To think Just Stop Oil are showing up serious security breaches?

Maybe I'm missing something, because I dont understand what JSO are doing apart from turning everyone against their cause apart from looking idiotic with their slow walking.

But watching the coverage of them at Wimbledon, the snooker, the rugby and the Chelsea Flower show, what is to stop them (or anyone else) doing far more damage?

Given they dont mind blocking ambulances whilst people die, it's not out of possibility that they might do something far more serious. Where is tbe security?

I know a whole group of JSO and XR protesters and the fallacy about not letting ambulances get through is a total lie. They stop traffic, leave the road for ES, walk to the next traffic crossing then block again before they usually get arrested. Not a lot of ESVs stopping to be on video saying thanks for letting us through!

How does it work if the ambulance is stuck in the tailbacks half a mile away?

Sigmama · 19/07/2023 19:58

Same way they deal with any traffic jam? I mean traffic has been getting steadily worse for years

Notbotheredanymore, and yet 'thousands of londoners' manage to go about their business without being affected by these protesters, as thousands of londoners don't drive - they walk, cycle or take public transport

Ahhh yes. Only Londoners are affected or not by these twats. Of course🙄

Are you for real, or just pretending to be dumb?

Ha ha ha ha ha....

You have been raises in a safe community which has enough to eat, housing etc so you have no need to be violent.

Actually, I was raised or rather dragged up by horrible parents on a well known rough council estate. We were poor and I was abused by my father. Those are no longer my circumstances but I’ve never been violent to anyone in my life. I dare say my father would have beat the shit out of a protestor in his way.

So you lucked out it the father department he was an ordinary person and a thug.

The group wants to prevent new fossil fuel sources being exploited

They are Not saying we should stop operating existing fields

So they are not saying stop oiling your tractor now

But the are saying we need to move away from that and it will happen faster if we stop adding to the problem- start easing ourselves off fossil fuels

What is the replacement for
Oil based transport?
-Cargo ships
-Cargo flights
-Trucks
-farming equipment
-Personal transport
Mining ore?
Smelting?
Data warehouse hubs?

Icebluesea · 19/07/2023 21:53

I don’t agree with what jso are doing but the video of that man being punched and kicked by the boyfriend of the pregnant chick made me feel sick. Violence like that is never acceptable.

I hope the thug gets a criminal record which will ruin his chances for employment and a decent living they face a huge repair bill on the Mercedes .haha paying that during a cost of living crisis is going to hurt

calmcoco · 19/07/2023 21:58

WildUnchartedWaters · 18/07/2023 21:46

Because where as most people might have listened at least politely, the majority of people detest them.

@AnSolas they are terrorists.

Confused terrorists cause terror.
JSO are non-violent protestors.

I think the fact they keep appearing everywhere and causing minimal but visible disruption is raising the profile of the issue.

Sigmama · 19/07/2023 22:15

Notbotheredanymore, eh? I was merely quoting your words back to you - How does that make me dumb?

NotBotheredAnymore · 19/07/2023 22:47

Because these protesters don't just affect Londoners. The slow walk protests sure, but blockading refineries and damaging priceless works of art, and stopping televised events etc affect us all, especially those in close contact. And the majority of the protesters are hypocrites as we see it time and again.

Ok, so I need to tell you that existing oil fields are not bottomless fields of everlasting oil. I’m sure you thought they were limitless and can never run out, so that there is never ever a need to go and open a new oil well. But sadly, that’s not how it works. If we do not drill other deposits, we will run out.

So, yes they are saying “just stop oil” as in all new oil and gas. As in no more oil or gas for anything at all.

ALL transport is oil based due to the need for lubricants. Even a bicycle. How else do they oil their chains and gears? What us white grease made from that is used on pedals, seat posts handle bars if not oil?

All our wind turbines generating electricity depend on millions of barrels of oil to keep spinning.

Until someone dies because their ambulance or fire engine doesnt get through, of course. I'd say that raises terror. People can say that's a fallacy but there is video evidence of it happening.

