To think Just Stop Oil are showing up serious security breaches?

Maybe I'm missing something, because I dont understand what JSO are doing apart from turning everyone against their cause apart from looking idiotic with their slow walking.

But watching the coverage of them at Wimbledon, the snooker, the rugby and the Chelsea Flower show, what is to stop them (or anyone else) doing far more damage?

Given they dont mind blocking ambulances whilst people die, it's not out of possibility that they might do something far more serious. Where is tbe security?

There’s lots of videos on tiktok of them letting emergency services through. I’ve also been walking past when they’ve done this. I saw a video of a very polite man asking the protestors to let him through as his wife was in the car in labour, they said ‘of course’ and moved.

It’s the thugs that are punching, kicking and dragging the protestors that are frightening.

Those would be the ES which make it to the top of the traffic jam?

What you are failing to understand is that the "thugs" are the mainly ordinary working for an hourly wage citizen, who JSO should be trying to get onboard. If they are failing to such a level that Ordinary Jane and Joe are willing to use physical force they really need to find another way to protest.

Just stop oil...then what

How many are willing to only eat whatever is grown with walking distance of their home?
Use no plastic to transport or store this food.
Work within walking distance?
Shut off mains water and go back to pumping water by hand?
Stop using their bathrooms and swap back to a soilcart collect chamber pots and a bath once a week?
Wear wool or linen clothing?

The slogan is one of the dumbest ones to date.

tonystarksrighthand · 19/07/2023 16:28

Serious question thou, in thousands of years the earth will turn to helium anyway. So what exactly are they trying to save?

Not all vegans support them. Whilst I care about the climate crisis I definitely do not support their methods.

OutnumberedByDogs · 19/07/2023 16:34

No they aren't. Would you just sit there like a good girl then? Wringing your hands?

Are you saying that you would assault the protestors?

AnSolas · 19/07/2023 16:37

IfItAintBrokeBreakIt · 19/07/2023 16:08

They're not thugs, they're ordinary people trying to go about their business, hampered by morons in orange vests.

They’re thugs. Ordinary people aren’t violent.

Ha ha ha ha ha....

You have been raises in a safe community which has enough to eat, housing etc so you have no need to be violent.

ForeverFriendsAndPierrot · 19/07/2023 16:38

@OutnumberedByDogs no, where?

NotBotheredAnymore · 19/07/2023 16:39

YetiTeri · 19/07/2023 16:20

Don't forget Silverstone. I hadn't realised the helicopters were all public transport.

I'm quite tempted to start a pressure group called Just Stop Private Aircraft.

I'll join your group if you add private yachts.

ForeverFriendsAndPierrot · 19/07/2023 16:39

@IfItAintBrokeBreakIt ahhh you just sat patiently, quite happy were you?

Sigmama · 19/07/2023 16:42

Forever, what do you do in 'normal traffic jams?

Charming. They're not loonies though are they. Have you seen the news, Europe is burning away over there.

Easier to sit on your arse and call people loonies though, I know I get it, that meat just tastes too good doesn't it.

LittleApartmentOnThePrairie · 19/07/2023 16:52

I am starting to think that JSO are the only sane people in this country.

The world is now, quite literally, on fire. We are heading for (already getting) lethal extreme weather events, higher rates of disease and death, more unpredictable weather, food shortages, drought, mass migration. Next on the list is conflict and war.

The extreme weather in Europe will cause crop failures and food shortages. It might be ok this year. Maybe next too. But…This will get worse. We will struggle to feed ourselves. Morality is a higher order human need. When we are starving we will fight each other.

We are rapidly heading towards a living hell, leading to extinction. And our governments know. Their own advisors say they are not doing enough. The science (based on decades of global research, using multiple models), is unequivocal - that we are causing the planet to heat up more than would happen naturally. The science is clear. We need need to just stop oil. We can lessen the worst of it.

If we are heading for a living hell, and over 30 years of science and campaigning is not being listened to by those in power. If everything else has been tried. What else is there to do but civil disobedience?

The people that say ‘fuck it, I know the situation we are in, I know what’s coming, I know what I can do…but I don’t care about it. I’m going to keep consuming whatever I like, I’m not going to vote or I’m going to vote selfishly’ are the people that we should be angry with.

Here is what we can do…

9 things you can do about climate change

With so many experts on climate change here at Imperial, many people ask us what they personally can do about it?

