Would 100% prefer a heatwave over this bullshit weather!

I've been thinking this for the past week but kept reminding myself of exactly how stuffy some days were last year.

However, with it being wet, windy, and only 14° at it's very hottest today I can comfortably say I'd suffer a few 30+ days just to get the nice ones in the 20s.

Left the bathroom window open a crack after showering earlier and have had to get up and close it as was getting really chilly. I'm now in bed with thick socks on and a heavy duvet. Summer my arse! Bring on the global warming IMO. 😂

I would normally love the hot weather we had in June this year, but I had an exam at the end of the month so didn’t get to enjoy any of it and it was very difficult to revise in. The rain started within days of my exam and hasn’t really let up since. That’s even more frustrating. I wouldn’t mind the rain so much if I got to spend a little bit of time outside this summer without it.

OrwellianTimes · 03/08/2023 22:40

Nope. I’m not made for heat. I prefer rain.

Panda89 · 03/08/2023 22:50

Yeah this weather sucks, I’m so done with the rain and fed up of the cricket getting rained off. Need some sunshine on my skin!

saltrock123 · 03/08/2023 22:52

Swap please ! So sick of this heat and humidity. We went to U.K in June and and had lovely weather. Now home and horribly hot, bloody mozzies ants etc. Just yearning for cooler temps. Arrgh ! And we don't get rain till December !

Crikeyalmighty · 03/08/2023 23:04

Anyone who likes the weather just as it is is clearly a masochist - what's the point saying your garden loves it when you can't sit in it. !! Either that or some of the UK has been way worse than other bits- I can honestly say I am struggling to remember a 100% dry day since the end of June

YarisKaris · 03/08/2023 23:04

Is rather this than a heatwave.

meridian37 · 03/08/2023 23:08

A low 20c is good for me, I don't mind this weather

HappiDaze · 03/08/2023 23:09

I arrived in Mallorca today and it's a bit overcast so mid 20's and it's bloody lovely

Sea and pools are gorgeous and warm and it's warm enough to lie on a sun bed to dry off and enjoy the warmth and have a nap without burning and feeling uncomfortable

This is my happy temperature with somewhere to swim in

Some parts have way worse in the UK. I love the current weather in my part of Oxfordshire. There have been days of no rain with blue skies, others where the rain was overnight or came in spells during the day and yes, my garden has enjoyed it and I have been able to spend time in the garden to enjoy the summer weather.

I’ll also add that I’m heat-intolerant to the point that my skin feels like it’s burning in direct sunlight after 10 min (carry umbrella with me for shade), and can cause fainting spells due to my blood pressure plummeting just by walking in the sun due to it being on the lower-end of healthy. As someone who comes from a climate with extreme cold in the winters and extreme hot in the summers I’ll take temperate weather with rain over that in a heartbeat.

Crikeyalmighty · 03/08/2023 23:55

@phoenixrosehere it's definitely been worse than that in Bath- I struggle to remember a day over 22 degrees too. To be frank I would be fine on 20 to 25 degrees every day- I don't like mega hot weather for weeks- I would like it dry at least 4 or 5 days a week in summer and we have not had that

Swansandcustard · 04/08/2023 00:00

No thank you. I like sleeping in bed comfortably. Last year I ended up on a sunbed in the garden, my snoring, sleep apnoea and probably pink ass out there for all to enjoy.

@Threenow

Where I live (not the UK) our summers are hot and dry, and our winters frosty, and we don't get anything like the amount of rain many of you get at any time of the year.

This sounds perfect, where are you?!

Happyfluffball · 04/08/2023 02:35

I really like heatwaves. I hope we have one every year. It's like going on holiday.

Tumbleweed101 · 04/08/2023 06:53

Although it has rained a fair bit there has been less here than it says in the forecasts (east).

2012 was the worse summer I remember, it literally rained every day without let up. That was about a day after they announced a hosepipe ban for that summer.

JusthereforXmas · 04/08/2023 09:10

There has been 2 days in the last month where it hasn't rained where I live... those days where cloudy and the next fortnight is forecast as rain every day bar 1 too.

Its bloody miserable, its causing havoc with my Circadian rhythm too (I keep falling asleep early then waking at 4am) because its dark most of the day... it feels like November/December not August.

A bit of sunshine occasionally, no rain (or even just the odd light shower) and if I can push my luck on this wish say 20 degrees would be more than alright by me.

People saying we are insane for wanting things with serious health benefits because they bizarrely have choosen to live in the conditions of a woodlouse need to give their head a shake.

June was OK but we have been 1 step shy of a monsoon since.

Also we still have Mozzies too. They congregate at the end of my garden like a threatening gang of reprobates. All this water is a PERFECT breeding ground for them.

hookiewookie29 · 04/08/2023 09:20

My hot flushes are loving this weather.....
Plus,I'm a fair skinned red head and I don't tolerate the heat well.
And my garden is amazing compared to last year!
Can guarantee a heatwave as soon as the kids go back to school....

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 04/08/2023 10:01

I love it! Plenty of rain for the garden, less glaring sun & heat. So much better than last year.

Nodramabanana · 04/08/2023 10:03

YABU.

While I agree this weather sucks, a proper heatwave is awful and dangerous. At least in this weather people and animals don't die.

Plants need heat and light too. They don't need rain all the time.

The grass in my garden is green, but it has hardly grown this year, I haven't cut it for weeks.

Too much rain is just as bad as too little.

Florissante · 04/08/2023 10:18

I'd like the sun without the excessive heat.

Curiosity101 · 04/08/2023 10:18

I'm not a huge fan of the constant rain and when the wind picks up. But I hate being too hot and have to wear sunscreen all day every day when there's any sun. I hate sitting around in the sun, much prefer being busy and going out doing activities. As soon as it gets above 20C it's too warm to be active without getting all hot and sticky.

So overall I'm loving this weather. Get some waterproofs and a jumper and you're good to go.

AnkleWidget · 04/08/2023 10:21

It’s not great but it’s good for the ground, build up the water table and plants are going crazy. A dry week or so to get the wheat in would be nice though.
