08/2023 07:54

My excuse is that I don't own a TV or a license, so no watching for us!
Plus the mother in law will be here and will be needing to be entertained.

CoreopsisEverywhere · 17/08/2023 07:54

I loathe football and won’t be watching.

AlmostTotallyFake · 17/08/2023 07:55

Nope, football is shite! I don't care who plays it, I won't watch it.

YetiTeri · 17/08/2023 07:55

CrazyFrogDingDing · 17/08/2023 07:33

No thanks, women's football is shit.

Go look at Sam Kerr's goal, Ella Toone's goal, Lauren Hemp's pass and Russo's finish then come back and say women's football is shit.

Dotjones · 17/08/2023 07:57

No I won't be watching. I have barely any interest in proper football these days, let alone this. Whether you want to accept this or not, the fact is that women's football is of a significantly lower standard than men's football. I watched the "highlights" of yesterday and the skill level is so low. What really grates on me is the way the commentators fawn over "skill" and "brilliance" and so on, when if the same things happened in a men's game the commentators would be talking about "gaffes" and things would be "sloppy".

Growing the women's game is fair enough but it cannot be treated as being equal to the men's game until it actually is.

ExtraOnions · 17/08/2023 07:57

There is huge investment in football already, to the detriment of other sports. There is plenty of money in women’s football already, and it gets masses of publicity … much more than cricket, rugby ( more money for women’s RL please) and plenty of other sports.

I’ll still watch, as I live sport …. But I don’t see it as some sort of moral crusade

foolishone · 17/08/2023 07:58

I find it really weird that we need to be asked/told what to watch. Plenty will watch it, others won't.
I don't get it.

VerticalSausages · 17/08/2023 07:58

I’m on holiday in Spain. I assume it will be on the tv here, especially as the final is against Spain! Does anyone know if I would be able to get an English Channel there to watch with home English commentary?

YetiTeri · 17/08/2023 07:58

MansfieldLark · 17/08/2023 07:52

"it's about showing rivalry in performance but not through violence"

Yep stamping on someone isn't violent in the slightest.

She made a stupid mistake. She apologised, the player accepted her apology. She took her punishment without arguing.

When Beckham did the same in 1998 there was off the pitch violence and appalling response to him.

This is about doing things differently.

Got a large table booked in our local for this and going with a group.

This England team is playing some of the best football I’ve ever seen. Absolute masterclass. Just hope they can keep up that quality under the pressure of the final.

I wasn’t allowed to do football or rugby at school and I’m sure I’d be a fitter and happier adult now if I’d been able to do the sports I actually liked instead of (sorry) boring netball and hockey.

who’s your favourite player OP?

Kendodd · 17/08/2023 08:00

If the weather is good, does anyone know where I can find a list of fan zone (big public outdoor screens) I can go and watch? I can't find one online.
