Would 100% prefer a heatwave over this bullshit weather!

I've been thinking this for the past week but kept reminding myself of exactly how stuffy some days were last year.

However, with it being wet, windy, and only 14° at it's very hottest today I can comfortably say I'd suffer a few 30+ days just to get the nice ones in the 20s.

Left the bathroom window open a crack after showering earlier and have had to get up and close it as was getting really chilly. I'm now in bed with thick socks on and a heavy duvet. Summer my arse! Bring on the global warming IMO. 😂

Phoenix Arizona just got over suffering a month straight of temperatures of over 110F.
Do you really want a heatwave?

It’s been over 100F where I live in California.
It won’t cool down until November.

I realise we all want what we can’t have, but I’d love some seriously cool weather.
I won’t get it, though.

unfortunately the grass will not be greener on the other side....

fridaynight1 · 03/08/2023 04:03

I like the weather just as it is and my garden loves it. Last years heatwave was hell. I think here in the UK we are very lucky that extreme weather conditions are very rare.

14 in summer, its threads like this that make me happy I am in Australia and its 21 in winter!

babbscrabbs · 03/08/2023 04:10

I get it's frustrating to have so much rain and wind but YABVVVVU - at least you can sleep at night comfortably, don't have to be stressed at young or elderly or pets overheating dangerously or becoming dehydrated, people can work outside without risking their lives, and so on. The 35+ days come with no guarantee of clement 23 degree ones to accompany them.

Australia's had the warmest winter in a very long time, and it's not good news, even though quite nice for now.
BOM has its moments, but is spot on for the big picture - completely accurate about the winter, spring and summer of 22-23. With El Nino on the door stop, summer will be a scorcher.

Museya15 · 03/08/2023 04:22

I think we completely skipped summer and have gone straight into autumn. First time I've seen it this bad.

LuvMyBoyz · 03/08/2023 04:23

i much prefer this weather to a heatwave. At least we can dress up to be warm. It’s unbearable in heatwaves not to be able to get comfortable, less sleep, worrying about children and elderly relatives, not going outside because it’s just too hot. Anyway, we have to take what we get and roll with it.

PearTreeBoat · 03/08/2023 04:31

Although I now live in the Middle East where the heat and humidity in summer is relentless and I do long for a little rain I still don't miss the unpredictable and often chilly, windy, rainy summers of back home.
Was home for a couple of weeks last month and the weather was ok but definitely not "summer" weather.

Trez1510 · 03/08/2023 04:33

I used to question the sanity of my ancestors settling in Scotland. I'm now very glad they did. The current weather suits me far better than heatwaves i.e. anything over 23/24 degrees! 🙂

GoodInTheNeighborhood · 03/08/2023 04:33

US here....°104 has been our temp recently and predicted for the next several..
But it's called "summer" and we endure it every single year.
But AC is a beautiful thing and it's always appreciated 🥶

Chikoletta · 03/08/2023 04:35

I hate it too, it's bearable now but I know this winter will feel long and hard without any sun this year. Plus we'll all be vitamin D deficient.

NessieMcNessface · 03/08/2023 04:37

I’m lucky to be living in the South where the weather is pretty much fine most of the time. But for some areas of the UK it appears to have been very miserable recently, so I have sympathy and can understand you wanting some relief from it, although I don’t enjoy heatwaves personally. The endless rain and heavy cloud cover plus constant ‘moderate’ breezes can get you down I imagine, particularly in the school holidays when people are trying to occupy their children.

jeaux90 · 03/08/2023 07:00

@DreamTheMoors my sister lives in Phoenix (we are British) it's always absolutely baking there this time of year but has been very hot recently.

Honestly though, I'd take it, weather is shit here at the moment.

I just got back from Florida, eating and drinking outside it was bliss.

byvirtue · 03/08/2023 07:07

This week has felt autumnal and not in a good way, more I’m cold, my muscles are tightening and winter is coming kind of way.

I adore the feeling of the sun on my skin, feeling warm and relaxed. I’m craving it right now. I even bought some cheap cashmere on vinted last night in prep for winter coming I despise feeling cold and weighed down by layers of clothes I would live in light floaty dresses given the choice.

Come on sunshine, please!!

malificent7 · 03/08/2023 07:07

Give me the sun and heat any day. I wish I could move from this dull island.

HamSandwichKiller · 03/08/2023 07:25

I don't need a heatwave but damn I'm tired of hearing how great the rain is for the garden.
I can't sit in it, just look at the rain so it feels pointless.

x2boys · 03/08/2023 07:28

Imagine all the moaning threads if it was 30+ force few days
I mean the rain is miserable but we are not equipped for extreme heat either .

This.

User1800 · 03/08/2023 07:41

I just look out the window at my gorgeous garden and the grass has never looked better absolutely lush!

I’d love to be sitting out in it.

Having said that I couldn’t sit out in it last year with the heatwave, couldn’t even see it as curtains were closed to keep the heat out😱

NothingWrongButTheFire · 03/08/2023 07:41

YANBU

Heatwaves kill.

This kind of weather doesn't. It's not especially pleasant but it's not dangerous.

Meeting · 03/08/2023 07:42

You wouldn't say that if you lived in a caravan. My home is basically uninhabitable in 40 degree heat.

HappilyContentTheseDays · 03/08/2023 07:44

Nooo, this cool summer has been wonderful. Not keen on the constant rain but the garden/lanes love it and we need the water in our reservoirs anyway.

As pp has said, heat kills and no, we don't want a heatwave. Sadly, I think we are going to get it mid August, it'll hit 30 degrees....I hate such weather. And I've no doubt we'll get a prolonged dry Autumn too. Sadly.

I read that thinking I wish you could too

Op it’s looking good next week, here anyway

ByeByeMr · 03/08/2023 08:08

In May half term we had a beautiful holiday of sunshine all week. It felt like summer then. Now it does feel a bit weird with the sheer amount of rainy days.
