Would 100% prefer a heatwave over this bullshit weather!

I've been thinking this for the past week but kept reminding myself of exactly how stuffy some days were last year.

However, with it being wet, windy, and only 14° at it's very hottest today I can comfortably say I'd suffer a few 30+ days just to get the nice ones in the 20s.

Left the bathroom window open a crack after showering earlier and have had to get up and close it as was getting really chilly. I'm now in bed with thick socks on and a heavy duvet. Summer my arse! Bring on the global warming IMO. 😂

I don't mind the cooler temps and even the rain but I would like a few more days of sunshine before the nights start drawing in!!

Also getting the washing dry is a PITA!!

bumblefeline · 03/08/2023 08:43

I don't mind it least I can sleep at night and my arsehole neighbours are inside. Definitely don't bring on global warming the results are catastrophic of that.

CloudyMcCloud · 03/08/2023 08:45

I know people say they dislike the rain but it’s going to get tough in places, I think we’ll appreciate we have it

Southwest12 · 03/08/2023 08:46

The rain is annoying as I have to work around rainshowers to walk the puppy or else we end up stuck in the kitchen while he dries off. But, we've had quite a lot of sunshine around the rain (north Liverpool) and apart from when it's rained I've not gone out in anything warmer than my normal summer cardi. Bedroom window is still wide open and heating is well and truly off.

Mid 20s isn't good either as we have to go out early and then can't go out anywhere during the day, well I can but puppy can't.

RedTedBoom · 03/08/2023 08:48

I work outside & think I have developed webbed feet.......

The tone deafness of this thread….

Wahwahwahwahwah · 03/08/2023 08:53

Everyone saying June was hottest on record - not in bloody London and SE England it wasn't. It was chilly then and it is still damp and chilly now. Worst summer I can remember

MavisChunch29 · 03/08/2023 08:54

I bloody love this weather. Pouring with rain yesterday, washed clean sunny and blue skies today, 22C, not too hot for anything and not cold either. This is partly why I live in the south east of England though and not up north, I was fed up with rubbish summers and having to put the heating on in summer.

Soubriquet · 03/08/2023 08:54

I’m loving it. I hate the heat and heatwaves make me very poorly

TheFairyCaravan · 03/08/2023 08:54

I’d just like it to be dry. I’m so bloody sick of the sound and sight of rain. It’s ruined my pots and hanging baskets because it doesn’t come down lightly, it pours with such force it’s knocked most of the flower heads off.

I actually couldn’t give two hoots that the rain is “good for the garden” it’s not good for people to be stuck indoors all the time. I feel so sorry for the children who are on their Summer holidays who should be out playing, and those families who have booked a break in the uk who are spending it piss wet through.

There’s a happy medium between this horrible weather and a heatwave so I’d quite like that, tbh.

@FirstTimeNameChanger

and how many people in the U.K. are fortunate enough to live in stone built cottages near lakes & rivers??

you don't need to wish a heatwave on everyone to enjoy some nice sunny days.

Well, I do! It's an anonymous forum, I'll never actually say this to your face, but here we go: I'm wishing for a heat wave!!!

However, before anyone gets too upset I will just add that contrary to popular belief, my wishes have absolutely no bearing on what the weather does next. It often goes the other way, as a matter of fact. So you're safe, it will probably keep raining

mauricemossmylove · 03/08/2023 08:57

I'm completely disabled by heat, to the extent I can only lie next to a fan and I feel genuinely panicky about having to do anything like work, drive kids around, attend hospital appointments etc, so no, I don't wish we had a heat wave and I'm really grateful we've swerved one this year.

No it wasn't, it was boiling, 28C in June in Kent, we sat outside loads and ate in the garden and it was still lovely in mid July when we sat outside on DD1's birthday. I remarked upon it at the time as we'd had two weeks of hot weather after average or higher rainfall than usual and the fucking useless South East Water announced a hose pipe ban.