No they aren't. Would you just sit there like a good girl then? Wringing your hands?

Are you saying that you would assault the protestors?

Are you saying you wouldnt if your loved one was in the back of an ambulance?

If anyone tried to smuggle weapons or bombs into Wimbledon or any other major sporting event, they’d most likely be caught by airport style security measures.

But they're taking in confetti bombs and paint. What does anyone think they're going to do with that?
So are they all being searched?

There’s lots of videos on tiktok of them letting emergency services through. I’ve also been walking past when they’ve done this. I saw a video of a very polite man asking the protestors to let him through as his wife was in the car in labour, they said ‘of course’ and moved.

It’s the thugs that are punching, kicking and dragging the protestors that are frightening.

This is just nonsense.

Why are they thugs?

Ordinary people incensed by morons as I said

If you want to justify violence, that’s up to you. They’re thugs that enjoy a fight.

Yet the folk slow walking and the likes of the woman dragged off in orange paint claiming she was just there are....?

You cant go wide eyed and pretend you didnt understand your actions would.cause conflict.

@LakeTiticaca , you're bang on.

I don’t think the protester was the idiot in that incident.

So what was the driver supposed to do?stop until they felt like getting off the road?

What it they needed to get to the many valid reasons someone needs to drive?

Charming. They're not loonies though are they. Have you seen the news, Europe is burning away over there.

Easier to sit on your arse and call people loonies though, I know I get it, that meat just tastes too good doesn't it.

But what are jso doing to help the cause?

LittleApartmentOnThePrairie · 19/07/2023 16:52

I am starting to think that JSO are the only sane people in this country.

The world is now, quite literally, on fire. We are heading for (already getting) lethal extreme weather events, higher rates of disease and death, more unpredictable weather, food shortages, drought, mass migration. Next on the list is conflict and war.

The extreme weather in Europe will cause crop failures and food shortages. It might be ok this year. Maybe next too. But…This will get worse. We will struggle to feed ourselves. Morality is a higher order human need. When we are starving we will fight each other.

We are rapidly heading towards a living hell, leading to extinction. And our governments know. Their own advisors say they are not doing enough. The science (based on decades of global research, using multiple models), is unequivocal - that we are causing the planet to heat up more than would happen naturally. The science is clear. We need need to just stop oil. We can lessen the worst of it.

If we are heading for a living hell, and over 30 years of science and campaigning is not being listened to by those in power. If everything else has been tried. What else is there to do but civil disobedience?

The people that say ‘fuck it, I know the situation we are in, I know what’s coming, I know what I can do…but I don’t care about it. I’m going to keep consuming whatever I like, I’m not going to vote or I’m going to vote selfishly’ are the people that we should be angry with.

Here is what we can do…

https://www.imperial.ac.uk/stories/climate-action/amp-index.html

Right...but what are they doing to bring us to the cause? In fact, what are any of them doing? How do you know they're doing any of those things?

@Sigmama no. the slow walking and disrupting things while being "calm" to push others is narcissistic behaviour.

Unfortunately, and this is a point for you too @calmcoco - I don't actually know what they're asking for, or their cause, as does pretty much no-one I know, cause they are just looking like a bunch of idiots to most people.

OP posts:
WildUnchartedWaters · 20/07/2023 00:56

So for the likes of wimbledon and CFS, I appreciate its attended by well off people. But why should they not be allowed to enjoy an event, and ruin it? I genuinely don't understand. If someone could explain what they are trying to do (talking about them isn't one, as it's pretty much all negative) I'd appreciate it.

There are enough traffic jams without people generating more of them.

Sigmama · 20/07/2023 07:13

Traffic jams are generally caused by too many people driving, that was happening before jso, maybe we need to change the car culture

Sigmama · 20/07/2023 07:15

Wilduncharterd, isn't a narcissist someone who puts their needs first? Something plenty of car drivers do
