"If they don't like barges they should fuck off back to France". 30p Lee Anderson of course, not the BNP. Not the National Front or whatever their current name is. The Chairman of the Conservative Party. Supporters must be so proud. What a statesman. So Churchillian.

That’s appalling. That guy is just dangerous.

TheShellBeach · 08/08/2023 15:04

Wow!

LizzieSiddal · 08/08/2023 15:06

I expect it’s a deliberate strategy from Tory HQ, they’ll be plenty of people who agree with him and whilst there will be a No 10 statement jokingly saying they don’t agree with the language used, they will be saying they agree with the sentiment.

The Tory’s really are fucking awful.

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 08/08/2023 15:06

I have driven past a few houses in the last few months with “vote conservative” signs outside

now, I can see there’s old school Tory voters out there and plenty obviously votes for them in the last election.
however,

how can you sit there and go “yeah, the past 3-5 years has been excellent, so good in fact I’m going to publicly announce my allegiance and encourage others to”

why are these people not so embarrassed by what they’ve done?

Now you've seen the proof, what are your thoughts on the matter?

This.

They are baiting all of us. A culture war is their only chance of avoiding electoral wipeout.

TooBigForMyBoots · 08/08/2023 15:11

Wow. The Conservative Party really is an embarrassment to the UK.🤦‍♀️

I'd like to see him volunteer to live for a year on the barge, if he thinks it is adequate accommodation.

Weddingpuzzle · 08/08/2023 15:16

They haven't really got anything else to campaign on have they? Even though statistically there are actually a higher number of people entering the country (legally anyway) than ever they will still dog whistle to people on this matter.

They can't exactly campaign on the economy, Brexit, the pandemic or the last 13 years can they? So they need to scrape the barrel and this 'fuck off back home' public discourse is all they have left. A culture war which will make people more divided, poorer and more individualistic...hmm sounds familiar!

I think a lot of it isn't about voting tory, it's about keeping labour out.

roarrfeckingroar · 08/08/2023 15:16

He has a point. He could have put it more gently.

They can't really campaign on anti immigration message either though. Immigration has soared and deportations have plummeted under the Tories.

It's another thing they fucked up with their incompetence and laziness.

Annasoror · 08/08/2023 15:20

He does not have a point, since it is the Tories who closed down the legal routes. France has been offering a site where applications can be processed for ages now and the Tories reject this in favour of these abhorrent policies.

Did you see newsnight last night?

they had a good go at blaming labour for it. Even though Victoria pointed out they’ve had 13 years to reverse it if it was labour

your right that “anything’s better than labour” trope is real

kahn and women’s rights do not help that case

The one you think could have been put more gently?

Breakoutbertha · 08/08/2023 15:22

I think you will find plenty of people agree with him. They just won't say it.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 08/08/2023 15:23

Justice Secretary Alex Chalk, an actual Government Minister, endorsing Anderson's comments, doubling-down, and adding a few more lies and untruths of his own in an attempt to excuse this disgrace -

We basically have the National front on power but with tons of money. It’s terrifying.