OutnumberedByDogs · 19/07/2023 16:57

@ForeverFriendsAndPierrot

I’m asking. When the pp said they wouldn’t be violent, you said, “Would you just sit there like a good girl then? Wringing your hands?”. So I’m presuming you would be a “bad girl?” 😬

I’m asking what you would do? You seemed to be sneering at a poster saying she wouldn’t be violent.

IfItAintBrokeBreakIt · 19/07/2023 17:03

Ha ha ha ha ha....

You have been raises in a safe community which has enough to eat, housing etc so you have no need to be violent.

Actually, I was raised or rather dragged up by horrible parents on a well known rough council estate. We were poor and I was abused by my father. Those are no longer my circumstances but I’ve never been violent to anyone in my life. I dare say my father would have beat the shit out of a protestor in his way.

IfItAintBrokeBreakIt · 19/07/2023 17:06

ahhh you just sat patiently, quite happy were you?

I wouldn’t say happy, I missed an important appointment. I definitely didn’t feel like dragging them across the road or kicking them. I’m not a violent person.

OneTC · 19/07/2023 17:08

Security is at least partly reliant on people not testing it, especially at large scale events where the logistics of checking people thoroughly isn't possible.

People that wish harm to the wider public know that already though

Nanny0gg · 19/07/2023 18:01

Sigmama · 19/07/2023 16:17

If someone slow walking infuriates you, you have anger issues

If you are trying to get somewhere and someone or something impedes your travel it's not out of the realms of possibility that you will be VERY pissed off about it.

And if it's some clown deliberately slowing you down then 'infuriates' is pretty accurate

And how many practice what they preach?

NotBotheredAnymore · 19/07/2023 18:19

And how many practice what they preach?

Depends if they follow Just Insulate's leader. Personally I think they are ALL hypocrites to varying degree.

Norton was asked why he doesn’t insulate his home.
He replied: “Because I’m a hypocrite."
Foufas pressed him further, adding: "Do you understand why people will think, well, this guy doesn’t care about insulation, he only cares about causing disruption and trying to make a name for himself?"
"Yeah, they’re right," Norton said.
"I don’t particularly care about insulation."
His admission will no doubt infuriate the thousands of Londoners who have been delayed on the roads due to action taken by the group.

Sigmama · 19/07/2023 18:28

Nannyogg, you mean like train strikes for example? no that does not make me very angry, as for traffic jams, I do not see any difference between road work, accidents or protesters

Sigmama · 19/07/2023 18:34

Notbotheredanymore, and yet 'thousands of londoners' manage to go about their business without being affected by these protesters, as thousands of londoners don't drive - they walk, cycle or take public transport

DdraigGoch · 19/07/2023 18:35

kannnet96 · 18/07/2023 20:00

What they are doing is working as people are talking about them. They are headline news every time they do something

There were headlines about Erika Roe. And they have achieved no more than she did.

BillaBongGirl · 19/07/2023 18:44

SerendipityJane · 18/07/2023 21:23

They are absolute fucking morons. Turning many people against their cause.

Ultimately how ? Are people going to drive more miles, eat another cow just because it might piss off JSO ?

We live in interesting times. As the proverb goes.

Everyone stuck behind them in traffic is running their car/bus/lorry engine that much longer….their protests CAUSE more environmental damage.

BillaBongGirl · 19/07/2023 18:47

Papernotplastic · 19/07/2023 15:25

I don’t understand why they aren’t immediately arrested and removed.

Many of them are quite privileged and posh. Remember one XR women that was arrested and then quickly let go was the wife of a MET police director.

BLM protesters were treated very differently.

OMG. No. That science does NOT say “just stop oil”.

We need oil to make fertiliser, so we can grow those crops you are so worried about.

We need oil to manufacture lubricants for the electric tractors and lorries to both harvest and transport the crops, and for the factories that package and preserve these crops into foods for consumption.

In fact, the fire fighters need oil to keep their fire engines and helicopters transporting smoke jumpers working, they also need oil to make the fire proof clothing, shelters and face masks.

JSO are a bunch of looney toons. They have been brainwashed into thinking all oil is used as fuel that is burned, and is the only thing creating CO2 emissions.

midgetastic · 19/07/2023 18:56

The group wants to prevent new fossil fuel sources being exploited

They are Not saying we should stop operating existing fields

So they are not saying stop oiling your tractor now

But the are saying we need to move away from that and it will happen faster if we stop adding to the problem- start easing ourselves off fossil fuels
