To think Just Stop Oil are showing up serious security breaches?

Maybe I'm missing something, because I dont understand what JSO are doing apart from turning everyone against their cause apart from looking idiotic with their slow walking.

But watching the coverage of them at Wimbledon, the snooker, the rugby and the Chelsea Flower show, what is to stop them (or anyone else) doing far more damage?

Given they dont mind blocking ambulances whilst people die, it's not out of possibility that they might do something far more serious. Where is tbe security?

But what’s to stop anyone doing anything?

There’s always a risk that someone in a group at an event could have the means to cause serious injury or even fatalities to others.

The only way to completely avoid this is to not allow spectators/audiences/people to gather and that’s not what life is about.

True, ans I suppose searches are ambitious for something that size,.but I think it's insane that they're managing to do that much commotion before anyone reacts.

But it's not like they're getting weapons into these places. Mainly they're just jumping a barrier. Apart from massive fences, or loads of guards, how do you stop that.

What they are doing is working as people are talking about them. They are headline news every time they do something

grayhairdontcare · 18/07/2023 20:05

They are a bunch of attention seeking idiots

NotBotheredAnymore · 18/07/2023 20:13

I agree with you OP. They are on a par with old fashioned streakers who managed to get past fences and security to run over cricket pitches in the 70s etc but you always saw the police, security or stewards chasing them and stopping them. Now they seem to join the onlookers instead of doing their jobs. Frankly I find it infuriating...then I read about them protesting at a car showroom in Germany I think, and the employees turned off the lights, locked them in and went home. That was funny.

Davros · 18/07/2023 20:16

Jonny Bairstow sorted them out

All "soft" targets where there is a free or a fee payable for admission to an event in front of a (tv news) camera.

Even if they opted for serious criminal or actual terror activity there is little that can be done on a policeing level to stop them unless the group was classifed as domestic terroists.

Only political reasons stop most terror groups from going after civilian /soft targets.

😁This.

It is quite scary.

StripyHorse · 18/07/2023 20:22

They do let emergency services through. What they are doing is trying to publicise the fact we are screwing up the environment and it really insightful

This interview with Chris Packham is worth a watch.

They do let emergency services through.

Stopping traffic blocks the ES into stopped traffic.
Plus it blocks public transport which unlike a car /taxi are locked into a fixed route.

What they are doing is trying to publicise the fact we are screwing up the environment and it really insightful
Is that by carrying out acts of vandlism in the hope of being recorded on bad for the environment mobile phones and having that watched on bad for the environment phones?

Duvetdweller · 18/07/2023 20:40

Regardless of anything else you’ve got to admire their ability to get tickets! I might join them so I can see Taylor Swift 🤔

Clutchy · 18/07/2023 21:05

They’re so brave disrupting the snooker. I want to see them stop a UFC match. Now that would bring a lot of publicity.

LlynTegid · 18/07/2023 21:07

I don't think they are, the analogy with streakers in the 70s is a good one.

They are targeting places for publicity where most of the people have gone there by public transport.

spidermonkeys · 18/07/2023 21:19

They are absolute fucking morons. Turning many people against their cause.

The increasing anger against them blocking roads in particular is so dangerous. I don't think it will be long until one of them are killed by a driver in frustration.

Appreciate I haven't answered your question in any way, but I find them infuriating.

Ultimately how ? Are people going to drive more miles, eat another cow just because it might piss off JSO ?

We live in interesting times. As the proverb goes.

This.
At least someone cares about the planet because the majority sadly do not.

This interview with Chris Packham is worth a watch.

There are literal videos of them stopping ambulances and cars with children going to appointments.
There is an equally insightful video where they talk about someone not making it to hospital as collateral.
Chris is ND and I think a shocking target for them.

What have they publicised though? I'm yet to find anyone impressed by them.

The slow walking infuriates me in a way I canr explain.

I saw a video yesterday where the car driver ran over an idiots foot.

Wimbledon?
You think most people travel to Wimbledon by public transport?

I completely agree with you OP and have been thinking the same myself - it really worries me how they seem to be getting everywhere this summer, if they can get onto the court at Wimbledon etc it does make you wonder who else could…