And I've not had to water the garden since as there has been rain every few days - brilliant AFAIC.

ichundich · 03/08/2023 09:00

Where was it 14 yesterday - northern Scotland? In Norfolk it rained a bit in the morning but then it got to 24 and the beaches were packed. The rest of the week is looking similar. It's a typical British summer, and at least we won't have to worry about wildfires, dying crops or thirsty wildlife this year.

Yusay · 03/08/2023 09:00

YABU. I’ve just been on ‘holiday’ to a heatwave country and it was hideous, everytime we stepped outside we felt dizzy/sweaty/exhausted from the heat. In 35 degrees plus you just can’t do anything, not got for a walk, not sit outside without getting a headache. You can swim in the sea but you’ll get a headache from the sun. And that’s without wildfires etc.

Drizzle sucks but it is better than a heatwave. As soon as I came back I went for a walk in the rain and it felt so amazing to be walking around outside!

RedPony1 · 03/08/2023 09:01

i don't want a heatwave but something in between would be nice!

Got soaked and blown away at the weekend camping at a festival 😂

In the north - so possibly a few hundred miles from what she calls "sweltering"

So - please have a horrible and dangerous time elsewhere in the country because I'm all right

In Scotland. It's a lovely morning here-blue skies and weak sunshine. It's to be dry and sunny tomorrow too. We need to make the most of every nice day or well end up making ourselves depressed. We can't change the weather!
The UK is still an amazing place to stay despite the weather. I have family in Los Angeles and they have nasty hot weather all summer. I'd hate that! I'd never get anything done due to the heat-it's like wading through hot treacle all day.

Same. Parents and relatives all over the States have been dealing with 32+ degrees and some in the 40s and it can be for days or even weeks. Air conditioning helps tremendously as well as lots of tree cover when you’re out., Still not great and there are always several deaths, hospitalisations, higher food costs (dead crops don’t grow food), gets costly having to run air conditioning all day to stay cool, and a higher potential for fires and wildfires in some areas.

Fine to want warmer weather and a bit more sun but for a heatwave is ridiculous. It wasn’t that long ago when there was one that lasted long enough where the grass was completely yellow everywhere and looked as if all it would take was a single match to cause a massive fire.

Yes it was really nice, I’m not getting the other post

skgnome · 03/08/2023 09:06

No, no, no
we did had lovely weather in May and June
just came back from Greece, temperatures close to 40, saw people passed out in Red Cross tents - even small kids
saw ambulances going to pick up not so elderly people - because of the heat
wild fires - did you saw on the news people having to sleep in gym halls with no air con since they had to leave where they were staying because of the fires
were lucky the heatwave did not came here
yes its meh, rainy all day, but you can cover for it and let the kids run around and jump in puddles
my back garden is green and full of live
don’t wish for it

What are you on about? I'm in the SE just outside London and June was stunning and gloriously hot!

WeaselCheeks · 03/08/2023 09:10

I find the current weather genuinely depressing - my mental health is at an all-time low. I kind of survive winter by gritting my teeth and accepting it'll be awful, but at least there's Christmas to cheer us up.

But I live for summer - ideally 18-25 degrees, blue skies and only occasional rain. This relentless grey wetness is killing me. Going out riding or walking is miserable. I've come to the conclusion that I'm solar powered.

Amethystanddiamonds · 03/08/2023 09:17

I would love a heatwave but I suppose it depends on the definition of heatwave really. Here, I believe, it's officially a heat wave if we get 3 days at 25C or above. At 25C unless I'm out in direct sunlight I would need a cardigan or jacket. I had my winter coat out and lit the fire last night because I was too cold. A heatwave in the north west of England is a very different proposition to the south east. Let alone the heatwaves in the Med!

SpainToday · 03/08/2023 09:20

I would love a heatwave, just so long as it doesn't cause fires. I was on a Greek island a few weeks ago, in very intense heat - far better than being cold and damp.

LegendsBeyond · 03/08/2023 09:23

We had an amazing June, when we were in the garden every day. Also had a lovely sunny week in Cornwall in May half term. It hasn’t actually been that bad.
