Would 100% prefer a heatwave over this bullshit weather!

I've been thinking this for the past week but kept reminding myself of exactly how stuffy some days were last year.

However, with it being wet, windy, and only 14° at it's very hottest today I can comfortably say I'd suffer a few 30+ days just to get the nice ones in the 20s.

Left the bathroom window open a crack after showering earlier and have had to get up and close it as was getting really chilly. I'm now in bed with thick socks on and a heavy duvet. Summer my arse! Bring on the global warming IMO. 😂

Oh god no. I don't like the heat. (Tho I appreciate some do).

BogRollBOGOF · 03/08/2023 08:09

20s, dry, bright will tick my boxes.

Fortunately my part of the country's not had so many days in the mid-teens, it's been more 18-19⁰C, and while it's rained most days, most of them have brightened or at least dried at some point. There have been a few washouts. It seems have been better than some other parts of the country.

It's not my favourite, and I'd like some more summer before plunging into at least 6 months of cold and gloomy autwintpring, but I keep reminding myself that at least it's not 40⁰C. Last year, it triggered DS's asthma and it was then a struggle to leave the house for the next 2 months unless it was 22⁰C and dry like the house. Any temperature/ humidity difference triggered another asthma attack which made things like going into shops impossible.

We're getting outside more this year!

VikingVolva · 03/08/2023 08:13

I'd like sunnier weather, and temperatures reliably mid-20s or so.

But a heatwave? Hell no

Major fires across UK - even in London - last summer. How can anyone want that? A heatwave isn't nice weather. It's extreme.

Eyeapple · 03/08/2023 08:13

There is a waterfall relatively near me that is pretty much a dribble all year around this year it looks like the Niagara falls from the rainfall. It has been the wettest July on record here pretty rubbish. I can’t wait to go on holidays next week.

thecatsthecats · 03/08/2023 08:15

Nah, I'm seven months pregnant, and to be honest, one of the first things I did in finding out was do my sums and work out how pregnant I'd be over summer.

This weather feels like a massive reprieve. Had to strip off yesterday at any rate.

Yes that would be my ideal.too pleasant weather to be able to do stuff outside sit in the garden etc but not a heatwave .

Twyford · 03/08/2023 08:18

I hate days and days of heatwave, and I particularly hated it last year. Loving this summer, I can actually function normally.

slowsundays · 03/08/2023 08:19

Heatwaves are incredibly uncomfortable, draining, destructive, and deadly.

I'd quite like a mid twenties day with bright sunshine but a heatwave is ridiculous.

Flickersy · 03/08/2023 08:20

As someone from a farming family who lost an awful lot of crops to the heatwave last year, no thank you. I know of others who lost a fair number of animals. This year isn't great as certain things will need drying but it's a damn sight better than fields of dead crops.

I don't want to see people's livelihoods decimated and our food chain suffer just because some people have already forgotten we had the warmest June on record just about a month ago.

Twyford · 03/08/2023 08:21

Chikoletta · 03/08/2023 04:35

I hate it too, it's bearable now but I know this winter will feel long and hard without any sun this year. Plus we'll all be vitamin D deficient.

There's no reason to be Vitamin D deficient. There's more than enough sunlight to avoid that.

LittleMonks11 · 03/08/2023 08:21

Not a heatwave (we all know climate change is real and devastating) but some bloody sunshine and not feeling like it's October would do me.

3WildOnes · 03/08/2023 08:23

I really enjoyed last summer. I love the heat!

What do you mean "no sun this year"? That's complete bollocks.

June was the warmest on record.

How have people forgotten this already?

FirstTimeNameChanger · 03/08/2023 08:25

I am with you OP! Everyone here seems to love damp, grey coolness (which is handy as we get so much of it) but I am desperate for sun and heat. And while some of you suffer in heatwaves, can we stop saying "we're not set up for heat waves in this country". It's not true!

I live in a tiny stone built cottage. My little cave is gloriously cool in a heat wave, plus I have lots of trees in the garden for shade, plus I have rivers and waterfalls a few minutes walk away, plus I live up north so when London is sweltering I am just mildly warm. I am so set up for a heat wave!!!! I'm off work, kids are off school, we want to be outside with minimal clothes on enjoying life not layered up walking in the rain (again) or checking to see when soft play opens (again). Bring on the heat wave, I am so ready for it 😭

Cantbelieveit101 · 03/08/2023 04:09

14 in summer, its threads like this that make me happy I am in Australia and its 21 in winter!

@Cantbelieveit101

it was 25° here yesterday (SE England). It's 8.22 and a sunny morning. It's only 16° but it feels lovely & set to be 25° again. It's definitely lively to be outside. I love 35° on holiday, but I can't get anything done in that here.

its patchy around the country re rain/sun/heat.

I'd rather be here than Aus, so I guess it all evens out 😂

DustyLee123 · 03/08/2023 08:27

No heatwave thank you. I’m happy with this, at least I can sleep at night.

Chlobo89 · 03/08/2023 08:27

I love this weather, could just do with it getting a bit colder it’s still a little bit too warm for my liking.

StarchySturgess1 · 03/08/2023 08:29

You probably need to be careful what you wish for.

@FirstTimeNameChanger

and how many people in the U.K. are fortunate enough to live in stone built cottages near lakes & rivers??

you don't need to wish a heatwave on everyone to enjoy some nice sunny days.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 03/08/2023 08:30

I'm with you. It's bloody ridiculous I'm sat wearing a jumper in august!!!! We had a cold spring, 2 weeks of summer weather in June and then back to cold again!

pharmachameleon · 03/08/2023 08:32

In Scotland. It's a lovely morning here-blue skies and weak sunshine. It's to be dry and sunny tomorrow too. We need to make the most of every nice day or well end up making ourselves depressed. We can't change the weather!
The UK is still an amazing place to stay despite the weather. I have family in Los Angeles and they have nasty hot weather all summer. I'd hate that! I'd never get anything done due to the heat-it's like wading through hot treacle all day.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 03/08/2023 08:34

I love warmer weather and hate this cold, miserable summer, so I can relate to you there. However, you won't catch me even joking about "bringing on" global warming. Climate change is real, and real people are suffering as a result of it. Personally, I'd rather put up with a shit summer than have people round the world losing their homes, their livelihoods and even their lives.

I know it was just a flippant comment, but honestly, I think we're beyond the point of joking about climate change. We will all feel the effects of it in time.

Knackeredhamster · 03/08/2023 08:35

Plus how are we meant to mow these bloody lawns. Praying for a slightly dry day please so I can get out there and now the jungle.

sooverthisshit · 03/08/2023 08:35

At least we’d get washing dry outside!

Siameasy · 03/08/2023 08:37

Currently it’s bright and sunny here in the SE but most days it’s turned to thick cloud cover and winds pretty quickly. Yesterday was pants. We made it to the park for an hour then it was biting winds and that awful fine rain ffs
